SeedProd provides a documented way to create, customize, activate and later disable this page without replacing your active theme.
Coming soon or maintenance mode?
Choose the mode based on the site’s condition and the response you want search engines to receive.
| Mode | Best for | Search-engine response | Logged-in users |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coming Soon | A new site or a site still being built | SeedProd documents an HTTP 200 response, so the page can be indexed unless you prevent indexing separately. | They can see the regular WordPress site while visitors see the placeholder. |
| Maintenance | Short-term work on an existing public site | SeedProd documents HTTP 503, signalling temporary unavailability. | They can continue seeing the regular site, according to SeedProd’s guide. |
Do not leave maintenance mode enabled for a long prelaunch period simply because it hides the unfinished site. A 503 response communicates temporary downtime, whereas coming soon mode is intended for a site that is not ready to launch.
Decide what visitors and search engines should see
Choose indexing deliberately
SeedProd says coming soon pages are accessible to search engines by default. That can be useful if you want the brand and launch page discovered, but it is undesirable if the site is not ready for indexing. Review the page’s No Index setting and any robots.txt directives, and check WordPress’s own privacy setting before activating it. A no-index setting is not a substitute for deciding whether sensitive information belongs on a public page.

Plan the message
Explain what the site will offer and give visitors a useful next action. Add branding, a short description, an email opt-in if collecting launch interest is appropriate, and a countdown only when the date is dependable. An uncertain date is better described as “launching soon” than represented by a timer that will expire inaccurately.
Set up a coming soon page with SeedProd
The following menu names are SeedProd’s documented workflow, not a universal WordPress core interface.

- Open the setup screen. In WordPress admin, open SeedProd Dashboard and choose the option to set up a Coming Soon Page.
- Choose a starting design. Select an available template or start with a blank template. SeedProd landing pages are independent of the active theme, which can help when the theme itself is unfinished.
- Customize the page. Use the visual builder to add the site name or logo, colors, a concise explanation, and any launch-interest form. SeedProd lists branding, countdown timers and opt-in forms among its available blocks. Configure the page’s SEO title and description as well as its No Index choice.
- Save the design. Use the builder’s save control before leaving the page.
- Activate the mode. Return to the SeedProd dashboard and turn on Coming Soon Mode.
- Check the public view. Open the site in a private window or a browser where you are logged out. Confirm that visitors see the new page while your logged-in account still reaches the working site.
SeedProd’s WordPress.org listing describes coming soon and maintenance templates in the free version. The listing also describes additional paid capabilities, so do not assume every block, integration or control is included at no cost.
Control access while the site is hidden
For a team site, configure exceptions before sharing the URL. SeedProd’s documented settings can include:
- Bypass URL: a special address that lets approved people view the normal site.
- URL inclusion and exclusion: rules for applying the placeholder only to selected paths.
- IP restrictions: access for specified network addresses where supported by your setup.
- Role-based access: permission for selected WordPress roles on coming soon and maintenance pages.
These controls interact with WordPress, other plugins and your host. Test each exception with the same URL and account your colleagues will use rather than relying on the setting label alone.

Logged-out visitors still see the normal site
- Confirm that Coming Soon Mode is switched on and that the intended page is selected.
- Use a private window, because an existing login session may intentionally bypass the placeholder.
- Check URL inclusion or exclusion rules and any role or bypass settings.
The old page remains visible after a change
Clear relevant WordPress, host, page or CDN caches, then test again in a logged-out session. Caching is one possible cause, not proof that the plugin failed; verify the response from the actual public URL.

Search visibility is not what you expected
Recheck the No Index choice, robots.txt directives and WordPress privacy setting. Coming soon mode may be indexable by default, while maintenance mode is documented as returning 503.
