He pointed to Zidane’s aura and ability to win, and their shared history in the national team gives his endorsement a personal context.
Why Dhorasoo says Zidane was right for the job
Asked who could succeed Deschamps, Dhorasoo endorsed Zidane. In an interview conducted in French and English, with the French translated by Dhorasoo’s media representative Gianluca Joseph, he said: “It is wonderful that Zidane is the head coach. If there was one person who could have succeeded Didier Deschamps, it was him. And he has this aura.” Dhorasoo added that Zidane knows how to win and that France goes into every tournament aiming to win. Hindustan Times, October 1, 2026.
The endorsement is a view about suitability, not a comparison of candidates: Dhorasoo’s explanation rests on Zidane’s standing and winning reputation rather than a detailed assessment of coaching alternatives.
What is known about Zidane’s appointment
A regional French Football Federation publication, Ligue Méditerranée de Football, reported on July 29, 2026, that Zidane was the new France manager. It said the role would officially begin on August 1, 2026, run for four seasons and cover the period through the 2030 World Cup. That appointment information is specifically attributed to the regional federation’s notice; national FFF pages available at the time did not present a uniformly updated account.

The shared France-team history behind the endorsement
Dhorasoo and Zidane were teammates for France. Dhorasoo had been part of the side’s qualifying campaign for the 2006 World Cup, but received little playing time against Switzerland and South Korea and spent the rest of the finals on the bench. The Hindustan Times account describes not playing as painful for him.

When Zidane returned to the France team ahead of that World Cup, Dhorasoo accepted losing his place to him. His feelings about Zidane were sharper in a 2011 interview, when asked about the player: “Do you have any other question?” In the 2026 interview, Dhorasoo said, “I have moved on.” He also appeared in Substitute, a documentary about France’s 2006 finals and his experience shifting from the team’s mainstream to its margins. Hindustan Times, October 1, 2026.
Other subjects Dhorasoo discussed
PSG and the balance of power in Ligue 1
Dhorasoo declined to say much about Manchester City’s alleged financial-rule case, saying he was more comfortable with technique than tallying numbers. On Paris Saint-Germain, he defended the club’s investment as part of a project, while arguing that its dominance had reduced suspense in Ligue 1 and that Lyon and Marseille needed to find ways to compete. The article reported that PSG had won 12 of the previous 14 Ligue 1 editions, including the five most recent at the time of publication; that is a publication-time snapshot, not a forecast about the season now underway. Dhorasoo speculated that PSG’s dominance might end that season, but presented it as an expectation rather than a certainty. Hindustan Times, October 1, 2026.
