The protection continues until 30 November 2026 or until a further court order, whichever comes first. The petition is to be placed before a division bench on 27 November.
What the High Court ordered
In an order dated 1 October 2026, Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya extended the interim direction first made on 1 September. That direction requires the Superintendent of Police, Krishnanagar Police District, to provide two police personnel whenever Moitra enters her Krishnanagar constituency.
The court stated: “Hence, interim order passed by this Court on 1st September, 2026 thereby directing Superintendent of Police, Krishnanagar Police District to provide protection to the petitioner, is extended till 30th November, 2026 or until further order whichever is earlier.” The order does not describe the personnel as armed, nor does it establish a permanent or general security arrangement.
Why the interim direction was extended
The order records Moitra’s counsel’s submission that further egg-pelting incidents had occurred after the 1 September direction. This is presented as counsel’s submission; the order excerpt does not make it a separate judicial finding.

What happens next
The petition is to be placed before a division bench on 27 November 2026. The order also notes that a 23 September direction in a public-interest matter asked the Registry to identify petitions concerning egg-pelting on individuals or public figures for listing on that date. The 1 October extension remains subject to any further order made by the court.
