There is no single best free email-automation platform. As checked on August 18, 2026, Sender offers the largest apparent combination of free subscribers, monthly sends and workflow access; Brevo is better for storing a large list when 300 daily sends is acceptable; MailerLite suits small businesses and creators; Omnisend is the ecommerce specialist; HubSpot is the CRM-first choice; and Mailchimp is now practical only for very small lists.

Best free tool by use case
Sender: strongest free automation allowance
Sender advertises a Free Forever plan for up to 2,500 subscribers and 15,000 monthly emails, with unlimited automation workflows. Its builder supports welcome, abandoned-cart, post-purchase and win-back sequences, making it the leading choice when workflow volume matters more than removing vendor branding. See the automation builder details.
Choose it when you can accept “Powered by Sender” branding and want ecommerce-capable flows without an immediate subscription. Verify the current detailed pricing table before relying on a specific trigger or integration.

Brevo: best for a large database and modest daily batches
Brevo’s free plan has no stated time limit and permits 300 email sends per day. Its contact allowance is much larger than the other small-list options, but the daily ceiling is decisive: a 1,000-recipient campaign cannot necessarily arrive on the same day. Brevo says the remainder may be delivered over subsequent days or require requeueing. Read the free-plan limits.
MailerLite: easiest small-business funnel
MailerLite’s current free plan includes 250 active subscribers, 2,500 monthly emails, two users and up to three visual automations, alongside forms, a landing page, website tools and reporting. The provider changed these limits in June 2026, with the new rules applying to all free accounts from August 13, 2026. Sending is locked when active subscribers exceed 250 until you remove contacts or upgrade. Details are on the free-plan FAQ and pricing page.
Omnisend: the ecommerce specialist
Omnisend includes its core automation features on the free plan and is designed around store events, segmentation and multichannel marketing. The allowance is only 500 emails per month, so it is mainly useful for testing a small store or validating a flow. Check the pricing page and its 2026 plan details for current contact and event rules.

HubSpot: choose the CRM, not the email quota
HubSpot Marketing Hub Free combines contact records, forms and CRM features with 2,000 branded marketing-email sends per calendar month. Its current pricing table lists one automated action, so it is suitable for a simple form follow-up but not equivalent to a multistep nurture system. Review Marketing Hub pricing before designing a sequence.

Mailchimp: only for very small lists
Mailchimp Free currently allows 250 contacts, 500 monthly sends and 250 sends per day. It can make sense when an existing integration or familiarity outweighs capacity, but it is a poor choice for generous free automation. See the current pricing table.
What “free email automation” actually means
Automation sends email because a rule, trigger or schedule fires, rather than requiring a manual broadcast each time. Genuine workflows can include:

Enjoy a reliable connection up to 33 feet. Note: You can't use both modes simultaneously; the USB receiver is stored in the mouse.
- 【Rechargeable Wireless Mouse】: Equipped with a 500mAh lithium-ion battery, it charges in 2 hours for over 7 days of use and 30 days on standby. The mouse sleeps after 5 minutes of inactivity to save power and can be woken with any click.
- 【Colorful LED Breathing Light】: Features 7 colorful LED lights that change randomly, adding a fun atmosphere to your workspace.

- 【Wide Compatibility】: Works with laptops, PCs, tablets, and smartphones across various operating systems, including Android, Windows, and Mac. Ideal for home, office, and travel.
- A form or signup trigger.

- Date-based reminders, re-engagement and win-back paths.
- Exit rules that stop promotion after purchase, reply, unsubscribe or conversion.
A newsletter broadcast, one scheduled campaign, a transactional-email API or a CRM reminder for a human is not the same as a multistep automated workflow. “Automation included” may still mean one action, a single autoresponder or no ecommerce events, so inspect the actual trigger, step and branch limits.
Subscriber limits versus send limits
A contact cap measures people stored; a send cap measures messages delivered or attempted. A 500-person welcome sequence followed by three 500-person follow-ups uses about 2,000 sends while the list remains 500 people. MailerLite explicitly counts each campaign and automation email toward its monthly allowance.
Monthly caps support concentrated bursts when the allowance is large. Daily caps support steady small batches but can break a launch schedule. Contact-based limits become expensive as a list grows; send-based limits can be economical for a large, mostly inactive database. “Unlimited contacts” on Brevo or Omnisend therefore does not mean unlimited practical use.

