Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are scheduled to fight on Friday, December 11, 2026, at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, with a live global stream planned on Netflix. Whether the bout is “too late” has no settled answer: the matchup is still a major contest between two established heavyweights, but the long wait has changed what it can mean for their careers and for fans. The event remains subject to licensing, and Netflix has not yet announced its start time or complete undercard.
What is confirmed about Fury vs Joshua?
Netflix’s October 1, 2026 event guide lists the bout as official for December 11 at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, and says it will stream live globally to Netflix members at no additional cost. The Welsh Rugby Union and Principality Stadium’s September 24 announcement says the event remains subject to licensing, so the scheduled date and venue are not the same as a guarantee that every event detail is final.
Netflix says the complete undercard and start time will be announced later. No start time, bout order or full supporting card should be assumed until the broadcaster updates its guide. The stadium operator gives the venue a maximum capacity of 80,000; that is a capacity figure, not evidence of ticket availability or sales.
What kind of fight are the records and recent results pointing to?
They have never fought professionally. Netflix’s October 1 guide says they sparred when Joshua was an amateur, but sparring recollections are not professional results and do not establish how a contest between them would unfold.

Why did the fight take so long to happen?
Al Jazeera’s October 1 retrospective describes several failed attempts before the current announcement. The details below are that outlet’s account of the negotiations and intervening events, not independent confirmation of the underlying contracts.

- 2022: Al Jazeera reports that Joshua accepted a 60–40 purse split in Fury’s favor, but says the deal collapsed. The split is reported, not an official purse figure.
- April 2026: BBC Sport reported that the matchup still depended on Joshua’s planned July warm-up against Kristian Prenga. Fury promoter Frank Warren said at the time that a Joshua loss would kill the fight; that was a description of uncertainty then, not the status after the later announcement.
- September 24–October 1, 2026: The venue operator announced Cardiff as the scheduled site, the WBC president publicly welcomed the matchup, and Netflix published its event guide calling the bout official.
In what sense could it be “too late”?
As a sporting contest
Both are in their late thirties, but age by itself does not establish a decline in performance or make the matchup uncompetitive. Their professional records and most recent listed bouts show accomplished careers and intervening fights; they do not settle whether either man remains at his best, nor do the available facts provide an objective way to compare their current athletic condition.
As a career-defining result
A win would still give one fighter a direct professional victory over the other, an outcome they have never recorded. But the years of separate careers mean the bout cannot recreate the version of an undisputed championship showdown that was discussed earlier. The WBC has called the fight a final eliminator for Agit Kabayel’s heavyweight belt; that is the WBC’s stated designation, not a reason to treat all sanctioning or mandatory-challenger consequences as settled.

As a long-promised event for fans
Delay can make a matchup feel less urgent: the imagined fight accumulates expectations while the fighters’ actual careers move on. A packed stadium and worldwide stream would make the event large in reach, but scale cannot by itself answer whether it will satisfy more than a decade of anticipation. The venue announcement cites an estimated 325 million paid Netflix subscribers worldwide; that is the operator’s estimate of the service’s subscribers, not a forecast of how many people will watch this fight.

Fury framed the bout as a culmination rather than an overdue correction. At the joint press conference, he said: “It’s the icing on the cake of two great careers, to throw down in front of 80,000 people — and may the best man win.” Al Jazeera quoted him asking, “Is it too late?” before giving the same “icing on the cake” characterization. Those are Fury’s view of the fight, not proof that the wait has made no difference.

Joshua’s press-conference comment focused on preparation: “I just gotta be there from the first to the last minute. Just be well-conditioned, 15-round fit, like the old-school fighters, and do it the old-school way.” His reference to 15-round fitness describes his stated approach; it does not establish that this bout is scheduled for 15 rounds.
WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman also welcomed the matchup, saying on September 29: “They’ve been waiting ten years to fight each other, but it’s never too late. So, I’m happy everything has been put aside.” That is the sanctioning body president’s position, not a definitive sporting verdict.

For viewers, Netflix is the announced broadcaster: its guide says the live stream will be available globally to members at no additional cost. Check that guide for the eventual start time and undercard rather than relying on an unannounced schedule. The event’s licensing status also remains a condition in the stadium operator’s announcement.
