Gola, a community dog associated with Delhi’s SDA Market in Hauz Khas, won the Fat Dogs of Delhi contest, defeating Saket’s Googoo by a margin reported as nearly 40,000 votes. The exact totals differ between news outlets, so the rounded margin is the clearest summary of the result.
How the Fat Dogs of Delhi contest ended
News reports say the competition began with 64 dogs and moved through online rounds to a final between Gola and Googoo. Hindustan Times reported that voting began on September 24 on the Fat Dogs of Delhi Instagram account. The final combined online voting with four physical polling centres; India Today described the finale as drawing about 94,000 votes.
Local supporters campaigned with social posts, posters, memes and appeals for votes. Contemporary Reddit posts included questions about whom people were voting for and emphatic calls to support Googoo, but those posts are anecdotal rather than representative evidence of public opinion.
Why reports give different exact vote totals
The outlets agree on the winner and a margin close to 40,000, but their published figures do not match. Hindustan Times reported 66,954 votes for Gola and 27,046 for Googoo, a difference of 39,908. It also gave 92,598 online votes and 1,042 offline votes, which add to 93,640.

India Today reported a 39,904-vote margin and 66,952 votes for Gola. It listed 92,958 online votes and 1,042 offline votes while describing the overall total as 94,000. Those numbers do not reconcile with the Hindustan Times figures. The Tribune’s PTI report also described Gola’s lead as nearly 40,000 but did not provide a full count in the cited passage.

No official audited results document is established by the available coverage. Accordingly, Gola’s win is clear, while the precise tally should be attributed to the outlet reporting it rather than treated as a single settled count.

What the event said about animal welfare
Reports connected the contest with planned gifts such as dog beds, collars, food and supplements, as well as animal-welfare support. Coverage does not establish that every announced item or contribution was delivered. The contest was a popularity event, not a recommendation to make dogs gain weight: excess weight can be a health concern, not a pet-care goal.
