The reported average fell from 108 in 2024 to 91 in 2025; that change is not proof that 17 people were made redundant.
What happened at Outplay Entertainment?
The Herald Scotland reported that Outplay Entertainment Ltd, a games company based in Dundee, returned to profitability after a business “reshape.” Its account of the company’s unaudited abridged accounts covers the year ended 31 December 2025. The Herald’s accessible report describes a 16% reduction in average employee numbers, but does not state a precise profit figure or identify the profit measure.
The report was published under the headline “Scottish games company cuts workforce by 16 per cent in ‘reshape’”. The accessible Herald extract supports the return-to-profitability and average-workforce claims, but not a specific number of redundancies.
What do the workforce figures mean?
Secondary coverage summarizing the 2025 accounts reports average employee numbers of 108 in 2024 and 91 in 2025. The drop is 17 on those reported averages, or approximately 16% when compared with the 2024 figure.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
These are average headcounts for two accounting years, not a count of individual employees dismissed. They do not establish how many people, if any, were directly made redundant, when any departures occurred, or whether other workforce changes contributed to the averages.
What is known about the financial results?
The Herald reports a return to profitability but its accessible extract does not specify whether that means operating profit, profit before tax, or another measure. Secondary coverage says shareholders’ funds increased from £3.7 million in 2024 to £3.9 million in 2025, but those figures have not been independently confirmed against the company filing.

Shareholders’ funds and profit are different accounting measures: the reported rise in shareholders’ funds should not be treated as the amount of profit earned during the year. Without the original filing and its definitions, the scale and precise basis of the reported profitability cannot be stated.

Streamline Feed, a secondary report published on 2 October 2026, attributes the change to a reshaping of the business in early 2024 following a difficult 2023. It also attributes to director Doug Hare the explanation that Outplay continued investment in new games, with capitalised development rising year on year. Those details and the quoted wording come from secondary coverage; the accessible Herald extract does not independently confirm them.
