Station owner E. W. Scripps called the removal a “clear violation” of its agreement with DISH after acquiring WTVQ earlier in 2026. That is Scripps’s characterization—not an independently established legal finding—and the report did not explain why DISH removed the station. TV Tech’s October 1 report said DISH had not issued a statement at the time.
What happened to WTVQ on DISH?
According to TV Tech, DISH removed WTVQ (Channel 36), the ABC affiliate serving Lexington, Kentucky, from its channel lineup. The report identified E. W. Scripps as WTVQ’s owner and said the removal followed Scripps’ acquisition of the station earlier in 2026.
The report did not establish whether the channel is still unavailable, whether either company has since commented, or whether the dispute has been resolved. Its account is dated October 1, 2026, so it should not be read as confirmation of WTVQ’s current carriage status.
Why did Scripps call the removal a violation?
TV Tech attributed this statement to Scripps: “clear violation of the agreement Scripps currently has in place with Dish following Scripps’ acquisition of WTVQ earlier this year.” The report did not identify an individual speaker or publish the agreement itself.

That wording describes Scripps’s position. The report does not independently establish that DISH breached the agreement, and it says the reason for the removal was unclear. As of the report’s publication, DISH had not issued a statement.
How can Lexington viewers watch WTVQ without DISH?
TV Tech named an over-the-air antenna and Fubo, Hulu with Live TV, YouTube TV, and DirecTV as alternatives at the time of its report. The report does not verify whether those services still carry WTVQ, or compare their prices, terms, or reception. Check the current local-channel lineup for your address before signing up.

Check antenna reception at your address
An antenna may be an option for receiving WTVQ over the air, but reception depends on the location and setup. The report includes no reception tests or antenna recommendations, so it cannot establish whether a particular antenna will work at a particular home.
Confirm a streaming or satellite service’s lineup
For a paid television service, check that WTVQ is currently available in the Lexington market and at your specific address. The services named in the October 1 report are not confirmed here as current options.

What viewers should take from the report
The reported removal and Scripps’s objection are clear; the cause, DISH’s response, and the dispute’s outcome are not. For the latest practical answer about watching WTVQ, verify its status directly with DISH or the alternative service you are considering.
