How do I scrape Amazon product data to JSON? For an authorized Amazon seller application, use the Selling Partner API (SP-API) Catalog Items API. Call getCatalogItem with an ASIN and a marketplace ID, then request the data groups your application needs. The response is JSON, but the available fields depend on the item, marketplace, permissions and the includedData values you select.
“Amazon scraper API” can also mean a third-party service that extracts public storefront pages. That is a different model from SP-API. Amazon’s official interfaces are designed for sellers, vendors and their authorized business applications, not unrestricted anonymous scraping.
Choose the Amazon product-data API that matches your job
Amazon exposes several related SP-API areas. Choosing the wrong one produces missing data or an authorization error even when your code is valid.
| Task | API area | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Look up catalog information by ASIN | Catalog Items API | Attributes, identifiers, images, classifications, dimensions, product types, ranks, summaries and relationships. |
| Create or maintain your own seller listings | Listings API | Seller-SKU data, listing creation and updates, and product-type requirements. |
| Read prices and offers | Product Pricing API | Seller pricing and offer workflows. The documented current version is v2022-05-01 and requires the Pricing role. |
The Catalog Items API is the closest official answer to “Amazon product data API.” It does not guarantee a complete storefront record, customer reviews, buy-box history or every offer for every ASIN.

What getCatalogItem returns
The operation requires an ASIN in the path and one or more marketplace IDs in the query string. If you omit includedData, Amazon returns summaries by default. Request only the groups needed by your application:
attributes— structured item attributes keyed by attribute name and shaped by Amazon product-type definitions.classifications— browse-node classifications.dimensions— catalog dimensions.identifiers— identifiers such as UPC and EAN.images— catalog images.productTypes— associated product types.salesRanks— catalog sales ranks.summaries— summary information.relationships— relationships such as variation links.
Fields are conditional. A product can lack an identifier, image set, rank or relationship in a particular marketplace, so deserialize optional properties and preserve the raw JSON for auditing.
Prerequisites and access boundaries
SP-API access is tied to a selling partner and an authorized application. Amazon states: “You must have a Professional selling account and be the primary account user to create an SP-API developer profile.” The seller page listed the Professional account at $39.99 per month plus selling fees when this information was reviewed in 2026; check Amazon’s current seller pricing before buying a plan.
Private and public applications
- Private application: a seller can self-authorize it through the developer console for that seller account.
- Public application: obtains partner permission through OAuth 2.0 and Login with Amazon (LWA), then requests the roles required by its operations.
Roles determine which resources your application can call. Catalog access, listing management and pricing access should be treated as separate permission questions. Do not assume that approval for one area grants access to another.
Marketplace is part of the identity
An ASIN alone is not a complete lookup. Pass the marketplace ID that defines the country or region whose catalog you want. Keep marketplace IDs explicit in your database because the same product can have different attributes, images, classifications and availability between marketplaces.
How to call Catalog Items and save JSON
SP-API requests require an LWA access token and AWS Signature Version 4 signing. The examples below show the request shape; your signing library must generate the final Authorization, x-amz-date and related headers.
HTTP request shape
GET /catalog/2022-04-01/items/{ASIN}?marketplaceIds={MARKETPLACE_ID}&includedData=summaries,attributes,images,identifiers
Use the regional SP-API endpoint appropriate to your selling partner account, sign the request with your AWS credentials, and send the LWA token in the authorization flow required by your application. Never put client secrets, refresh tokens or AWS keys in browser code.
cURL after signing
curl -X GET
'https://sellingpartnerapi-na.amazon.com/catalog/2022-04-01/items/B000123456?marketplaceIds=ATVPDKIKX0DER&includedData=summaries,attributes,images,identifiers'
-H 'x-amz-access-token: YOUR_LWA_ACCESS_TOKEN'
-H 'Authorization: AWS4-HMAC-SHA256 ...'
-H 'x-amz-date: 20260930T000000Z'
The illustrative ASIN and marketplace ID must be replaced with values you are authorized to query. The AWS signature is deliberately represented by an ellipsis; a literal incomplete signature will fail.

const q = new URLSearchParams({
marketplaceIds: 'ATVPDKIKX0DER',
includedData: 'summaries,attributes,images,identifiers'
});
const res = await fetch(`https://sellingpartnerapi-na.amazon.com/catalog/2022-04-01/items/${asin}?${q}`, {

