Use Meta Ads Manager’s ad-level preview before you publish. Open the ad you are editing, choose the preview control, and inspect each available placement for cropping, text or headline cutoffs, creative format, and mobile rendering. Placement choices themselves are made at the ad-set level, so check that level first, then return to the ad for the visual review. Meta calls its richer review mode Advanced Preview; a separate Preview on device option is documented only for a narrower Horizon OS app-ad workflow, so its availability should not be assumed for every Facebook campaign.
How do I preview my Facebook ad before publishing?
Build the campaign normally, but stop before the final publish action. In Ads Manager, move to the Ad level, open the ad’s preview controls, and inspect every placement that your ad set can use. The exact button wording and available previews can vary by campaign objective, creative type, account and placement.
- Choose the ad set. Confirm whether the ad set uses Advantage+ placements or manual placements. Meta’s Reels guidance places this decision in the Placements section at the ad-set level and describes manual placement selection with checkboxes. Meta’s placement guidance explains the distinction.
- Open the ad. Select the ad that contains the image, video, primary text, headline, description and destination URL. Do not rely on the campaign-level summary; the actual rendering is attached to the creative at ad level.
- Open the preview. Use the preview control shown beside the creative or in the ad editor. If your account offers Advanced Preview, use it to cycle through the available placements and look for text or headline cutoffs. Meta specifically describes Advanced Preview as a way to see how an ad may appear to users and catch those cutoffs. Meta’s Advanced Preview documentation is the relevant reference, although its surrounding example concerns Horizon OS app advertising.
- Switch placements. Review the feed, Stories, Reels and any other placements that the ad set can deliver to. A creative that looks correct in a square feed slot can lose important content in a taller vertical placement.
- Check the destination. Follow the preview’s call-to-action or link where your workflow permits. Confirm that the visible promise in the ad matches the landing page, that the URL is correct and that tracking parameters have not been lost.
- Save changes and repeat. If you edit text, media, crop, thumbnail or placement asset customization, reopen the preview. Treat each material edit as a new visual review.
Meta can update Ads Manager labels and preview availability. If a control described above is absent, use the preview control that your ad editor exposes rather than assuming that a hidden or discontinued button exists.
What to inspect in the preview
Placement and crop
Start with the part of the image or video that remains visible in each placement. Look for faces, product details, logos and text that sit too close to an edge. Compare the creative’s focal point in the intended feed, Story and Reels versions. If you use manual placements, verify every checked placement; if you use Advantage+ placements, inspect the range of previews Ads Manager makes available because delivery is delegated across a broader set of placements. Meta describes Advantage+ as allowing delivery across a range of placements, while manual placements let the advertiser select placements with checkboxes. See Meta’s Reels placement explanation.

Primary text, headline and description
Read the first lines exactly as a person would see them, including any truncation or “See more” treatment. Make the essential qualification, price condition or deadline appear before the cutoff. Advanced Preview is especially useful here because Meta identifies text and headline cutoffs as issues it can help reveal. Do not assume that a line break in the editor will survive in every placement.
Creative format
Confirm that the selected image, video, thumbnail, carousel card or placement-specific asset is the one you intended. Check the opening frame of video, the legibility of captions, the order of carousel cards and the relationship between media and call-to-action. Meta’s Reels guidance discusses adding creative at the ad level and customizing assets by placement; use those controls when a single source asset does not fit every surface.
Brand and compliance details
- Check that the page identity, profile image and sponsored label appear as expected.
- Verify spelling, capitalization, offer dates, currency and required disclaimers.
- Make sure the call-to-action describes the destination accurately.
- Review contrast and small text on a phone-sized preview, not only on a large desktop monitor.
- Confirm that a video still communicates its point with sound off when captions are expected.
Advantage+ placements versus manual placements
| Approach | Who chooses placements? | How to preview | Best review question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Advantage+ placements | Meta can deliver across a range of placements. | Inspect every placement preview that Ads Manager exposes for the ad. | Does the creative remain understandable when the surface and aspect ratio change? |
| Manual placements | The advertiser selects placements with checkboxes at ad-set level. | Preview each checked placement, then remove any surface where the creative fails. | Is each selected placement intentional and properly cropped? |
The table describes the control model, not a performance prediction. Choosing manual placements does not guarantee better results, and Advantage+ does not guarantee that every available surface will look identical. The practical difference is how much placement choice you delegate before you inspect the resulting creative.
Can I preview the ad on a phone?
Sometimes, but do not treat device-preview controls as universal. Meta’s developer guidance documents a Preview on device feature for a test ad on iOS Facebook Feed in the context of Horizon OS app advertising. That documentation does not establish that every standard Facebook campaign, objective, account or format offers the same control. If your editor displays a device-preview option, use it to check touch-sized text, safe areas and the first screenful. If it does not, use the placement previews available in your account and test the public destination separately on a real phone.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
A device preview is still an inspection aid, not a promise that every live impression will match one particular handset. Screen size, operating-system UI, placement, personalization and later Meta rendering changes can alter the final appearance.
A pre-publish inspection checklist
- Audience context: Read the ad as someone unfamiliar with your brand. Is the offer understandable without internal campaign language?
- First impression: In the first visible lines and opening media frame, can a viewer tell what is being offered?
- Crop safety: Are logos, faces, prices and product edges inside the safe area for every selected placement?
- Text fit: Are the headline and primary text still complete or meaningful when truncated?
- Media quality: Is the correct asset selected, with a sharp image, readable captions and an intentional thumbnail?
- Link behavior: Does the call-to-action lead to the intended page, and does that page repeat the same offer and terms?
- Mobile usability: Can a person read and tap the important elements on a narrow screen?
- Policy-sensitive wording: Are claims, prices, health statements, dates and disclaimers consistent everywhere they appear?
- Version control: After every material edit, reopen the preview instead of relying on an earlier screenshot.
Why the preview may not match a live impression
Preview controls show an expected rendering for the selected creative and placement. The available sources do not promise a pixel-perfect representation of every live impression, device or placement. A person may see a different crop, surrounding interface, personalization or delivery context. Use the preview to catch preventable mistakes—especially cutoffs and wrong assets—rather than as a guarantee of one immutable live layout.
Keep a record of the approved creative, copy and destination URL. That makes it easier to compare a live report or user-submitted image with the version you actually approved if the ad later changes.
Troubleshooting preview problems
The preview control is missing
Check that you are editing an ad, not only the campaign or ad set. Some formats and objectives expose different controls, and Meta can change labels. Save the creative, reopen the ad editor and look for a preview area near the media or identity settings. If no preview is offered, use the rendered placement shown in the editor and verify the destination independently.

