Its plans and product announcements describe people overseeing increasingly automated security operations—not evidence that a particular oversight design has been independently proven effective.
How does ESET use human oversight in AI cybersecurity?
ESET describes two related goals: protecting people and organizations as they use AI, and applying AI to cybersecurity tasks. Its May 2026 strategy announcement grouped its investment into three areas: security-first AI models, a layered AI security stack, and a new-generation AI security operations center (SOC). ESET said the SOC direction is intended to add autonomous capabilities under human oversight. These were announced investment priorities and plans, not confirmation that every capability was already available.
“This investment lets us work across the full horizon: securing AI use, building AI models for cybersecurity, and bringing autonomous capabilities into security operations under human oversight,” said Juraj Jánošík, ESET’s vice president of artificial intelligence, in the May 19, 2026 announcement. [ESET’s May 2026 announcement]
In practical terms, ESET’s descriptions position AI as a way to monitor activity, identify suspicious behavior, and assist security operations, while people retain a role in supervision and investigation. The announcements do not specify a universal approval workflow—for example, whether an analyst must approve every block or remediation action—so the precise human role depends on the product and deployment.

What does ESET say it is protecting?
AI prompts and responses
In an April 2, 2026 preview, ESET described planned browser protections that would inspect chatbot prompts and responses. The stated aims included identifying malicious or misleading content, reducing the risk of sensitive-data exposure, and recording activity so an organization could investigate it. The announcement also discussed prompt-injection attempts, scripts, and sensitive information entered into AI tools. Because the release described features as upcoming, it should not be read as proof that they have since launched in every market or product edition. [ESET’s April 2026 preview]
AI skills and agent actions
ESET’s May 2026 announcement reported that, since March 2026, its technologies had scanned nearly 800,000 unique AI skills, classified approximately 25,000 as suspicious, and blocked more than 3,000 as malicious. ESET said the total scanned represented a 13-fold surge from approximately 60,000 publicly available skills it had observed at the beginning of 2026. These are company-reported figures and classifications, not independently audited results. [ESET’s May 2026 announcement]

An October 2026 announcement described AI Agent Security and AI Behavioral Monitoring as ways to flag suspicious agent actions and support oversight. It also identified ESET LiveCortex as a cross-perimeter correlation and response engine included in the ESET PROTECT Platform, and said ESET AI Advisor was being renamed ESET LiveAI. These are ESET’s product descriptions; names, inclusion, and availability may vary by market and release. [ESET’s October 2026 announcement]
What does human oversight add—and what can go wrong?
ESET’s 2024 white paper argues that AI can help detect threats, support response, and reduce alert noise, but it also identifies limitations that make human expertise important. Security models rely on high-quality training data; poor or incomplete data can undermine results. False positives can consume analyst time or divert attention, and systems need updates as threats and environments change. [ESET’s 2024 white paper, “Cybersecurity in an AI-Turbocharged Era”]

For an organization evaluating an AI security system, “human oversight” is most useful when it means more than a person being nominally present. Buyers should determine what the system observes, which decisions it can take automatically, when an analyst is asked to intervene, how alerts can be reviewed or corrected, and what audit records are retained. ESET’s public materials describe monitoring, logging, and human oversight as goals or product capabilities, but do not provide an independent assessment of how well those safeguards work in deployments.
Can AI replace cybersecurity analysts?
ESET’s public position does not support treating AI as a wholesale replacement for analysts. Its 2025 ESET World report attributed to CEO Richard Marko the view that combining human oversight with AI-enabled automation could let SOC personnel focus on threats with real impact. The report’s phrase “zero false positive” is an aspiration in that statement, not a measured guarantee. [ESET World 2025 event report]

More broadly, the ESET material describes a vendor’s approach; it does not settle whether AI can replace analysts across organizations, which differ in expertise, systems, risk tolerance, and staffing. Automation may assist with monitoring and triage, but teams still need people able to assess context, investigate uncertain alerts, and decide how to respond.

ESET’s strategy announcement also described a €40 million AI investment and a three-year hiring plan to grow its R&D team to 1,000 researchers and engineers. Those are company-announced commitments, not evidence on their own of product effectiveness. Richard Marko said, “We believe the future of cybersecurity cannot depend entirely on models controlled by Big Tech.” [ESET’s May 2026 announcement]
The available evidence is primarily ESET-authored: it establishes what the company says it plans, builds, and reports, but does not independently verify its internal counts, demonstrate that its oversight safeguards are effective, or compare its performance with other vendors.
