To capture an entire webpage, use a browser’s full-page screenshot feature; an ordinary desktop screenshot usually captures only what is visible on screen. In Firefox, choose Take Screenshot and then Save full page. In Microsoft Edge, choose Web capture and then Capture full page. If you only need a visible portion, a selected area, or a printable document, choose the matching option instead.
Choose the kind of capture you need
Before taking a screenshot, decide how much of the page you need and what you plan to do with the result. A full-page screenshot is an image of the webpage beyond the current browser window. A visible-area screenshot captures only what is on screen at that moment. A selection captures a chosen region. A printout is a document prepared for printing, not a screenshot image.

Take a screenshot in Firefox
Capture the whole page or just what is visible
- Open the webpage in Firefox.
- Right-click an empty area of the page and select Take Screenshot. Alternatively, press Ctrl + Shift + S on Windows or Linux, or Command + Shift + S on macOS.
- Choose Save full page to include content outside the current window, or Save visible to capture the current visible area.
- Select Download to save the image in Firefox’s default downloads folder, or select Copy to put the image on the clipboard.
If you cannot conveniently use the context menu, Mozilla says you can add the Screenshot control to the toolbar: open Menu > More Tools > Customize Toolbar, then add the control. For keyboard users, the screenshot crosshair can be moved with the arrow keys. Mozilla notes that moving the crosshair does not work on Wayland.

Capture a page element or use Developer Tools
Firefox Developer Tools provide a more targeted option when you need a particular element rather than the whole page. In the Web Console, Firefox’s :screenshot helper supports options including --fullpage to include content outside the window bounds and --selector to capture a chosen element and its descendants. Other documented options include a delay, device pixel ratio, output filename, and clipboard capture. These controls are useful when the standard full-page and visible-page choices do not match the capture you need.
For example, the helper’s documented option names include:
:screenshot --fullpagefor a full-page capture.:screenshot --selectorfor a selector-based element capture; provide the selector according to Firefox’s Web Console syntax.
Use Firefox’s Developer Tools documentation for the complete command syntax and option combinations. The basic browser workflow is simpler for a one-off capture; the console is a better fit when you need a specific element, delay, or pixel ratio.

Take a screenshot in Microsoft Edge
Capture the whole page or a region
- Open the webpage in Edge.
- Open Settings and more (…) and choose Web capture, or press Ctrl + Shift + S.
- Select Capture full page for the whole webpage, including content outside the current view. Select Capture area to choose a region.
- Review the capture and save it. Edge Web Capture also supports copying and markup for area captures.
Microsoft’s guide describes the full-page choice as the option for taking a screenshot of the entire webpage. If the label or menu location differs in your installation, check the current Edge menu and local availability rather than assuming every locale or release presents identical controls.

Choose print when you want a formatted document to read, archive, or print, rather than an image of the page’s appearance. In Edge, press Ctrl + P on Windows or Command + P on Mac to open the print dialog. Review the preview and print settings, then choose a save-to-file destination if your system provides one. The available destinations depend on the system; a PDF produced this way is print output, not a screenshot.

Troubleshoot common screenshot problems
The screenshot contains only the visible portion
You may have selected a visible-area capture instead of a full-page capture. In Firefox, return to Take Screenshot and choose Save full page. In Edge, choose Capture full page, not Capture area. A normal operating-system screenshot also captures the screen rather than automatically extending through the webpage.

The screenshot control is hard to find
In Firefox, try the right-click menu on an empty page area, the keyboard shortcut, or add the Screenshot control through Menu > More Tools > Customize Toolbar. In Edge, look under Settings and more (…) for Web capture, or use Ctrl + Shift + S. Menu wording or availability may vary by region, locale, or browser release.
The capture includes a banner, popup, or chat widget
A browser’s built-in capture records the page as it appears; the supplied Firefox and Edge workflows do not describe automatic removal of these overlays. If the overlay obstructs content, dismiss it in the page before capturing when appropriate, or use an automated capture workflow with explicit cleanup options. You need one element, a delayed capture, or a different pixel ratio
Firefox’s Web Console screenshot helper supports a selector, delay, and device pixel ratio, alongside full-page capture. Use Developer Tools when those controls matter; for a routine screenshot, the browser’s built-in full-page or visible option avoids the extra setup.
You need a file you can print or share as pages
Use print preview rather than treating a screenshot as a document. Review the preview and choose a print destination that saves a file if one is available on your system. The result and available save options depend on that system’s print destinations.
