Borderless Gaming’s developer says its DLSS 5 neural-rendering effect can run through the app’s BGFX pipeline on a wider range of GPUs, including hardware beyond NVIDIA’s official DLSS 5 implementation. That does not mean NVIDIA’s native, game-integrated DLSS 5 works on AMD or Intel cards: this is a separate effect, and the available announcements do not establish compatibility for specific non-NVIDIA models or provide independent cross-GPU benchmarks.
What Borderless Gaming says it has added
In a September 29, 2026 Steam announcement, Borderless Gaming developer Andrew said the app can run a DLSS 5 Neural Rendering model directly through its BGFX pipeline, rather than forwarding requests to NVIDIA’s DLLs. The developer also said the effect does not replace game DLLs, modify game files, or require a game-specific mod.
That description refers to Borderless Gaming’s own route for running the effect. It is not evidence that a game has received NVIDIA’s native DLSS 5 integration, nor does it establish that the effect works on every GPU. Borderless Gaming says model quantization and bottleneck removal let it target a wider range of GPUs, but the announcement does not name tested AMD or Intel models.
How this differs from NVIDIA DLSS 5
NVIDIA’s September 22, 2026 technical description presents DLSS 5 as 3D-guided neural rendering that uses a game-engine frame and data such as motion vectors to generate lighting and material detail. NVIDIA says its implementation runs locally on a single GeForce RTX 50 Series GPU at up to 4K. Those statements describe NVIDIA’s technology, not the hardware requirements or output quality of Borderless Gaming’s BGFX effect.

The key distinction is implementation: NVIDIA describes a game-integrated feature using engine data, while Borderless Gaming says its model runs through BGFX without relying on NVIDIA’s DLLs. The shared DLSS 5 name should not be read as proof that the two paths are identical, endorsed by NVIDIA, or interchangeable.
DLSS 5-style rendering and BGFG are separate features
Borderless Gaming’s BGFG is its own general-purpose frame generator, announced on September 22, 2026. The developer describes it as usable with games, anime, and live-action content, and says it was trained on tens of thousands of hours of gameplay. Those are developer claims, not independently verified performance or quality findings.

The DLSS 5 neural-rendering effect and BGFG therefore answer different questions: one is the separately downloadable rendering effect described above; the other is Borderless Gaming’s frame-generation feature. A claim about one should not be treated as a compatibility or performance result for the other.
What the performance claims do—and do not—show
Borderless Gaming’s developer gave an example of “around 30 FPS” on an RTX 3090, explicitly dependent on the game and settings. That is a developer-provided example, not a general performance guarantee, a non-NVIDIA result, or a controlled comparison with NVIDIA’s native DLSS 5. The reviewed announcements do not publish controlled tests across AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA GPUs.

Before relying on the effect for a particular setup, check whether your exact GPU, game, graphics API, driver, and effect version work together. Treat “wider range of GPUs” as the developer’s compatibility claim, not confirmation for a particular card.
How to try the effect
- Install Borderless Gaming from its Steam listing. The utility is paid software; its listing also describes borderless fullscreen, BGFX visual effects and upscaling, and BGProxy compatibility features.
- Separately download the DLSS5-NR effect. TechRadar’s October 1, 2026 report says it is not bundled and active by default.
- Use Borderless Gaming’s BGFX pipeline to run the effect, then check behavior in the game and configuration you intend to use. The cited announcements do not establish a universal setup path or compatibility list.
What to check when evaluating results
A useful comparison needs to separate source frames from generated frames and keep the conditions consistent. Record the GPU and API, game, resolution, graphics settings, driver, and Borderless Gaming and effect versions. Compare image artifacts, ghosting, UI smearing, frame pacing, and latency as well as the displayed frame rate. Identify whether the test is for BGFG or the DLSS 5 neural-rendering effect; they are different features.
