For a small-business WordPress site, a reasonable 2026 planning range is $35–$145 per month for a managed maintenance plan. Busier sites, WooCommerce stores and plans promising faster response are commonly listed at $150–$300 or more per month. These figures come from a vendor-published guide, not an independent market survey; another provider advertises plans starting at $49 per month.
The right price depends less on the headline fee than on what the provider actually does: updates, backups, security response, hosting, testing, recovery and support limits.
What WordPress maintenance includes
“Maintenance” is not a standardized product. A low-cost plan may only run updates, while a higher-priced service may include monitoring, staging, malware cleanup, hosting and hands-on fixes. Before comparing prices, identify which of these are included:
- WordPress core, plugin and theme updates
- Human review, staging or visual checks after updates
- Backups, off-site storage, retention and restore assistance
- Security scanning, monitoring and malware cleanup
- Hosting, SSL and server administration
- Emergency response and stated response times
- Content edits, troubleshooting or development hours
- Premium plugin or theme licenses
Two plans with the same monthly fee can therefore provide very different protection.

2026 price ranges and what they represent
| Service or situation | Published figure | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Small-business managed plan | $35–$145 per month | Range estimated by Website Maintenance in a guide dated May 21, 2026; it is a vendor estimate, not a representative market average. |
| Busier site, WooCommerce store or faster response | $150–$300+ per month | The same guide’s higher examples; actual pricing depends on scope, traffic, integrations and response commitments. |
| Advertised provider starting price | From $49 per month | WebFixit’s advertised entry point. It is not directly comparable without checking site count, hosting, support limits and exclusions. |
| Freelance maintenance | $50–$150 per hour | Website Maintenance’s broad estimate for freelancer labor; your total depends on hours needed and whether emergency work costs extra. |
No independent, representative 2026 survey establishes a universal WordPress maintenance price. Treat these numbers as budgeting references and published offers, not guarantees or an industry average.
Choose a budget by site type and risk
brochure or low-change business site
A simple site with few integrations may fit the lower end of the managed range if it receives regular updates, verified backups and basic security monitoring. Confirm that someone investigates failed updates rather than merely clicking an update button.
Frequently updated business site
Frequent content changes, forms, analytics, email integrations or custom code increase the value of staging, post-update checks and a clear rollback process. A mid-range plan can be reasonable when it includes documented response times and restore help.

Membership site or online store
WooCommerce, subscriptions, payment gateways and customer accounts make downtime and update conflicts more consequential. The $150–$300+ examples are relevant as planning references, but obtain a quote based on your actual extensions, transaction volume and recovery requirements.
Hosting and maintenance are different purchases
WordPress.com hosted plans bundle hosting and some protection features. With a self-hosted WordPress.org site, the owner remains responsible for choosing hosting and arranging security and maintenance. A maintenance company may manage the site while your hosting remains with another provider, or it may require you to use its hosting.
Ask explicitly whether the quoted fee includes:
- Web hosting and server resources
- SSL certificate management
- Daily or more frequent backups
- Security monitoring and incident response
- Performance work and server-level troubleshooting
Backup and restore capabilities vary among hosted plans, so never assume that “managed hosting” includes a tested, hands-on recovery service.

Backups and updates: the questions that matter
WordPress.org recommends keeping a reliable backup before enabling plugin and theme auto-updates so you can roll back a failed update. Automatic updates depend on scheduled WordPress Cron tasks, which can fail or behave differently in some configurations.
For any plan, ask:
- How often are backups created?
- Are copies stored off-site and protected from the production server?
- How long are backups retained?
- Who receives an alert when a backup job fails?
- Are restores tested, and is a real restore included in the fee?
- Who pays for emergency restoration and how quickly does it begin?
A provider that says “backups included” but cannot explain retention, monitoring and restoration is not offering a clearly defined recovery service.
Compare the update workflow, not just update frequency
“Weekly updates” can mean unattended automation or a controlled process. Compare whether the provider:
- Creates or verifies a recent restorable backup.
- Applies updates in staging or another controlled environment when appropriate.
- Checks key pages, forms, checkout and logins afterward.
- Rolls back or fixes conflicts when an update breaks a feature.
- Documents what changed and reports unresolved issues.
GoWP describes per-site services such as updates, backups, security scans and monitoring. WebFixit advertises human review and staging. These examples demonstrate why feature names alone do not make plans equivalent; read the operational details and limits.
Read limits, exclusions and renewal terms
Request a written scope that states:
- Number of sites covered and whether staging sites count
- Support channels and response targets
- Included content edits or development time
- Malware cleanup and incident fees
- Premium software licenses and their renewal responsibility
- Emergency, weekend and out-of-hours pricing
- Hosting requirements, migration fees and cancellation terms
- Initial setup charges and the full renewal price
Without these details, a low monthly price may simply exclude the work you are most likely to need after a failure.
When hourly help or DIY makes sense
Hourly support can suit an infrequently changed brochure site with an owner who can monitor updates and maintain independent backups. The published $50–$150-per-hour estimate is only a broad vendor reference; compare the likely number of hours, availability and emergency premium with a fixed plan.
For DIY backups, the WordPress.org UpdraftPlus listing describes manual or scheduled backups, restore and migration. It identifies automatic backup before updates as a Premium feature. A backup plugin handles backup tasks; it does not replace update testing, security response, hosting administration or troubleshooting.
A practical quote-comparison checklist
- Describe your site: brochure, actively edited business site, membership platform or store.
- List every critical function: forms, checkout, subscriptions, bookings, logins and integrations.
- Separate hosting, SSL, backups, updates, security and development in the quote.
- Verify backup frequency, off-site destination, retention, failure alerts, restore testing and restore fees.
- Ask how updates are reviewed, tested and rolled back.
- Confirm support limits, emergency response, malware handling and included labor.
- Compare the complete first-year and renewal cost, not only the advertised starting price.
Bottom line on a fair 2026 price
Use $35–$145 per month as an initial budgeting range for a small-business managed plan, and investigate $150–$300+ per month when the site is busier, transactional or requires faster response. A $49 starting offer may be suitable or inadequate depending on its scope. The fair price is the one that gives your site an appropriate update process, a genuinely restorable backup, defined security and recovery help, and support limits you can accept.
