Yes. Snagit can capture content that extends beyond the visible screen, both vertically and horizontally. Its scrolling capture is designed for full webpages, long tables, and other scrollable windows. Start an All-in-One capture, choose the scrolling arrow, move through the page, and finish in Snagit Editor, where you can save or share the result.
What Snagit’s scrolling capture does
A normal screenshot records only the pixels currently visible. Scrolling capture adds the content revealed as you move through a page or window, producing one tall or wide image. TechSmith’s support guidance confirms that Snagit supports vertical and horizontal scrolling capture.
The feature is useful for:
- Entire webpages, including sections below the fold.
- Long spreadsheets and data tables.
- Documents or application windows with scrollbars.
- Wide interfaces that require horizontal scrolling.
It is not a guarantee that every website or application will stitch perfectly. Browser behavior, page structure, operating-system version, Snagit release, display drivers, security software and other utilities can affect the result.
How to capture a scrolling webpage in Snagit
- Open Snagit. Leave the webpage you want to capture open in your browser.
- Choose All-in-One capture. In Snagit’s capture controls, select the All-in-One option.
- Select the browser window or region. Drag around the content you want, or select the window according to Snagit’s on-screen prompts.
- Start the capture. When the capture controls appear, look for the orange scrolling arrows.
- Choose a direction. Select the vertical arrow for a tall page or the horizontal arrow for content that extends sideways.
- Let Snagit scroll. The browser moves through the content while Snagit combines the frames. Avoid moving the pointer or interacting with the page unless Snagit asks you to.
- Finish in Snagit Editor. Review the completed image, then save or share it from the editor.
For a page with both directions of overflow, capture the primary direction first. A very wide and very tall page can create a large image that is harder to inspect and share.

When you need manual scrolling
If the orange arrows do not appear, or automatic scrolling produces a poor result, TechSmith also describes a manual approach. Select the target window, then use its scrollbar or your mouse wheel to move through the content while capturing the required sections. You may need to combine several images in an editor afterward; manual work gives you more control over where each segment starts and ends.
Manual capture checklist
- Keep the browser window at a consistent size and zoom level.
- Scroll in one direction at a steady pace.
- Overlap adjacent sections slightly so they can be aligned.
- Do not resize the window between segments.
- Save each segment with an ordered filename.
What to try when automatic scrolling fails
Use Scrolling Capture instead of the combined workflow
Snagit provides a separate Scrolling Capture mode. Try it when All-in-One does not show the arrows or when the selected region is not being recognized as scrollable.
Resize the target window
Make the browser or application large enough that the scrollbar and content are clearly visible. A very narrow, maximized, or partly obscured window can make detection unreliable.
Keep the scrollbar outside the selection
When selecting a region, leave the scrollbar outside the captured area if possible. Including the scrollbar can interfere with scrolling detection or create a distracting line in the final image.

Disable floating toolbars and overlays
Chat heads, browser toolbars, accessibility overlays and other floating controls can intercept scrolling. Hide or disable them temporarily, then retry.
Return browser zoom to 100%
Non-default zoom changes the relationship between the visible viewport and the document. Reset the browser to 100% and test again before changing other settings.
Try another browser or a private window
Browser extensions, injected scripts and site-specific behavior can block or alter scrolling. A different browser or private window helps isolate those causes.
Check for parallax and animated layouts
Parallax pages move background and foreground layers at different rates. Dynamic content, sticky headers, lazy-loaded sections and animations can also make frame stitching difficult. A static or simplified view is usually easier to capture.

macOS App Store release
TechSmith documents cases in which the macOS App Store release does not show scrolling arrows. The exact behavior depends on the Snagit release and macOS environment, so check the current TechSmith guidance for your installed edition. If the arrows are absent, try the separate Scrolling Capture mode or the manual method.

PDF readers
PDF applications may not expose their scrollable content in a way Snagit can detect. TechSmith documents PDF-reader detection issues and suggests alternatives for relevant cases, including panoramic scrolling or Snagit Printer. Use panoramic scrolling when the content behaves like a continuous canvas; use Snagit Printer when producing a PDF output is the more reliable path.
Other applications
Scrolling capture works best when the target has a conventional scrollbar and stable layout. Custom canvases, remote-desktop windows, protected content and applications that redraw the entire viewport may require manual segments or an application-specific export feature.
How to improve capture quality
- Close unrelated tabs and windows. This reduces accidental selection and resource contention.
- Wait for the page to finish loading. Capture after fonts, images and expandable sections have settled.
- Use a consistent viewport. Do not resize or change zoom during capture.
- Expand only what you need. Open accordions and load-more controls before starting; otherwise the document height can change mid-capture.
- Pause disruptive animations. Animated banners can appear in different positions between frames.
- Review the full image at 100%. Look for duplicated bands, missing sections, seams, clipped sticky headers and unreadable text.
Troubleshooting by symptom
No scrolling arrow appears
Switch from All-in-One to Scrolling Capture, confirm that the selected area contains a scrollable window, move the scrollbar outside the selection, disable floating overlays and test at 100% browser zoom. On macOS, verify whether you are using the App Store release described in TechSmith’s support notes.

The capture stops early
The page may have reached its detected end, loaded more content only after interaction, or changed layout during capture. Scroll manually to confirm that additional content exists, finish loading the page, and retry with a stable window. If detection still stops early, capture overlapping sections manually.

Sections are duplicated or missing
Inconsistent scrolling speed, sticky navigation and animation commonly cause stitching errors. Disable overlays, scroll in one direction, use 100% zoom and try another browser or a private window. Manual overlapping captures are the dependable fallback.
The result is blank or mostly white
Check that the correct window was selected and that the page was visible before capture. A protected, remote or hardware-accelerated surface may not expose pixels normally; try another browser, disable the interfering utility where safe, or use the application’s export function.
Text or images look blurry
A long image can be displayed scaled down in the editor or viewer. Inspect it at 100% and export in a lossless format when possible. If the source itself is still loading, wait and recapture.
A PDF will not scroll-capture
Use the PDF-reader alternatives documented by TechSmith: panoramic scrolling for suitable continuous content or Snagit Printer when a print-style output is appropriate. The best option varies by reader and Snagit version.
Automatic versus manual capture
| Method | Best for | Advantages | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Automatic scrolling | Stable webpages and conventional scrollable windows | One operation; vertical and horizontal directions | Can fail on dynamic, parallax or protected content |
| Manual segments | Pages where arrows are missing or stitching is unreliable | Precise control over boundaries | Requires alignment and later assembly |
| Panoramic scrolling | Suitable PDF or canvas-like content | Useful when normal detection does not work | Availability and behavior depend on content and version |
| Snagit Printer | PDF workflows where printing is more reliable | Produces a print-oriented result | Not a general webpage scrolling method |
