Three Recent AI API Changes Developers Should Check Before Their Code Breaks

Google and Anthropic notices affect Gemini Omni Flash, Claude Sonnet 4.5, and Antigravity Agent. Here are the dates, identifiers, and code paths to check.

Three recent vendor notices create migration work for AI API users: Google’s Gemini Omni Flash preview endpoint has passed its stated deprecation date, Anthropic has scheduled Claude Sonnet 4.5’s API retirement for November 30, 2026, and Google’s Antigravity Agent preview changed parts of its tool-calling and file-edit interface. These notices do not all mean an endpoint is already unavailable. Check the exact identifier your code uses, then migrate and test the affected contract.

What changed, and when?

API or interface Vendor notice What the notice establishes Migration path
Gemini Omni Flash preview: gemini-omni-flash-preview Google announced Gemini Omni Flash general availability on August 27, 2026, as gemini-omni-1.1-flash; the preview endpoint’s deprecation date was September 30, 2026. Google Gemini API release notes The scheduled deprecation date has passed. The available notes do not establish that the endpoint was shut down for every account on that date. Move to the GA model identifier after checking its current availability and behavior in your account.
Claude Sonnet 4.5: claude-sonnet-4-5-20250929 Anthropic announced deprecation on September 30, 2026, and scheduled Claude API retirement for November 30, 2026. Anthropic Claude Platform release notes This is a migration notice, not evidence that the model currently fails. Anthropic recommends Claude Sonnet 5.5. Validate the replacement against your application before switching.
Antigravity Agent preview: antigravity-preview-05-2026 Google’s September 17, 2026, notes say it is replaced by antigravity-preview-09-2026; the older preview is scheduled to shut down October 5, 2026. Google Gemini API release notes The announcement falls just before September 19–October 3, the strict two-week window, but its upcoming shutdown makes it an immediately relevant adjacent migration. Update the agent identifier. If you execute local tools or parse function_call steps, also update parameter casing and file-edit handling, as described below.

A deprecation date and a shutdown are not interchangeable. Google’s Gemini deprecations documentation says deprecated services are no longer supported and will be shut down in the near future; a listed date is the earliest possible retirement date, and exact timing may be communicated later. Confirm the live status and account-specific behavior rather than treating a scheduled date as proof of a universal outage.

Gemini Omni Flash: replace the preview identifier

If your configuration still specifies gemini-omni-flash-preview, treat its September 30 deprecation date as a reason to check and migrate now. Google’s release notes identify gemini-omni-1.1-flash as the GA model. Search not only the main API call but also fallback lists, environment variables, deployment manifests, and any service that selects a model dynamically. The notes establish the replacement identifier and date, but not that every user’s preview endpoint was switched off on September 30.

Claude Sonnet 4.5: plan for the November retirement

Anthropic’s September 30 notice names claude-sonnet-4-5-20250929 and gives November 30, 2026, as its scheduled Claude API retirement date. The announcement is not itself a shutdown. Anthropic recommends Claude Sonnet 5.5; test the candidate model with your actual prompts, response handling, and operational requirements before changing production traffic.

Antigravity Agent: check how your client consumes tool calls

Google’s September 17 notes describe a change from antigravity-preview-05-2026 to antigravity-preview-09-2026, with the older preview scheduled to shut down October 5. The needed code changes depend on what your client does with the response:

Clients that execute local tools or parse function calls

  • Tool parameters changed from snake_case to PascalCase. Update any schema mapping, property lookup, validation, or dispatch code that assumes the earlier casing.
  • File edits changed from full-file rewrites to line-range replacements. Update parsers and edit-application logic that expect an entire replacement file.
  • Inspect parsed function_call steps as well as the tool invocation path; changing only the agent identifier may leave contract assumptions untouched.

Remote sandboxes that consume output text

Google’s notes say remote sandboxes that read only output_text or model_output need to update the agent identifier only. Confirm that your integration really ignores structured function calls and file-edit payloads before relying on that narrower change.

A focused migration checklist

  1. Find exact identifiers. Search source code, configuration, fallbacks, environment variables, and deployment settings for the affected model or agent IDs.
  2. Classify the notice. Record whether it is an announcement, a deprecation date, or a scheduled shutdown. For the two Google notices, consult the live deprecations page because dates and retirement timing can change.
  3. Map the contract. For Antigravity, determine whether your client invokes local tools, parses function_call structures, applies file edits, or reads output text only.
  4. Test in staging. Exercise the replacement identifier or interface with representative requests. Check response parsing, tool calls where applicable, retries, and rollback behavior; these are prudent integration checks, not vendor-reported test results.
  5. Verify before deployment. Recheck the vendor’s current release notes and retirement documentation immediately before rollout, then monitor errors after switching.

What the OpenAI changelog does—and does not—show

The OpenAI API changelog entries reviewed for September 29, 2026, document Agents API computer-use support and GPT-6.1 Sol. They do not substantiate a quiet breaking change to existing API behavior in that material. That is not proof that no OpenAI change exists elsewhere; it means these entries do not support adding one to this list. OpenAI API changelog