Review Placements at the ad-set level. With manual placements, an unchecked placement will not be part of the delivery set. With Advantage+ placements, Ads Manager may expose only the previews supported by that creative and account. Do not infer that an absent preview means the ad will appear exactly like another placement.
Text or a headline is cut off
Rewrite the opening so the essential message appears first, shorten the headline, or create a placement-specific version. Reopen Advanced Preview after saving. Avoid putting a required condition only at the end of a long primary-text paragraph.
Rank #3
The image looks zoomed or the subject is clipped
Move the focal subject away from the edges, upload an aspect ratio suited to the placement, or use asset customization where the editor supports it. Preview the revised asset in every selected surface; correcting one crop can expose a problem in another.
The video starts on an unhelpful frame
Choose a stronger thumbnail or opening frame, add readable captions and replay the preview with sound muted. Confirm that the first seconds still communicate the offer before a viewer taps for audio.
The destination does not open as expected
Copy the destination URL from the ad editor and test it in a private browser window and on a phone. Check redirects, login requirements, mobile layout and that the offer shown on the landing page matches the ad. A visually correct preview cannot repair a broken destination.

If you have a public landing page or a shareable, unauthenticated preview URL that you want to archive, ScreenshotNeo can return a screenshot or PDF with one GET request. It is not a replacement for Meta Ads Manager’s authenticated creative preview; use Ads Manager to approve the ad itself. Use ScreenshotNeo for the public page a viewer reaches, a campaign landing page, or a preview URL that does not require a login.
Before capture, ScreenshotNeo accepts the cookie or consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Only clean shots are billed: bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits cost nothing, and each response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
Replace the example URL with your public ad destination. The complete option list and parameter reference are in the ScreenshotNeo documentation.

You can also request full-page captures with lazy images loaded, select one element by CSS selector, set a device or viewport, use dark mode or retina scale, add custom CSS or JavaScript, wait for a selector, delay or network idle, block ads or resource types, send cookies or headers, set timezone or geolocation, create PDFs, resize images, cache with a chosen TTL, generate signed links, submit asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, capture up to 100 URLs per bulk call and query usage through its API. Those options are useful for documenting the destination experience, but they do not grant access to a private Ads Manager account.

Final approval sequence
- Confirm placements at ad-set level.
- Open the ad-level preview and inspect every available rendering.
- Fix crop, cutoff, asset, policy-text or destination problems.
- Save, reopen and recheck after each material change.
- Approve the final creative internally, then publish only when the selected placements and public destination agree.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a screenshot API to preview a private Ads Manager draft?
Not unless the URL is publicly accessible. ScreenshotNeo captures web URLs; it does not log into your private Meta Ads Manager workspace. Use Ads Manager’s own preview for the draft and ScreenshotNeo for a public destination or shareable preview URL.
Should I create separate creative files for different placements?
Create placement-specific versions when the original crop, text layout or opening frame cannot remain clear across the placements you selected. Otherwise, one adaptable asset may be sufficient; let the previews decide.
What should I archive after approval?
Keep the approved copy, media files, destination URL and the placement previews or screenshots used for sign-off. This gives your team a reference if the live rendering or landing page later changes.
