CVE-2026-73570 puts a Zimbra server at risk only when it runs a version earlier than 10.1.20, has the optional zimbra-snmp package installed, and has SNMP notifications enabled. Microsoft reports that attackers have exploited the flaw in active attacks. Upgrade to Zimbra Collaboration 10.1.20 or later; if you find evidence of a compromise, treat the server as an incident, not merely a patching task.
What the Zimbra flaw does
CVE-2026-73570 is an unauthenticated operating-system command-injection vulnerability in Zimbra Collaboration Suite’s SNMP notification processing. Microsoft Threat Intelligence describes specially crafted SMTP requests reaching the SNMP notification path. When a service-state change triggers health monitoring, attacker-controlled input can enter a shell invocation that connects swatchdog to snmptrap. Successful exploitation can run commands with the privileges of the Zimbra service account.
The Cyber Security Agency of Singapore assigns the vulnerability a CVSS v3.1 score of 8.9 out of 10. NVD lists it in CISA’s Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security says CISA added it on August 21, 2026.
Am I affected if my Zimbra server has SNMP enabled?
Check all three conditions: the Zimbra version, whether the optional package is installed, and whether SNMP notifications are enabled. SNMP being enabled by itself does not establish that a server is affected, and an unpatched Zimbra server is not necessarily exposed to this flaw if the specified SNMP configuration is absent.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Version: Zimbra Collaboration earlier than 10.1.20 is within the affected version range identified by NVD and government advisories.
- Package: The optional
zimbra-snmppackage must be installed. - Configuration: SNMP notifications must be enabled.
Assess each relevant Zimbra server, including mailbox nodes, against those conditions. Also establish whether the server was reachable by untrusted hosts during the period it was vulnerable; exposure and configuration help prioritize investigation, but neither on its own confirms exploitation.
Patch and reduce exposure
Zimbra Collaboration 10.1.20 is the fixed release identified by Microsoft and CERT.LV. Microsoft reports that it was released July 20, 2026. Upgrade to 10.1.20 or a later release using Zimbra’s current vendor-supported instructions, and verify the resulting version on every relevant node.

If an upgrade cannot happen immediately, Microsoft recommends uninstalling the optional zimbra-snmp package, disabling SNMP notifications, and restricting SNMP and SMTP access to trusted hosts. CERT.LV also identifies disabling SNMP notifications as a temporary measure. These steps reduce exposure while patching is pending; they do not replace installing the fixed release.
Choose the response based on what you find
| Situation | What to establish | Priority |
|---|---|---|
| Unpatched, with no known evidence of compromise | Version, package and notification state, internet reachability, and any signs of attacker activity. | Upgrade to 10.1.20 or later. If that must wait, apply the temporary exposure-reduction measures and continue checking for compromise. |
| Evidence of exploitation or attacker access | Scope affected nodes, commands and processes, persistence, accessed secrets, and possible mailbox-data access. | Contain and preserve evidence under your incident-response process, then investigate persistence and scope credential or data exposure as well as patching. |
Investigate for signs of exploitation
Microsoft’s September 30, 2026 incident report describes multiple activity chains across confirmed compromises. Its findings are investigation leads, not proof that any particular indicator will be present on every affected server.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.

- Command execution: Look for suspicious commands through the Zimbra monitoring path, especially a
snmptrapinvocation followed by shell metacharacters or download commands. - Webshells and servlet artifacts: Inspect Zimbra application and servlet work directories across mailbox nodes for unexpected JSP files and generated or compiled servlet artifacts. Removing one suspected webshell does not establish that other persistence is gone.
- Persistence and system changes: Check for unexpected systemd services, unusual ownership or timestamp changes, reverse-shell activity, and suspicious permissions on publicly served directories.
- Secrets and data access: Determine whether Zimbra configuration, authentication secrets, credentials, or mailbox data may have been accessed. Rotate affected secrets as indicated by the incident findings.
- Network activity: Treat a confirmed reverse-shell connection as evidence of attacker access, even if no payload was quarantined.
Coordinate containment, forensic preservation, and recovery through your organization’s incident-response process. Microsoft discusses Defender for Endpoint and Defender XDR detections and investigation capabilities, but those are possible tools, not prerequisites for responding to the vulnerability.
What Microsoft observed—and what remains unconfirmed
Microsoft reports reconnaissance, command execution, webshell and reverse-shell deployment, persistence, credential collection, and attempts to collect mailbox data across confirmed compromises. Those behaviors were reported across multiple attack chains; the report does not say every compromised host showed every behavior.
