Consider this separate extension if your workflow depends on rental inventory administration, optional buffer periods, or choices such as local delivery, on-site pickup and return, or shipping. Its guide also describes products configured as rental-only or as available to rent or purchase (Rental Products for WooCommerce guide). Confirm current compatibility and features on the extension’s live documentation before committing.

Check compatibility before installing
The WooCommerce Bookings introduction lists PHP 7.4 or later, WordPress 6.4 or later, WooCommerce 9.0 or later, and working WP-Cron to clear bookings left in abandoned carts. These are the requirements shown in the documentation accessed September 30, 2026; check the current live documentation and your store’s installed versions before purchase or installation, since requirements can change. The cited documentation does not establish compatibility with every theme, payment gateway, or third-party plugin.
Set up an equipment rental product
- Create a bookable product. In WooCommerce’s Bookings setup, begin with the Equipment Rental template, then edit the product to reflect the specific item, rental policy, and customer-facing description. Bookable products accept date or duration scheduling rather than behaving like ordinary products. See the Bookings introduction and equipment rental example.
- Define when customers can rent it. Configure available dates, time slots, or custom date ranges, and review the extension’s availability rules and conflict priority. Use periods that match when the equipment is genuinely ready to leave the business. Where your chosen configuration permits, account for preparation and return time so one rental does not make the next promised rental impractical.
- Represent physical stock accurately. Decide whether each individually tracked asset needs its own resource or whether interchangeable units can be represented as shared capacity. Set capacity to the quantity actually available for rental, not simply the total number owned if some units may be in repair, reserved, or otherwise unavailable. The documentation supports equipment resources but does not prescribe a universal inventory schema, so align the model with your stock-control process.
- Set the rental price and explain its unit. Bookings provides base, block, and display cost settings, with options for differing rates across periods or discounts. Make clear whether the displayed rate applies per hour, day, week, or another block. Check how the configured price behaves for partial-day, multi-day, and weekend reservations if those cases apply to your business.
- Choose the fulfillment workflow. Decide how customers receive and return the item: for example, collection at your site, local delivery, or shipping. If the rental process needs operational tools for stock and these logistics, evaluate Rental Products for WooCommerce against your requirements and verify its current compatibility.
- Choose payment timing deliberately. WooCommerce Deposits integrates with Bookings for fixed or percentage deposits and payment plans. Its documentation says it is not designed for refundable security deposits. Treating an advance payment as a damage hold would therefore misrepresent the documented feature; businesses needing a refundable hold or card authorization should establish a separate supported process. Test the booking journey before accepting reservations
Run representative bookings in your actual store configuration before launch. WooCommerce’s Deposits integration instructions explicitly include testing the booking process. Check the cases that could create a real operational or payment problem:

Make a test booking with the same payment and fulfillment choices customers will use. Validate the selected extension against your real rental policies and the current versions of your store’s software before making reservations available to the public.
