TikTok’s “Login failed” message is a symptom, not a diagnosis. The cause may be an outdated app, blocked connection, wrong sign-in method, rejected password, missing verification code, account restriction, compromised account, or a TikTok service problem. Start with the low-risk checks below, then follow the branch that matches where sign-in stops.
Quick fixes to try first
- Confirm that you are using the login method that originally created the account: phone, email, username, Apple, Google, Facebook, or another linked provider.
- Force-close TikTok and open it again.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data. If one works, the problem is probably local to the other network.
- Restart your phone.
- Update TikTok from the official App Store or Google Play listing.
- Temporarily disable a VPN, proxy, ad-blocking DNS, parental-control filter, or restrictive firewall.
- Try signing in at TikTok.com in a trusted mobile browser.
- If the app opens far enough, clear its cache.
- If TikTok rejects your credentials, reset the password rather than repeatedly retrying.
- Use TikTok’s support and recovery routes if access still fails.
TikTok’s own First steps guidance starts with a current app version and basic troubleshooting. Do not delete the app or change account details until these safer checks are complete.

Record the exact failure
Before changing anything, note the message and the point where the process stops. “Login failed,” “Something went wrong,” an incorrect-password warning, a missing code, a return to the login screen, “too many attempts,” a suspension notice, and a blank profile indicate different problems. Also note whether browser login works, whether another device works, and whether the account was logged out unexpectedly.
Use the original TikTok login method
Phone number
Enter the correct country or region code and the number originally linked to TikTok. A new number does not automatically replace the old one.

Email address
Try every address that might have been used, including an address associated with an older account. Search your mail for “TikTok” to identify the account’s original email.
Username
Your @username is not necessarily the email address used to sign in. Make sure you have not selected a similarly named account.
Apple, Google, Facebook, or another provider
Tap the same provider button used during registration and authenticate with the same Apple ID or Google, Facebook, or other provider account. Entering a TikTok password for a social-login account can create a failed-login loop. Apple’s Hide My Email may mean the TikTok account uses a relay address you do not recognize.
Do not tap Sign up when you mean to recover an existing profile. That can create a new, empty account instead of restoring your videos, followers, messages, drafts, or purchases.

If TikTok says your password is wrong
For a logged-out account, TikTok documents this reset path in its password help:
- Open TikTok and tap Use phone/email/username on the login screen.
- Select Email/Username.
- Tap Forgot password?
- Choose reset by phone number or email.
- Enter the verification code and create a new password.
Menu names can differ by app version, language, country, and whether you are already signed in. Request one code, wait for it, and use the newest code only. Repeated resend requests can make it unclear which code is current and may trigger additional security checks. Check that your password manager is not filling an old password.
When the verification code does not arrive
- Confirm the country code and phone number.
- Check cellular reception and whether your carrier blocks short-code SMS.
- Look in email spam, junk, promotions, and filtered folders; search for “TikTok.”
- Do not use a code from an earlier reset attempt.
- Try the other available method, such as email instead of SMS.
- Check whether TikTok is sending the code to an old number or address.
- Enable automatic date and time on the phone.
Delivery and recovery options vary by carrier, region, account state, and security controls. Never give a verification code or password to anyone claiming to be TikTok support.
Fix an app-only login problem
Use a browser test to separate an app or device fault from an account fault:

This table is a practical diagnostic framework, not a TikTok guarantee.
Android
- Open Settings → Apps → TikTok → Storage and tap Clear cache.
- Use Force stop, then reopen TikTok.
- Update Android System WebView and your browser if Apple, Google, or another social-login handoff fails.
- Check available storage and any permissions needed during authentication.
Do not immediately tap Clear storage or Clear data; it is more disruptive and removes local app state without fixing a wrong password or account restriction.
iPhone
- Try Settings → General → iPhone Storage → TikTok → Offload App, then reinstall it.
- If necessary, delete TikTok and reinstall it from the official App Store.
- Confirm that the Apple ID used for App Store downloads is working normally.
- If the failure occurs only with Apple or Google sign-in, recheck the provider account and authentication handoff.
iOS and Android menu names and behavior vary by version. Reinstalling can repair corrupted app state, but it does not restore a lost recovery method, remove a restriction, or recover an account by itself. Local drafts may not survive app deletion.
Check for an account restriction
If you can still access TikTok on another device or an existing session, Account Check can show account standing. TikTok lists the relevant status as Login: Restricted from logging in on its account-status page.

- TikTok Studio: Profile → Menu ☰ → TikTok Studio → More tools → Account check.
- Safety Center: Profile → Menu ☰ → Settings and privacy → Support → Safety Center → Account check.
A fully logged-out user may not be able to open Account Check. Availability and labels vary by app version, language, region, and account type.
If TikTok logged you out unexpectedly
An unexpected logout is not conclusive proof of hacking, but TikTok says an unauthorized attempt to remove an active device may cause an automatic logout and can indicate compromise. Treat the following as security warnings: a password that suddenly stops working, changed email, phone number, username, or profile photo, unknown videos or messages, unfamiliar follows, an unrequested login alert, or an unexpected reset message.
- Do not approve an unfamiliar login request.
- Reset the TikTok password through the official app or Help Center.
- Secure the associated email account first if it may also be compromised.
- Change passwords reused on other services.
- After access returns, review logged-in devices and remove unfamiliar sessions.
- Enable available protections such as two-step verification or a passkey.
- Report the compromise to TikTok.
Use only TikTok’s official Help Center. “Recovery” accounts on social media that ask for passwords or codes are common phishing attempts. See TikTok’s guidance on automatic logout in its Help Center search.

- Tap Menu ☰.
- Open Settings and privacy.
- Tap Report a problem.
- Choose Account and profile, then Login, and follow the relevant help path.
Details are in TikTok’s Report a problem instructions. Include:
- Your username, including the @ symbol.
- Former and current email or phone number, submitted privately rather than posted publicly.
- The approximate date the problem began.
- Device model, operating-system version, and TikTok version if known.
- Exact error text and the login method originally used.
- Screenshots with passwords and verification codes hidden.
- The steps already attempted.
If you are not logged in anywhere, use TikTok’s official Log in and troubleshooting Help Center and its available recovery options. Do not rely on invented support email addresses or promises of a guaranteed response time.
Could TikTok be experiencing an outage?
A single failed login does not establish that TikTok is down. Ask whether other people are reporting the same failure, test both app and browser, switch networks, and check TikTok’s official communications plus reputable outage-reporting services. If many users fail at once, stop repeatedly changing passwords and retry later. If other accounts work but yours does not, prioritize the login-method, recovery, security, and account-status checks above.
