WHQL means Microsoft certification testing was completed. It is not a promise that every game, BIOS, monitor arrangement, or laptop implementation will be trouble-free.
Download 552.22 from NVIDIA
- Open NVIDIA’s driver selector: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx.
- Choose Product Type: GeForce, your exact product series and GPU model, then Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11.
- Set Download Type to Game Ready Driver.
- Confirm that the result is 552.22 WHQL and that the release date and supported-products list match your hardware.
- Download from NVIDIA or your laptop manufacturer’s support page. Avoid driver-updater advertisements and repackaged executable sites.
The desktop package is also identified by third-party listings as 552.22-desktop-win10-win11-64bit-international-dch-whql.exe; treat that filename as a recognition aid, not as a reason to bypass NVIDIA’s download page. See the cross-check at TechSpot.
What changed in Game Ready 552.22?
Game support
- Manor Lords received Game Ready support, including DLSS Super Resolution support.
- No Rest for the Wicked received launch support.
“Game Ready” describes driver preparation, profiles, and compatibility work. NVIDIA’s release page does not establish a universal frame-rate increase, so performance will vary by GPU, settings, game build, and system.

NVIDIA-documented fixes
- PUBG: stability problems during extended gameplay on systems using Intel 12th-generation platforms.
- GTX 10/RTX 20 freezes: random PC freezes when Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS) and NVIDIA SLI were both enabled.
- HTC Vive Pro 2: crashes or bugchecks after enabling the headset with multiple displays.
These are specific conditions listed by NVIDIA, not a guarantee that every crash or freeze is resolved. The complete release notes are on NVIDIA’s 552.22 page.
Supported GPUs and laptop compatibility
The Windows 11 product listing includes RTX 40 desktop models such as the RTX 4090, RTX 4080 SUPER, RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, RTX 4070 SUPER, RTX 4060 Ti, and RTX 4060, along with RTX 30, RTX 20, GTX 16, GTX 10, selected GTX 900 and GTX 700 models, and selected TITAN products including TITAN RTX, TITAN V, TITAN Xp, and Pascal TITAN cards. The exact list differs between desktop and notebook packages; verify the exact model in NVIDIA’s supported-products section at NVIDIA’s product listing.
NVIDIA’s stated policy at the time continued Game Ready coverage for Maxwell, Pascal, Turing, and Ampere systems. Desktop Kepler systems were receiving critical security updates through September 2024 rather than ongoing Game Ready feature updates. That historical policy should not be read as current support for every legacy card.

Notebook checks
NVIDIA offers generic notebook packages, but the laptop manufacturer may provide the preferred certified driver. Before installing, check:

Should you install 552.22 now?
Use it when
- A game or application is known to work correctly with 552.22.
- A later driver introduced a repeatable regression and you are testing a controlled rollback.
- A benchmark, review, lab, or troubleshooting report requires this exact version.
- You need the 2024 software environment or one of the documented fixes.
Prefer a newer driver when
- You are making a normal fresh installation in 2026.
- Your GPU was released after the 552.xx branch.
- You need current game profiles, operating-system support, application compatibility, or security maintenance.
Prefer the OEM package when
- Your laptop uses hybrid graphics or manufacturer-modified power and display paths.
- NVIDIA’s generic installer rejects the system.
- The OEM lists a model-specific stability or firmware fix.
If a stable machine has no relevant reason to change, avoiding an unnecessary update can also be sensible for an old application with a known driver dependency or for mission-critical production work that has not been tested on a new release.
Installation and verification
- Run the downloaded installer as administrator.
- Select Express Installation for a normal update, or Custom (Advanced) to choose components or perform a clean installation.
- Reboot when prompted.
- Confirm version 552.22 in NVIDIA App or GeForce Experience, NVIDIA Control Panel → Help → System Information, or Device Manager → Display adapters → your GPU → Properties → Driver.
Then test the game or application that motivated the installation. Check GPU selection, refresh rate, G-SYNC/VRR, normal clocks and utilization, and the absence of a Device Manager warning icon. A version number confirms installation, not that the underlying problem is solved.
When a clean install is justified
Use it for persistent crashes after several updates, corrupted NVIDIA settings, black screens or repeated driver resets, installation failures, or a major change in GPU configuration. Record your resolution, refresh rate, G-SYNC/VRR, per-game profiles, multi-monitor and color settings, and any overclock or undervolt first. A clean install resets settings; it does not automatically make a GPU faster.

Rollback and recovery
- Use Windows’ installed-app removal or Device Manager’s Roll Back Driver option when available.
- If normal removal fails, boot into Safe Mode and use a reputable display-driver cleanup utility.
- Reinstall the known-good package, reboot, and test with default GPU settings.
- Reapply custom settings one at a time.
Installer incompatibility
Recheck the exact GPU, Windows architecture, desktop versus notebook package, and Game Ready versus Studio choice. OEM restrictions, unsupported legacy hardware, or another NVIDIA/Windows installation in progress can also cause the message. Do not force-install an unrelated package.
Black screen
- Wait for display initialization and reboot once.
- Try
Win + Ctrl + Shift + Bto reset the Windows graphics driver. - Use Safe Mode if the display remains unusable, then roll back or remove the driver.
- Reinstall with default settings, one monitor connected, and GPU overclocks or undervolts removed.
Lower performance or stutter
Allow shader caches to rebuild, verify the game selected the discrete GPU, check that profiles and graphics settings were not reset, and disable overlays or recording features while testing. Compare the same resolution, settings, power mode, and stock GPU settings after a reboot; judge frame-time consistency as well as average FPS. If the regression is repeatable, return to the known-good driver. Laptop users should additionally inspect Windows graphics preference, Optimus mode, OEM performance mode, Resizable BAR, external-monitor routing, BIOS, and chipset drivers.

Discussion around the 552.22 family included early stability impressions, PUBG and laptop reports, and anecdotal Resizable BAR or stutter workarounds. Individual GPU models, laptop firmware, display paths, and game settings differ, so forum reports are troubleshooting leads rather than controlled tests or official fixes. A relevant discussion thread is the r/nvidia 552.22 discussion. The HAGS/SLI freeze, for example, concerns a specific configuration; users without SLI should not disable HAGS solely because it appears in the changelog.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is GeForce 552.22 still the latest driver?
No. It was released on April 16, 2024 and is historical as of August 18, 2026. Use a current NVIDIA or OEM driver for an ordinary new installation.
Does 552.22 support Windows 11?
Yes, the package supports Windows 11 and 64-bit Windows 10, subject to the exact GPU being listed.
Does WHQL guarantee better FPS or no bugs?
No. WHQL indicates Microsoft certification testing, not universal stability or a guaranteed performance gain.
Can I install it on a laptop?
Possibly, but check the laptop manufacturer’s certified package first. Hybrid graphics, display switching, power management, and firmware can require the OEM driver.
Why does NVIDIA’s installer say my system is incompatible?
Common causes include selecting the wrong GPU or Windows architecture, using the wrong desktop/notebook or Game Ready/Studio package, unsupported legacy hardware, OEM restrictions, or another installation still running.
