In James Bentley’s PC Gamer comparison, the Glorious Model O Eternal ranks first with a custom score of 93.5%, narrowly ahead of the 8BitDo Retro R8 at 92%. Bentley says the Retro R8 is the mouse on his desk. The ranking is a playful blend of price-to-weight value and PC Gamer review scores—not a universal measure of gaming performance, comfort, or build quality.
Which gaming mouse came out on top?
Bentley’s comparison puts the Glorious Model O Eternal first, with a final score of 93.5%. The 8BitDo Retro R8 follows at 92%. Bentley wrote: “Second place is the 8BitDo Retro R8, which coincidentally happens to be the mouse I keep on my desk.”
The next two displayed scores are 80.5% for the MCHOSE K7 V2 Ultra+ and 80% for the MCHOSE L7 Pro+. Bentley’s accompanying narrative calls the MCHOSE mice joint third, although the table gives them different scores; the displayed figures therefore put the K7 V2 Ultra+ ahead by half a point.
How the “James score” works
Bentley used each mouse’s MSRP and weight to calculate grams per dollar, then mapped the comparison set onto a 0–100 price-to-weight value scale. He averaged that value percentage with the mouse’s PC Gamer review score to produce the final score, which he calls the “James score.”

What the ranking does—and does not—tell you
It rewards a particular kind of value
A low cost per gram boosts the price-to-weight component, so inexpensive mice with more mass can do well. The Protoarc EM25, for example, has the table’s best price-to-weight value at 100%, but its 40% review score brings its final score to 70%. That illustrates why the combined result is not simply a ranking of cheapest mice.
It can work against ultralight mice
A very light mouse may be desirable for quick, low-effort movement, but fewer grams for the money can lower its score in a system built around cost per gram. Bentley acknowledges that the formula can penalize ultralight designs. More weight is not itself better gaming performance, and the score does not assess whether a mouse’s mass suits your grip, games, or preferences.

The ranking covers mice PC Gamer reviewed, not every gaming mouse on sale. Its results also depend on the chosen MSRP and the publication’s review scores. A different set of products, prices, or scoring priorities could change the order.
