Kingdom Come: Deliverance co-founder Martin Klíma hopes Grand Theft Auto 6 succeeds so strongly that other studios feel able to charge more for their games. That is a hope, not a prediction: GTA 6’s launch does not guarantee higher prices across the industry. Klíma argues that larger production costs and fewer ways to find new buyers or capture distribution revenue make a higher price per game one remaining option.
What Martin Klíma means by “blaze a trail”
In an interview reported by PC Gamer on 1 October 2026, Klíma said he hopes GTA 6’s success will give other developers cover or precedent to raise their own prices. He said: “The last thing you can do is to increase the unit price. That would help a lot, but everybody’s scared to death about it. Now, hopefully, GTA will blaze the trail, and it will allow us to increase the cost.”
He is speaking as an individual co-founder, not announcing an official pricing policy for Warhorse Studios or a planned increase for any particular game. His point is that a high-profile release could make consumers and publishers more accepting of higher prices across the market.
Why Klíma says studios are under pressure
Klíma’s argument is that bigger projects require more people and become more expensive to make. A costlier game, he said, needs to sell more copies to remain viable. In a PC Gamer anniversary interview published on 25 September 2026, he described expanding the audience and removing retail intermediaries through digital distribution as avenues the industry had already pursued. Raising the price per copy, in his view, could help.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That is Klíma’s assessment of industry economics, not a quantified finding about every studio. The cited reporting does not provide comparable budgets, sales figures or inflation-adjusted prices that would establish how much development costs have changed or prove that a particular game needs a higher price.

Take-Two’s case for the price
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick offered a separate justification in the same TechRadar report: “Our goal is to deliver way more value to consumers than what we charge them.” He also said game prices had not kept pace with inflation and called GTA 6 an “incredible bargain.” Those statements explain the company’s position; they are not independent measurements of GTA 6’s development costs or the value individual players will get from it.

Will other games actually cost more?
It is possible that a successful $79.99 Standard edition could make a higher launch price easier for some publishers to defend. But the cited reporting establishes neither that GTA 6 will cause industry-wide price increases nor that every game has costs or commercial prospects comparable to Rockstar’s release. A studio’s decision depends on its own budget, audience, scope, platforms and sales strategy.
One audience figure in later coverage also calls for care. Video Games Chronicle reported on 2 October 2026 that a Generations in Play report found 62% of the “most engaged video game players” no longer buy full-price releases. The underlying report’s year and methodology are not established in that coverage, so the figure should not be generalized to all players. It does, however, illustrate why a publisher weighing a higher launch price may also have to consider buyers who wait for discounts.
