Saudi Civil Defense said an air defense interception over Ahad Rafidah governorate in Saudi Arabia’s Asir region on Friday, October 2, 2026, injured an Asian expatriate when falling shrapnel struck the area. Saudi Gazette reported the account on October 3, attributing it to the Civil Defense directorate. The sources reviewed do not independently verify who launched the missile.
What Saudi authorities reported in Ahad Rafidah
Saudi Gazette reported that Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile over Ahad Rafidah. According to the report, shrapnel falling after the interception injured one Asian expatriate. The report did not identify the person or describe their condition.
The same account said a prayer room inside a building and several civilian vehicles were damaged. Civil Defense teams responded and took emergency measures. The reported injury was caused by falling shrapnel, not a direct missile strike.
Who was responsible for the launch?
Saudi Gazette attributed the launch to the Houthi group, citing Saudi Civil Defense. That is the Saudi official account; independent confirmation of responsibility for this specific missile launch is not established in the reporting available here. No launch time, trajectory, or named independent investigation was reported.

Other reported missile incidents are separate
On October 2, Qatar News Agency reported that coalition spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Malki said a Houthi ballistic missile aimed at Khamis Mushait had been intercepted and destroyed. QNA also recalled the coalition’s report of two ballistic missiles aimed at Khamis Mushait and Jazan and four drones aimed at Khamis Mushait on Thursday. These were separate coalition-reported interceptions, not details of the Ahad Rafidah incident. Qatar News Agency’s October 2 report
Separately, Al Jazeera reported on October 1 that the Saudi-led alliance accused the Houthis of attacking an electricity distribution station in Medina earlier that week. The Houthis denied the accusation. The coalition said one transformer was put out of service without affecting the electricity network. That allegation is distinct from the Ahad Rafidah interception and injury. Al Jazeera’s October 1 report
