The mix covers different jobs—from adding PC or console storage to carrying files or keeping a larger backup—so check compatibility and the live listing before buying. The prices below are dated examples, not confirmed current offers.
What the early storage deals cover
The roundup published by Mashable and syndicated by Yahoo Tech on September 30, 2026, spans four distinct storage types: removable microSD cards, internal drives, portable SSDs, and higher-capacity hard drives. They are not interchangeable. A card must match a device’s supported format, an internal drive must fit the computer or console and use a supported interface, and portable storage needs a compatible connection.
The phrase “RAMageddon” is the roundup’s framing, not evidence here of a quantified or independently established market-wide memory shortage or price trend. Consider each offer on its own merits rather than assuming every storage product is becoming scarce or that every listed discount is unusually good.

Internal expansion for a PC or console
The roundup named the Samsung SSD 990 PRO 2TB PCIe 4.0 as its “Best SSD deal.” It reported sequential speeds of up to 7,450 MB/s; that is a manufacturer-style specification as reported by the article, not an independent benchmark in this coverage. Confirm that your system supports the drive’s form factor and PCIe generation, and check the console or PC maker’s requirements before ordering.

#1 Best Overall
- NEXT GEN GAMING: Works with Nintendo Switch 2.
- READY FOR TOMORROW. Ready for future products with a PCIe-NVMe interface; performs at UHS-I speeds with microSD UHS-I and UHS-II devices.
- EXPONENTIALLY FASTER PERFORMANCE. Up to 4.4 times faster transfer speeds than our fastest microSD UHS-I cards [9]. Transfer a 2-hour HD movie in less than 3.5 seconds [1]; save up to 2.8 minutes transferring 60 minutes of 4K UHD video [4] shot at 30 fps when paired with the SanDisk PRO-READER SD Express Dual Card (sold separately) [9]
- DURABILITY YOU CAN COUNT ON: Cards are waterproof, temperature-proof, humidity-proof, drop-proof, shock-proof, magnetic-proof, x-ray proof, and wear-out proof [5].
- HEAT MANAGEMENT REIMAGINED. SanDisk ThermAdapt helps keep devices from overheating with a specially designed enclosure and controller that uses dynamic adaptive thermal management.
Other listed internal options included WD Blue hard drives. These use a different storage format and should not be treated as equivalent to an NVMe SSD for speed-sensitive tasks. The roundup did not establish a complete independently tested comparison between the products.
Removable microSD storage
Named cards included the SanDisk 512GB microSD Express Card, SanDisk 32GB Ultra microSDHC, and SanDisk 128GB High Endurance Video microSDXC. Check both card capacity and format support for the intended device: a device that accepts one microSD family may not support another, and advertised capacity alone does not establish compatibility.
Rank #2
- CAPTURE LARGER THAN LIFE. Unlock startling 5K[3] point-of-view and pristine high-res stills with video speed class ratings of U3 and V30[4].
- SPEED BARRIERS SHATTERED. Save precious moments with rapid read speeds up to 245MB/s[2] and write speeds up to 170MB/s[2] [256GB-1TB capacities[1]].
- MAXIMIZE WITH MASSIVE CAPACITY. Record longer and store more with up to 2TB[1] of storage.
- DURABILITY YOU CAN COUNT ON. SANDISK microSD cards are temperature proof, humidity proof, waterproof, shock proof, drop proof, magnet proof, X-ray proof and wear-out proof[7].
- EASY CONTENT MANAGEMENT. Easily back up, organize, and transfer your photos and videos with the SANDISK Memory Zone desktop or Android mobile app[10].
Portable file transfer
The roundup featured the SanDisk 1TB Extreme Portable SSD, SanDisk 500GB Portable SSD, and Samsung T7 and T9 portable SSDs. For a portable drive, compare capacity and physical durability alongside the interface and transfer speeds supported by both the drive and the host device. Product names alone do not establish that a particular model will reach its advertised maximum speed with your computer.
Higher-capacity backup
For larger, less mobile storage needs, the named options included the Seagate 2TB Portable Hard Drive, WD My Passport 5TB, and WD Elements 5TB and 6TB. These may suit file archives or backups where capacity matters more than SSD-style performance. Before relying on a single drive for important files, consider keeping a separate copy in another location.
Rank #3
- EXPAND YOUR STORAGE. Insert your card to add massive storage up to 1.5TB[1] to your Android smartphones and tablets, digital cameras, and laptops.
- SPACE FOR MORE. With expansive capacities up to 1.5TB[1], capture and store hours of Full HD video[4], movies, music, games, photos, and podcasts.
- MOVE FILES FAST. Use your card with the SANDISK QuickFlow microSD UHS-I Card USB-A Reader[6] to achieve up to 195MB/s[2] read speeds [128GB-1.5TB models] and offload your content fast.
- LOAD APPS IN A SNAP. Rated A1[3], the SANDISK Ultra microSD card is optimized for faster app launch and overall app performance.
- EASY CONTENT MANAGEMENT. Easily back up, organize, and transfer your photos and videos with the SANDISK Memory Zone desktop or Android mobile app[5].
Prices were reported on September 30—not verified live
The Yahoo Tech article reported the Samsung 990 PRO 2TB at $389.99 against a listed reference price of $639.99, and the SanDisk 512GB microSD Express Card at $159.99 against $199.99. These are figures reported at publication, not current price checks; they may have changed or expired. The reference price alone also does not show whether an offer is a good value compared with the product’s recent selling prices.
The roundup listed additional products without establishing a complete, independently tested price-and-performance comparison. Check the exact capacity and model, seller, stock status, return terms, and final price on the retailer listing before deciding. A listing may show multiple variants, so ensure the selected option is the one you intended.

How to judge a deal before checkout
- Start with the job. Decide whether you need internal expansion, removable card storage, a portable transfer drive, or a larger backup drive.
- Verify compatibility. Check the device maker’s supported card format, drive form factor, interface, and capacity limits. For a console, use its current storage requirements rather than relying on a product category label.
- Match performance to use. For large transfers or demanding applications, compare the drive’s stated interface and speed with what the host device supports. A maximum sequential-speed specification is not a guarantee of everyday results.
- Check the live offer carefully. Confirm the exact model and capacity, seller, availability, and checkout price. Compare against a meaningful recent price history when possible instead of relying only on a crossed-out reference price.
- Plan for data protection. If the drive will hold important files, keep another copy. A discounted storage device is not a substitute for a backup plan.
When Prime Big Deal Days begins

Quick Recap
Best Value
- Capacity Reminder: Display capacity of external hard drive 1TB often appears as around 931GB on Windows. MacOS typically shows full 1TB. This display capacity reduction of 7% to 10% from SSD actual capacity is from algorithms differences in which 1GB is interpreted as 1024MB on Windows and 1000MB on SSDs
- 550MB/s: Instantly access to your files with blazing 6Gbps external ssd speed up to 550MB/s. LED Light indicates portable ssd instant activity (Actual speed depends on drive capacity, host device, OS and application)
