How to Add Product Questions and Answers in WooCommerce

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To add product questions and answers in WooCommerce, first decide whether your team will write the questions and answers or customers should be able to submit questions. WooCommerce’s built-in product reviews handle reviews, ratings, moderation and merchant replies; they are not a dedicated product Q&A form. Use a product FAQ extension for staff-written answers, or an extension that explicitly supports shopper questions for customer-submitted Q&A.

Choose the right WooCommerce workflow

Option Best for What it does
Core product reviews Customer reviews, ratings and merchant replies Built into WooCommerce. It does not provide a dedicated product-question submission workflow. See WooCommerce Product Reviews.
Product FAQs Answers your staff write in advance Add question-and-answer pairs in the product editor and display them in a product FAQ tab. See WooCommerce Product FAQs.
AI Product FAQs and Questions Shopper-submitted questions managed by the store, with optional AI answer generation Provides question submission and controls for moderation, guest questions, notifications and visibility. AI generation is optional and requires a configured API key. See AI Product FAQs and Questions documentation.
Product Reviews Pro Questions alongside broader product discussions and reviews Can support questions and other contribution types, including photos, videos and comments. Check its discussion and login settings. See Product Reviews Pro documentation.
FAQs Manager or FAQ+ FAQ administration with shopper-submission options Features vary by extension; documented options include product assignment, public or private status, submission controls, notifications, spam protection and display placement. See FAQs Manager and FAQ+.

How to add FAQs written by your team

Install and activate a product FAQ extension

Choose an extension that adds authored question-and-answer pairs to the product page. Follow that extension’s installation instructions, then confirm its FAQ feature is enabled.

Add questions to a product

Open the product in the WordPress admin and use the extension’s product FAQ fields to enter each question and its answer. Save or update the product, then view its public page to confirm the questions appear in the FAQ tab.

Check the product page layout

Product templates, themes and page builders can change how product tabs appear. Check the FAQ tab on desktop and mobile and verify that it is visible where shoppers expect it. Test the extension with your active theme and page builder before using it on your live store.

How to let customers ask product questions

Install the extension through WordPress

For WooCommerce’s documented AI Product FAQs and Questions extension, download the ZIP from your WooCommerce account. In WordPress, go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin, upload the ZIP, and activate the extension. Other extensions may have different installation steps.

Decide who can submit and when questions appear

In the extension’s settings, enable the front-end question form. Choose whether new questions publish immediately or remain pending for review, and whether guests may submit questions. The exact setting names and locations vary by extension.

Configure answers, visibility and notifications

Use the extension’s question-management tools to review submissions, write answers and choose whether each question is public or private. Where available, enable customer and administrator email notices so the right people know when a question is submitted or answered. Some FAQ tools also let you assign questions to products or notify the customer when an answer is added.

Set up moderation and spam protection

Review comment-moderation and CAPTCHA settings before opening the form to shoppers. The documented AI Product FAQs and Questions settings include comment moderation and Google reCAPTCHA; FAQ+ documents reCAPTCHA v3. Options depend on the extension you choose.

Review optional AI answers before publishing

The AI Product FAQs and Questions extension can generate answers when an API key is configured, but AI generation is optional. Treat generated text as a draft: check it against the product’s actual specifications and policies before making it public. The extension documentation describes the feature; it does not establish the accuracy of generated answers.

When WooCommerce reviews are enough

Core product reviews may fit a store that wants customers to leave reviews and ratings and staff to moderate or reply. To configure them, go to WooCommerce > Settings > Products. WooCommerce documents controls for enabling reviews, restricting reviews to verified owners, enabling ratings, moderating contributions and replying to reviews. These are review settings, not a dedicated customer question-and-answer form. See WooCommerce Product Reviews.

Test before launching the feature

  1. Use a staging or development site. Install and configure the extension there before changing the live product page.
  2. Test the shopper journey. Submit a question as a guest and, if relevant, as a logged-in customer. Confirm whether the question publishes or waits for approval as intended.
  3. Test the store’s response process. Answer a question, check its public or private status, and confirm configured email notifications arrive.
  4. Inspect the product page. Check the FAQ or Q&A placement with your active theme and page builder, including on mobile.
  5. Check moderation and spam controls. Verify that submissions are handled according to your chosen moderation settings and that any configured CAPTCHA works.

WooCommerce’s Product FAQs guidance recommends thoroughly testing on staging or development before production and notes that themes, plugins and page builders can conflict. Compatibility depends on the particular store setup; the documentation does not guarantee behavior for every combination.