- Your hand can relax in comfort hour after hour with this ergonomically designed mouse. Its contoured shape with soft rubber grips, gently curved sides and broad palm area give you the support you need for effortless control all day long.
- You’ve got the control to do more, faster. Flipping through photo albums and Web pages is a breeze, especially for right-handers—with three standard buttons plus Back/Forward buttons that you can also program to switch applications, go full screen and more. And side-to-side scrolling plus zoom gives you the power to scroll horizontally and vertically through your music library, maps and Facebook feeds, and zoom in and out of photos and budget spreadsheets with a click.* * Requires Logitech SetPoint software (Windows) or Logitech Control Center software (Mac OS X)
- Two years of battery life practically eliminates the need to replace batteries. ** The On/Off switch helps conserve power, smart sleep mode extends battery life and an indicator light eliminates surprises. ** Battery life may vary based on user and computing conditions.
- The tiny Logitech Unifying receiver stays in your laptop. There’s no need to unplug it when you move around, so there’s less worry of it being lost. And you can easily add compatible wireless mice and keyboards to the same wireless receiver.
What beginners can build
Welcome sequence
- A visitor submits a permission-based form.
- Send confirmation or a lead magnet immediately.
- Wait one day and send a useful lesson.
- Wait two days and invite a product, consultation or newsletter action.
- Stop or reroute the sequence when the person purchases or converts.
Abandoned-cart flow
- Detect an abandoned cart.
- Wait one to four hours.
- Send a reminder.
- Wait one day and address a product benefit or objection.
- Optionally offer an incentive that fits your margin and policies.
This flow is more naturally supported by ecommerce tools such as Omnisend and Sender than by a general newsletter platform.
Re-engagement flow
- Segment subscribers who have not opened or clicked for a defined period.
- Ask whether they still want the content or want to change preferences.
- Suppress or remove nonresponsive addresses instead of mailing them repeatedly.
How to choose a platform
- List under 250, forms and a friendly editor: MailerLite.
- Up to 2,500 subscribers and 15,000 monthly emails: Sender, if branding is acceptable.
- Many stored contacts but no same-day blast: Brevo.
- Online store with purchase and cart events: Omnisend, provided 500 monthly emails is enough for testing.
- CRM, forms and one simple follow-up: HubSpot.
- Existing integration and no more than 250 contacts: Mailchimp.
Before signing up, check whether a credit card is required, whether unused allowance rolls over, how unsubscribed contacts count, whether SPF/DKIM/DMARC and a custom sending domain are available, what integrations work on the free tier, and whether contacts, consent history, tags and segments can be exported. Automation logic usually has to be rebuilt during migration.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Build a free welcome automation correctly
- Create or import a permission-based audience.
- Build a signup form and connect it to the intended audience or segment.
- Create a workflow and choose “contact joins audience,” “subscribes to list” or “form submitted.”
- Add the first email, delays, later messages and conditions.
- Set an exit rule for purchase, reply, unsubscribe or completion.
- Test with an address that has not already completed the workflow.
- Check personalization, links, timing, sender identity and unsubscribe controls.
- Activate the workflow, submit the live form and verify delivery.
With double opt-in enabled, the first message should follow confirmation. A contact should enter once, receive each delay at the intended time, and stop promotional mail after unsubscribing or reaching the conversion goal.

Common failures and recovery
The first email never arrives
- Confirm the workflow is active and the address is not already present, suppressed or unsubscribed.
- Check whether double opt-in is awaiting confirmation.
- Inspect spam, promotions and quarantine folders.
- Check daily or monthly limits and authenticate the sending domain.
Duplicate messages appear
- Check whether multiple forms add the contact to separate audiences.
- Ensure the trigger is first subscription rather than every form submission.
- Inspect integrations that repeatedly update the contact.
- Check whether re-entry is allowed after completion.
The workflow stops midway
- Review quota, contact consent, bounces and invalid addresses.
- Inspect branches with no matching condition and delays using the wrong timezone.
- For stores, confirm ecommerce events reach the platform.
- Check whether the free tier limits actions or steps.
Sending is locked
MailerLite locks sending above 250 active subscribers; remove active subscribers or upgrade. Brevo’s 300-per-day ceiling may split delivery across days rather than discard the campaign. See the provider explanations at MailerLite pricing and Brevo’s limits page.
Deliverability, compliance and channel boundaries
Free pricing does not guarantee inbox placement. Configure SPF and DKIM, use DMARC where appropriate, identify the sender clearly, maintain consent records, process unsubscribes and remove bounced or chronically inactive addresses. Comply with the laws applicable to your recipients: do not use purchased lists, misleading subjects or missing sender identification.
Marketing newsletters, abandoned-cart messages, receipts, password resets and application notifications have different requirements. A marketing automation platform is not automatically suitable for transactional email; API, SMTP, SMS credits and dedicated sending infrastructure may be separate products. SMS also requires its own consent.
Verdict
Start with Sender when free workflow capacity is the priority. Pick Brevo for a large database that can tolerate 300 sends per day. Use MailerLite for a small, form-led funnel, Omnisend for ecommerce events, HubSpot when the CRM matters most, and Mailchimp only when the list and send volume stay tiny. Recheck every limit immediately before migration: the MailerLite changes in 2026 show how quickly “free” terms can move.
