Save a full-page capture to Photos as an image or to Files as a PDF. For a normal screenshot, the image is saved automatically in Photos.
1. Open the link in Safari
Tap the website link you received. If it opens in another app, choose the option to open it in Safari, or copy the URL and paste it into Safari’s address and search field. You can also touch and hold a link in Safari to display its preview; tap the preview to open it, or choose Open if you want to load the page normally.
Wait until the page content you need has loaded. If images, menus or embedded content are still appearing, a capture may show an incomplete page. Scroll through the page once if you need Safari to load lazy images farther down.
2. Take the screenshot
iPhone models with Face ID
- Press and release the Side button and Volume Up button at the same time.
- Do not hold the buttons. A quick press creates the screenshot and leaves the page open.
iPhone models with a Home button
- Press and release the Side button and the Home button together.
- Release both buttons immediately after pressing them.
The screen flashes and a thumbnail appears briefly in the lower-left corner. If you miss the thumbnail, the ordinary screenshot is still saved automatically.

3. Capture the visible screen or the entire webpage
Visible-screen screenshot
Do nothing after the thumbnail appears, or tap it if you want to mark it up. This captures exactly what was visible at the moment you pressed the buttons, including the Safari address bar or any open menu.
Full-page Safari screenshot
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail before it disappears.
- At the top of the editor, select Full Page.
- Use the page preview or scroll bar to inspect the capture. Safari can include content below the current screen.
- Drag the crop handles if you want to remove part of the page.
- Choose the save control and select whether to save the full-page result to Photos as an image or to Files as a PDF.
Apple’s screenshot workflow specifically uses an entire Safari webpage as the example for Full Page. The option appears only when the app supports a full-page capture; Safari webpages do.
When Full Page is not the right choice
- Use a normal screenshot for a single error message, form state or visible design detail.
- Use Full Page when the reader needs one long visual record of a webpage.
- Use a PDF when the result will be printed, annotated as a document or stored with other files.
4. Save, share and find the file
Save an image to Photos
From the full-page editor, choose the option to save the capture to Photos. A regular screenshot is saved to Photos automatically unless you delete it from the preview. In Photos, open Collections, then Media Types, and choose Screenshots to see your captures.
Save a full-page PDF to Files
In the full-page editor, choose the option to save the capture as a PDF and select a location in Files. Pick a folder in iCloud Drive or On My iPhone, name the document, and tap Save. A PDF is useful when the webpage is too long for a convenient image or when you need text and annotations to remain in a document.
Share immediately
Use the share control in the screenshot editor to send the image or PDF through Messages, Mail, AirDrop or another installed app. If you need to preserve the complete webpage, confirm that you are sharing the full-page PDF or full-page image rather than the visible-screen preview.
5. Make a webpage PDF through Safari’s Share menu
Safari also has a document-oriented route that is separate from the button screenshot shortcut:
Rank #3
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Open the page menu and tap Share.
- Choose Markup.
- Add highlights, drawings or other annotations if needed.
- Tap Done, then choose Save File To and select a folder.
This produces an annotated webpage PDF. The position of the Share control can differ depending on Safari’s tab layout and your iOS version, so use the page menu shown on your device.
6. Choose the method by outcome
| Need | Best method | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Only what is visible now | Button shortcut, then leave the thumbnail alone | Image in Photos |
| One image of a long Safari page | Screenshot thumbnail > Full Page > save to Photos | Scrollable full-page image |
| A document to annotate or file with project records | Full Page and save to Files as PDF | Full-page PDF |
| Annotated webpage document | Safari page menu > Share > Markup > Save File To | Annotated PDF in Files |
7. Troubleshoot common problems
The screenshot shortcut does nothing
- Press and release both buttons simultaneously rather than holding one first.
- On Face ID models, use Side + Volume Up; on Home-button models, use Side + Home.
- Remove a case that prevents either button from traveling fully.
- If a button is unreliable, use your device’s accessibility controls to invoke Screenshot from the on-screen menu.
The Full Page tab is missing
- Confirm that the content is open in Safari, not inside an app’s embedded browser.
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail immediately after capture; the editor closes when the thumbnail is dismissed.
- Some screens, dialogs and third-party apps do not support full-page capture. Return to the webpage itself.
The capture stops before the bottom
- Wait for the page to finish loading before taking the screenshot.
- Scroll through long pages first so lazy-loaded images and sections have a chance to appear.
- Use the Full Page preview’s scroll bar to check the endpoint and crop out unwanted regions.
The page looks different in the screenshot
Cookie dialogs, sticky headers, chat buttons, login walls and responsive layouts can change what Safari captures. Dismiss overlays before pressing the buttons, rotate the phone if the page is designed for landscape, and make sure you are signed in when the page requires an account.
I cannot find the screenshot
Look in Photos under Collections > Media Types > Screenshots. A PDF saved through either Full Page or Markup is in the Files location you selected, not in Photos.
The PDF is too large to send
Crop the full-page preview, remove unnecessary pages or share a link through your storage provider. For a short visual reference, save an image instead of a PDF.

8. Or skip the browser setup
If you need repeatable captures from links, a server-side API avoids manual button presses and produces files from a request. ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Before capture it accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each step can be disabled. Only clean shots are billed: bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status.
Its API supports PNG, JPEG, WebP and PDF output, full-page pages with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, device presets, custom viewport and retina scale, PDF paper settings and page ranges, custom CSS or JavaScript, clicks, waits, request blocking, headers, cookies, user agents, Authorization, timezone, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, chosen cache TTLs, signed image links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, usage reporting and an OpenAPI specification. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work, which can simplify a migration.

ScreenshotNeo includes an MCP server with take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools, so Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients can request captures directly. The Free plan includes 1,000 shots each month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Plans and features are available at every tier, and yearly billing provides two months free. 9. Privacy, reliability and practical limits
- A screenshot records whatever is visible, including personal data, account names and notifications. Hide sensitive information before sharing.
- Safari captures the rendered page, not an interactive copy. Links, forms and videos will not behave like the original webpage in an image.
- A full-page image can be very tall; PDF is often easier to print or archive.
- Webpages can change after capture. Keep the original URL and capture date with important records.
- For automated jobs, wait for a page-specific selector or network idle rather than relying only on a fixed delay; block ads and trackers when they interfere with rendering, and inspect verdict and billing headers when using an API.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I screenshot a link without opening it?
No. A screenshot records rendered content, so open the link or its Safari preview first. You can then capture the visible screen or choose Full Page.
Does Full Page capture work in every iPhone app?
No. Full-page capture is provided by supported apps such as Safari webpages. If the tab is missing, open the URL in Safari rather than an embedded browser.
Recommended Free Tools
Where is a full-page screenshot saved?
You choose Photos for an image or Files for a PDF in the Full Page editor. Regular screenshots appear in Photos under Collections, Media Types and Screenshots.
What is the difference between a full-page image and a Safari PDF?
A full-page image is a visual capture saved to Photos. Safari’s Share and Markup flow creates a PDF intended for annotation and document storage.