}
});
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`${res.status}: ${await res.text()}`);
const item = await res.json();
console.log(JSON.stringify(item, null, 2));
Turn the response into a stable application model
Amazon’s response is useful as a source document, but your internal schema should separate stable identifiers from optional presentation data.
- Store the ASIN, marketplace ID, retrieval timestamp and raw response.
- Normalize identifiers into an array because products can have multiple identifier types.
- Keep localized text and units instead of assuming one language or measurement system.
- Represent images as an ordered collection; do not assume a single primary image.
- Keep variation relationships as links to other ASINs rather than flattening them into one row.
- Record which
includedDatagroups were requested so an absent field is not confused with an unavailable field.
For seller listings, use Catalog Items for discovery, Product Type Definitions for the JSON schema required by a product type, and Listings API operations for creating or updating seller SKUs. For prices, call Product Pricing rather than treating catalog attributes as live offers.
Throughput, batching and freshness
The getCatalogItem reference displays a default usage plan of 2 requests per second with a burst of 2. This is an operation-level default, not an immutable quota for every account; Amazon may assign higher throughput to some selling partners and returns rate-limit information when available.

- Use a token-bucket limiter below the documented rate and adapt when a response indicates throttling.
- Retry 429 responses with exponential backoff and jitter; cap retries and preserve the failed ASIN for later replay.
- Cache records by ASIN and marketplace, with a freshness policy appropriate to your use case.
- Request narrow datasets instead of every group when a job only needs summaries or identifiers.
- For large jobs, investigate the platform’s batch and bulk patterns. Amazon describes batches of up to 20 similar requests, while feeds and reports support bulk workflows; verify that the specific operation supports the pattern before implementing it.
Catalog data is not the same as real-time price data. Schedule separate pricing refreshes and label timestamps in downstream systems.
Common errors and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| 401 or 403 | Expired LWA token, invalid SigV4 signature, missing role or seller authorization. | Refresh the token, verify the signing region/host and confirm the application has the Catalog Items role for the selling partner. |
| 400 validation error | Missing marketplace ID, malformed ASIN or invalid includedData. |
Send a valid marketplace ID, check the path and use only documented dataset names. |
| 404 or no item | The ASIN is not present in that marketplace or is not visible to the authorized context. | Check the marketplace, spelling and authorization; do not silently substitute another regional catalog. |
| 429 throttling | Requests exceed the operation’s usage plan. | Throttle, honor retry guidance, use backoff and review the current usage plan. |
| Missing images or attributes | The dataset was not requested or the field does not apply to that item. | Add the relevant includedData value and handle optional fields. |
| Price absent from catalog JSON | Catalog and offer data are separate. | Use the seller-authorized Product Pricing API and its required role. |
Or skip the browser setup
If what you actually need is a visual snapshot of an Amazon page rather than authorized catalog JSON, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request returns PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF. It accepts cookie and consent banners like a visitor, removes more than 60 known consent platforms plus newsletter popups and chat widgets, and lets you turn each cleanup step off. Bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed; response headers identify the page verdict and whether the request was billed.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000123456 -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for options such as full-page capture, CSS selectors, device presets, dark mode, custom JavaScript, request blocking, cookies, headers, geolocation, PDFs, caching, signed links, webhooks and bulk capture. Its MCP tools—take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf—let Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients capture pages without you wiring up a browser.
The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account.
When a third-party scraper is the better fit
A third-party Amazon scraper API may be appropriate when you need public storefront extraction without seller authorization, but evaluate it as a separate service category. Compare marketplace coverage, fields, JSON structure, freshness, throughput, throttling, terms, pricing and support. Do not assume a provider has permission to collect every page or that its data can be used for every commercial purpose. The official SP-API route is the defensible starting point when you control a seller account and need seller-authorized catalog, listing or pricing data.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get product details by ASIN without a marketplace ID?
No. The Catalog Items request requires both the ASIN path parameter and a marketplace ID query parameter.
Can Catalog Items return customer reviews?
The documented catalog datasets cover attributes, classifications, dimensions, identifiers, images, product types, sales ranks, summaries and relationships; reviews are not listed among those groups.
Is Product Advertising API the same as SP-API?
No. Product Advertising API has separate eligibility and quota rules and is distinct from the seller-oriented Selling Partner API.
