The seven-second face dip is a local-folklore ritual at the River Sligachan on Scotland’s Isle of Skye, beneath or beside the Old Sligachan Bridge near the A87. The promise of “eternal beauty” belongs to the tale; it is not a demonstrated effect.

In the version described by Hindustan Times, the ritual is to submerge your face in the river for at least seven seconds and then let it air-dry rather than wiping it. These are reported folklore instructions, not skincare guidance or proof of a cosmetic benefit.
What is the legend behind the promise?
One version of the tale, as recounted by travel sources Rabbie’s and The Spirited Explorer and relayed by Hindustan Times, begins with the warrior Scathach guarding Skye. Cu Chulainn sails from Ireland to challenge her. During their battle, Scathach’s daughter goes to the river for help; fairies suggest feeding the fighters, and a shared meal brings the conflict to an end. The fairies are then said to bless the river with eternal beauty.
