These are details reported by the broadcaster, not independently verified case-file information.
Why does Al Jazeera say he could face deportation?
Al Jazeera frames changes to Japan’s immigration laws as creating a risk that Sunday could be deported. A samurai story inspired by Yasuke
Sunday’s film within the documentary is a samurai story inspired by Yasuke, whom Al Jazeera describes as remembered as Japan’s first Black samurai. That is the feature’s framing; the production descriptions do not supply a separate historical account of Yasuke.

Scenes rooted in his experience
Moon Road Media says Sunday writes, directs, and acts in scenes based on his experience as an asylum seeker, involving people from his community and Japanese people he meets. ELDA Productions says Sunday and collaborators began filming scenes with the local Japanese community. ELDA also says the project was inspired by Wakaliwood, which it describes as a Ugandan style of action movies.
The production accounts describe a project that brings Sunday’s own experience into the fictional story. Al Jazeera presents that act of filmmaking as a creative response to the insecurity he faces, rather than as a resolution of his immigration case.
