Lilly describes the service as a platform powered by Evermed—not as a pharmacy—and says it does not prescribe or dispense medicines.
How LillyDirect works in Australia
The service moves prescription and delivery steps online while leaving clinical decisions with a healthcare professional and dispensing with a licensed pharmacy. Lilly describes the process as follows:
- Get an electronic prescription. A healthcare professional must issue the e-script. Lilly says prescribing decisions and clinical responsibility remain with that professional.
- Create an account and submit the e-script token. The patient enters the prescription token through LillyDirect’s online service.
- Confirm the order details. The patient confirms the medicine and delivery details, then proceeds to payment. Lilly says the price is shown after the e-script code is entered and depends on the prescription.
- The pharmacy dispenses and sends the medicine. A licensed pharmacy handles dispensing, fulfilment and delivery to the patient’s home.
Lilly lists home delivery, prescription and repeat management, and delivery tracking among the service features. It describes pricing as “competitive,” but the service page does not provide a specific price or a comparison with community pharmacies. That company description is not evidence of a saving.
Who prescribes and dispenses?
The prescriber is the healthcare professional who issues the e-script. LillyDirect is the online fulfilment platform, while a licensed pharmacy dispenses the prescription and handles fulfilment. Lilly says the platform itself neither prescribes nor dispenses. The available service description does not identify a complete list of participating pharmacies.

What medicines and conditions does the service cover?
Lilly says the service covers select Lilly medicines for people living with obesity, type 2 diabetes, and moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnoea. Its reviewed service description does not provide a complete named-medicine list. Check the current service listing and authoritative product information for any medicine-specific details rather than assuming a particular product is offered for a particular condition.
How much does LillyDirect cost?
Lilly says the price depends on the prescription and appears after the e-script code is entered. The service page reviewed does not state a price, delivery charge, or like-for-like comparison with a community pharmacy. To compare routes, check the total amount payable, including delivery, as well as repeat-order arrangements and access to pharmacist advice.

What to check before using an online fulfilment service
- Which licensed pharmacy will dispense the prescription, and how can you contact it?
- How will your prescription be transferred, and how are repeats managed?
- What is the total price, including any delivery charge?
- What delivery tracking and handling arrangements are provided?
- Which service terms and privacy policy apply? Lilly notes that account creation and sign-in lead to a third-party-operated site with separate terms and a separate privacy policy.
Why the distinction matters in Australia
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) says the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989 prohibits advertising prescription medicines to the public, except in very limited circumstances. Its guidance says a pharmacy cannot promote named prescription medicines or a specific class as available for dispensing, and that adding a disclaimer advising consumers to consult a health practitioner does not remove advertising restrictions. The TGA also identifies prescription-only medicines and substances, including weight-loss injections, among goods that cannot be advertised to the general public. This explains why a description of the fulfilment service should not be read as a public promotion of a particular prescription medicine.
