In her October 1 review, Hindustan Times’ Riya Sharma argues that Bigg Boss Hindi Season 20 has become painfully boring despite promising moments from Salman Khan and Qazi Touqeer. Her case is about the show’s pacing and game design—not a measured verdict from viewers: she says image-conscious contestants, visible nudges from the show, and repetitive daily episodes have drained spontaneity, while Weekend Ka Vaar remains the clearest draw.
Why does the review call Bigg Boss 20 boring?
Sharma’s central complaint is that the season began with promise but has not turned that promise into compelling everyday television. She points to housemates seeming careful about how they appear, episodes that lean on chores and predictable exchanges, and tasks that do not consistently expose character or change relationships. These are her observations and judgments, not independently verified production facts.
The concern is not simply that the house is quiet. It is that viewers may see contestants managing their image rather than reacting naturally, while the episodes offer too few consequential developments to make that restraint interesting.
When advice to contestants can weaken spontaneity
As an example, Sharma cites Yung DSA being told to reconsider his group because he could come across negatively. She argues that feedback of this kind can encourage housemates to play to the cameras and protect their public image. She also worries that repeated praise from the show could affect Qazi’s behavior. The review presents these as risks to the format, not proof of a deliberate production strategy.

Why chores and tasks matter
Sharma finds the recurring focus on kitchen responsibilities and other chores dull. Her larger point is that a task should do more than fill an episode: it can reveal who is loyal, selfish, competitive, quick-tempered, or strategic, and it can make alliances costly. She criticizes tasks that do not reliably achieve that, as well as moments when, in her account, the show tells contestants what they could have done to create drama.
What is working: Salman Khan, Qazi and the house dynamics
The review’s strongest praise is for Salman Khan’s first two Weekend Ka Vaar appearances. Sharma says he seemed unfiltered when calling contestants out and taking clear positions, and highlights his calm sarcastic digs and handling of the “Wanted” segment. She also singles out his imitation of Kanika Mann and his response to Qazi’s alleged act of being unwell. These are examples from her review, rather than an independent episode-by-episode assessment.

Sharma credits Qazi with bringing entertainment and taking stands, but says the audience still sees more of his performer persona than what lies beyond it. She also praises Mahhi Vij for creating conflict without needing manufactured drama and Amrapali Dubey for stirring house dynamics by carrying information.
That praise does not, in Sharma’s view, solve the season’s underlying problem: isolated lively moments have not produced a dependable hook for the ordinary episodes. After three weeks, she says she sees no obvious winner and regards Weekend Ka Vaar as the one clear reason to tune in.

How Bigg Boss 20 compares with Rise & Fall
Sharma compares the season with Rise & Fall Season 2, which she says premiered on September 26. In her view, its worker-and-ruler structure gives tasks immediate consequences: results can move contestants between positions of power, making alliances and losses matter. That creates more immediate unpredictability for her than Bigg Boss 20’s current rhythm. This is a reviewer’s format comparison, not evidence that Rise & Fall has higher ratings or is objectively better.
| What to compare | Bigg Boss 20 in Sharma’s review | Rise & Fall in Sharma’s comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Spontaneity | Contestants may be guarding their image, especially when feedback makes them conscious of how they look. | Task outcomes and shifting power positions make the game feel less predictable. |
| Task impact | Tasks do not always reveal personality or create lasting consequences. | Results can move contestants between worker and ruler positions. |
| Everyday episode hook | Sharma says Weekend Ka Vaar is the clearest draw; routine episodes rely too much on chores and familiar interactions. | Power shifts give the format a more immediate source of uncertainty, in her assessment. |
Is the boredom reaction shared by other reviewers?
There is some contemporary critical corroboration, but not enough to call the reaction a consensus. Aaj Tak’s Hansa Koranga described an early episode as burdensome and dull, criticizing casting and pacing. Koimoi’s Trisha Gaur called the premiere disappointing, described its lineup as low-key, and felt the early bed-allocation conflict seemed manufactured. Those are individual reviews, not representative audience findings.

JioStar says Bigg Boss Hindi Season 20 premiered September 6, 2026, on JioHotstar and COLORS, listing 9 p.m. on JioHotstar and 10:30 p.m. on Colors TV without specifying a timezone. The company called it the biggest opening day ever for a reality show on JioHotstar, but its announcement gave no season-specific audience number. A strong opening-day claim and a critical judgment about episode quality address different things.
JioStar also describes the wider franchise as having reached 500 million-plus people and generated 438 billion viewing minutes across languages in 2025; those are company-reported franchise figures, not ratings for Hindi Season 20. Neither they nor informal fan comments establish how most viewers feel about the current season.

What could make the season more engaging?
Sharma’s proposed jolt is a wildcard contestant with an existing connection to someone in the house or an unresolved conflict there. The rationale is straightforward: a new entrant can create more than a brief surprise if their arrival changes alliances, exposes past tensions, or forces contestants to make consequential choices. It remains her suggestion, not a prediction or confirmed casting plan.
