1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIn coverage dated October 1, 2026, Jim Cramer was reported to favor Akamai Technologies (NASDAQ: AKAM) over Cloudflare (NYSE: NET) and Fastly (NASDAQ: FSLY), citing its relative valuation and a major Anthropic agreement. That is a dated opinion, not a standing buy signal. The companies do show evidence of rising AI-related activity or demand, but traffic growth and a large contract do not by themselves establish future profit or stock returns.
Why these three companies are called internet traffic cops
Cloudflare, Akamai and Fastly operate infrastructure at the edge of the internet: their services help deliver content, connect users and applications, and manage or secure network traffic. As AI agents and other automated systems make more requests, that activity can increase demand for infrastructure. The investment question, however, is whether each company can turn the additional traffic or capacity into durable revenue and cash flow.
“AI traffic” is not one uniform category. Agent requests, crawlers, other automated requests and human traffic may be counted differently, and each company’s figures below describe activity on its own network—not a census of the whole internet.
What Cramer reportedly favored—and why
The October 1, 2026 coverage reported that Cramer considered Akamai the only one of the three he would buy at that time. It attributed his preference to Akamai’s valuation relative to the peers and its agreement to provide cloud-computing capacity to Anthropic. The underlying CNBC page was not directly accessible to the reporting, so this attribution should be understood as the report’s account, rather than a fully independently verified transcript. The valuation comparison is also tied to share prices and earnings estimates at that date; it can change as either moves.

What the AI-demand evidence shows
Cloudflare: more network activity, with a separate question about monetization
In a September 30, 2026 company blog, Cloudflare said its network handled an average of 63 million HTTP requests per second at the end of 2024 and nearly 115 million at the time of publication, with peak periods above 150 million. The company also reported that daily AI-agent requests on its network had grown by more than 1,700% over the preceding year. These are Cloudflare network measurements, not estimates for all internet traffic; the increase in requests alone does not show how much revenue or profit they generate. Cloudflare’s account of its network data explains the company’s framing.
Cloudflare’s financial results offer a different kind of evidence. For Q1 2026, it reported revenue of $639.8 million, up 34% year over year, and current remaining performance obligations (RPO) growth of 34% year over year. Those are historical results, not a forecast, and the release does not establish that AI traffic alone drove them. CEO Matthew Prince described AI as a major potential tailwind in the results announcement; that is management’s view, not independent proof of future growth. Cloudflare’s Q1 2026 results provide the reported figures.

Akamai: a substantial Anthropic commitment, subject to conditions
Akamai announced that Anthropic committed approximately $11.6 billion in aggregate under two project plans. Each plan has an initial seven-year term beginning on its service start date. The amount is a conditional commitment, not cash already received or revenue already recognized: Akamai’s filing describes delivery and service-availability requirements as well as termination provisions. Investors therefore need to assess whether Akamai can deliver the required capacity and services, what investment that requires, and how much of the contracted value ultimately becomes recognized revenue and cash flow. Akamai’s announcement and its Form 8-K describe the agreement and its terms.
Akamai CEO Tom Leighton said Anthropic chose Akamai’s capabilities for building and operating AI infrastructure at scale. That statement conveys management’s interpretation of the deal; the filing’s conditions and the execution still matter more to whether the commitment benefits shareholders.

Fastly: AI-request growth on its own network
Fastly reported that AI requests across its global network grew approximately 30% from January through May 2026, about 6.5 times the growth rate of human traffic in that same period. This is Fastly’s analysis of requests observed across its network—not a measure of all internet traffic. The company’s research also argues that organizations need ways to manage automated requests and machine interactions. The figure indicates activity growth, but does not by itself quantify Fastly’s AI-related revenue, margins or future cash flow. Fastly’s June 9, 2026 release outlines its findings.
How to compare the stocks beyond the AI narrative
The available figures are not directly interchangeable: Cloudflare reports request levels and agent-request growth over a year, while Fastly reports AI-request growth over January–May 2026. Akamai’s headline evidence is a conditional capacity agreement rather than a comparable traffic-growth rate. A useful investment comparison should keep those distinctions visible.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Conversion: Look for evidence that additional requests or committed capacity contribute to revenue, not just network activity.
- Profit and cash generation: Consider margins, capital expenditure and cash flow alongside sales growth. Infrastructure demand can require substantial investment before it produces attractive returns.
- Valuation: Compare each company using the same date and a consistent basis for share price, earnings expectations and growth. The October 1 report’s relative-value conclusion is time-sensitive.
- Contract and customer risk: For Akamai, weigh the contract’s conditions, delivery requirements and customer concentration against its scale.
- Execution and competition: Assess whether each firm can provide reliable, secure services as traffic patterns and customer needs evolve.
What the evidence supports—and what it does not
The evidence supports the narrower claim that AI-related traffic is growing on Cloudflare’s and Fastly’s networks, and that Akamai has disclosed a large, conditional Anthropic capacity commitment. It does not establish that AI traffic is growing at the same rate across the entire internet, that these companies will capture the same economic value from it, or that any stock is certain to outperform. Cramer’s reported preference for Akamai is best read as a dated view shaped by relative valuation and the Anthropic agreement, not as a substitute for assessing price, execution and risk at the time an investor makes a decision.
