Apple Invites version 1.12.0 adds full-resolution sharing for Shared Albums, more invitation-background styles in Image Playground—including photorealistic—and an inbox link that lets guests verify their email without typing a code. Apple says the update also includes bug fixes and performance improvements. The update was released September 30, 2026, according to MacRumors’ report reproducing Apple’s release notes.
What’s new in Apple Invites 1.12.0
| Change | What it does | Useful context |
|---|---|---|
| Full-resolution Shared Albums | Shared Albums support full-resolution sharing in the Invites app. | Apple’s release notes do not give a maximum resolution or file-size limit. Apple Support says full-resolution sharing in iCloud Shared Albums is supported starting with iOS 27; see Apple’s Shared Albums guidance. |
| Image Playground backgrounds | Create invitation backgrounds in a wider range of styles, including photorealistic. | The release notes do not specify feature-specific device, region, or account eligibility. |
| Email verification link | Guests who need to verify their email can tap a link sent to their inbox rather than enter a code. | Email verification still applies when required; the update changes how guests complete that step. |
Apple’s release notes also list bug fixes and performance improvements, without identifying individual fixes or publishing performance measurements. The App Store listing describes Apple Invites as available for iPhone models running iOS 18 or later, but that app minimum does not establish that every new feature works on every supported system. See the Apple Invites App Store listing.
How to share full-resolution photos in Apple Invites
Use a Shared Album associated with your event in Apple Invites. Version 1.12.0 enables full-resolution sharing for Shared Albums inside the app. Apple’s release notes say that people without Apple devices can join and contribute to these albums, so Android users can participate through the shared album access Apple provides. The release notes do not state a maximum photo resolution or file size.
Apple Support places full-resolution iCloud Shared Albums support in the context of iOS 27. That system-version note concerns Shared Albums generally; it should not be read as proof that all devices running the app’s iOS 18 minimum can use full-resolution sharing.

What photorealistic invitation backgrounds mean
Image Playground can now create high-quality invitation backgrounds in styles that include photorealistic imagery. This gives hosts more control over the visual tone of an invite; the release notes do not provide a separate eligibility list for this feature. Apple’s App Store description includes the new background feature, but does not establish which specific devices, regions, or accounts can access it.
How guests verify email in Apple Invites
When a guest is asked to verify an email address, version 1.12.0 lets them tap a verification link in their inbox instead of manually entering a code. This removes the code-entry step, not email verification itself.

Who can create an invite, RSVP, and join an album?
Apple’s February 4, 2025 launch announcement says creating invitations requires an iCloud+ subscription, while anyone can RSVP—even without an Apple Account or Apple device. Apple describes access through the Invites app and the web. The version 1.12.0 release notes separately say that people without Apple devices can join and contribute to Shared Albums, extending the update’s photo-sharing use beyond Apple hardware. See Apple’s launch announcement.
The launch announcement quoted Brent Chiu-Watson, Apple’s senior director of Worldwide Product Marketing for Apps and iCloud: “With Apple Invites, an event comes to life from the moment the invitation is created, and users can share lasting memories even after they get together.” This was a statement about the app’s launch in 2025, not a comment on the 2026 update.
