But the reported call is a prediction about how Dollar Tree could fare, not evidence that a shaky economy has already driven customers to its stores. Dollar Tree’s fiscal second quarter ended August 1, 2026. In results published August 27, the company reported total sales growth of 7.0% and comparable-store sales growth of 3.7%. That mix matters to the trade-down thesis. Most of the reported comparable-store growth came from customers spending more per transaction, rather than a large increase in traffic. Those figures describe company performance; on their own, they do not show why customers spent more or establish a link to economic uncertainty.
Why the multi-price rollout matters
Dollar Tree said it converted or added about 710 stores to its multi-price format during Q2, bringing the total to approximately 6,600 by the end of the quarter. The format gives the company another way to offer merchandise at different price points. Loop Capital’s reported view is that this initiative may support comparable-store sales, but the available material does not quantify how much of Q2 growth came from the format or provide store-level results for converted locations.

The scale of the rollout makes execution a key question for investors: whether the expanded assortment and price points can continue attracting shoppers while delivering the sales growth management expects.
Separate reported earnings from tariff-refund effects
Dollar Tree reported diluted earnings per share of $2.70 for Q2, including a $1.31 benefit from tariff refunds. That one-time benefit is a substantial part of reported EPS, so the headline figure should not be read as a clean measure of recurring earnings power.

For fiscal 2026, management projected adjusted diluted EPS of $7.70 to $8.05, including an approximate $0.60 tariff-refund benefit, and comparable-store sales growth of 3% to 4%. The company also said its Q3 outlook included an approximate $0.50 impact from reinvesting tariff refunds. Without Loop Capital’s note, its valuation method and assumptions cannot be independently assessed from these sources. Investors should also account for the company’s execution on the multi-price rollout, the difference between ticket growth and traffic growth, the tariff-refund contribution to earnings, and the risks described in Dollar Tree’s filings. The company reported repurchasing $605 million of shares in Q2 and having $2.5 billion remaining under its authorization as of August 1, 2026; buybacks are a capital-allocation decision, not evidence that the analyst target will be reached.
