You can add opening hours to WordPress with a simple hours table or use a plugin for split shifts, holiday exceptions, open-now status, multiple locations, or structured data. Whichever method you choose, keep the hours visible on your site and maintain your Google Business Profile separately.
Choose a method that fits your schedule
A single-location business with a stable weekly schedule can use a table in a WordPress page. A plugin is more useful if you need recurring split hours, special dates, temporary closures, an automatic open/closed indicator, reusable output, or business-profile structured data.
| Option | Best for | How it appears | Hours and locations | Structured data |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WordPress block or table | A simple schedule for one location | Content added in the editor | Changes and additional locations are maintained manually | Depends on your theme or another plugin; the table itself does not establish that structured data is present |
| We’re Open! | Shortcodes, widgets, status text, or optional Google synchronization | Shortcode or widget | Supports regular and special hours and temporary closures; verify current multiple-location support before choosing | Schema.org support is documented by the plugin listing |
| Five Star Business Profile and Schema | A contact card alongside local business information | Gutenberg Contact Card block or [contact-card] shortcode |
Supports schedules and exceptions; documentation describes separate location data | Structured data for contact cards, hours, exceptions, and locations is documented |
| Forge Business Info | A business-info block, shortcodes, and timezone-aware status | Block or shortcodes | Supports split and special hours; its listing says version 1 does not support multiple locations | LocalBusiness JSON-LD is documented |
Prepare the hours before editing WordPress
Write down the customer-facing schedule for every day, including separate periods when the business closes between shifts. Note holiday or seasonal exceptions, temporary closures, and services or departments with different hours. These details determine whether a simple table will be manageable or whether you need a plugin that handles exceptions.
For Google Business Profile, Google advises businesses to provide regular customer-facing hours and use special hours for particular days, such as holidays or special events. See Google’s business representation guidelines.

Add a simple schedule with WordPress blocks
- Open the page where customers should find your hours, or create a page such as “Contact” or “Visit us.”
- In the WordPress editor, add a Table block. Label the columns clearly, for example, “Day” and “Hours.”
- Enter each day’s customer-facing hours. For a lunch closure, show both periods in the same day’s cell, such as “9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. and 2:00–6:00 p.m.”
- For a closed day, write “Closed.” If hours vary on holidays or seasonally, add a clearly labeled note or update the page when the schedule changes.
- Preview the page on desktop and mobile, publish or update it, and check that the schedule is easy to find and read.
This approach is straightforward, but it does not automatically calculate whether the business is open now or apply date-specific exceptions. Those changes must be maintained in the page.
Use a plugin for recurring hours, exceptions, or status
We’re Open!
The plugin listing documents shortcodes and widgets, regular and special hours, temporary closures, conditional text, and Schema.org support. Its optional Google synchronization requires a Google API key, Place ID, and billing account, according to the listing. Install it from the WordPress Plugins screen, configure its settings, then add its shortcode to a page or use its widget. Review the listing for current setup details and capabilities before relying on it for multiple locations.

Five Star Business Profile and Schema
Its documented setup is to open Business Profile in the WordPress admin, choose a schema type, enter company contact information, set the location schedule and opening hours, and save. Then add the Contact Card Gutenberg block or the [contact-card] shortcode to the page. The plugin documents opening-hours exceptions and separate location data.
Forge Business Info
Open Settings > Business Info, enter the business details, and add its Gutenberg block or the [forge_business_info] shortcode to a page. The listing also documents [forge_hours], [forge_location], and [forge_status]. Forge supports split and special hours and says its status calculation is timezone-aware. Its listing says version 1 does not support multiple locations.

Enter split and special hours accurately
For split shifts, enter both periods on the same weekday rather than implying continuous availability. Keep ordinary weekly hours separate from holiday, seasonal, and temporary exceptions when the plugin supports them, so an exception can override the normal schedule. If the tool offers a timezone setting, set the business’s timezone so any displayed status is calculated against local time.
Check the public page after saving: the visible schedule should match the business’s actual customer-facing hours, including exceptions. If the plugin creates a separate status message or widget, confirm it does not conflict with the schedule shown elsewhere on the page.

Structured data is machine-readable information; it does not replace a visible schedule for visitors. Schema.org defines openingHours as a weekly time range, with two-letter weekday codes and 24-hour times. For example, Tu,Th 16:00-20:00 describes Tuesday and Thursday hours from 16:00 to 20:00. See the Schema.org openingHours specification.
Plugins may add structured data, but do not assume that a visible table has done so. If your plugin emits LocalBusiness JSON-LD or other business schema, ensure its business name, address, phone number, timezone, regular hours, and applicable exceptions agree with the visible information. Forge documents JSON-LD that includes weekly hours, special or holiday dates, and split hours; Five Star documents structured data for contact cards, hours, exceptions, and multiple locations.

Keep Google Business Profile in sync
WordPress and Google Business Profile are separate places to manage business information. In Google Business Profile, set main hours for normal operation, special hours for holidays or temporary periods, and “more hours” for distinct services where applicable. Google explains how to edit business hours; its representation guidelines also explain when standard hours may not fit businesses with varied schedules or appointment-only operations, including examples such as schools, movie theaters, transportation services, and event venues.
The We’re Open! listing documents an optional Google synchronization feature, but it is an integration choice rather than a substitute for checking both profiles. After setup, review special and temporary exceptions in each place so customers do not see conflicting hours.
