The dependable way to download a webpage as a JPG is to capture the rendered page, then export the image as JPEG. Firefox’s built-in screenshot command captures either the visible viewport or the complete scrolling page, but Mozilla documents that download as a PNG. If your destination specifically requires .jpg or .jpeg, convert that PNG in an image editor—or use a capture tool whose listing explicitly offers JPG export.

What “download a webpage as a JPG” actually means
A browser does not normally download a webpage as one JPEG file. A page is assembled from HTML, CSS, images, fonts, scripts and other resources. A screenshot records the rendered result as a bitmap. That is different from saving the page source, downloading its assets, or printing it to PDF.
Choose the capture area before you start:
- Visible area: only what is currently inside the browser window.
- Full page: the page from the top through its scrollable content.
- Selected area or element: a rectangle or component you choose.
Also decide whether a PNG is acceptable. PNG preserves sharp text and transparency, while JPG is usually smaller but uses lossy compression and does not support transparency. Firefox’s documented screenshot download is PNG, so a JPG requirement adds a conversion step unless you choose another tool.

Fastest built-in method in Firefox
Capture the visible page or the entire page
- Open the page in Firefox and wait for the content you need to appear.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and select Take Screenshot. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- In the screenshot controls, choose Save full page for the complete scrolling document, or Save visible for the current viewport.
- Download the result and note its filename. Mozilla’s support documentation describes the resulting file with a
.pngextension.
For a full-page capture, let Firefox finish rendering before saving. Pages that load images only as you scroll may not show every image immediately; scroll through important sections first, then repeat the capture if necessary.
Turn Firefox’s PNG into a JPG
- Open the downloaded PNG in an image editor such as the editor already available on your computer.
- Choose Export, Export As, or Save As.
- Select JPEG/JPG, choose a quality level, and save a new file. Keep the original PNG if you may need to make another export.
- Check the new filename and reopen it to confirm that it is actually JPEG, not a PNG with a renamed extension.
Do not simply rename page.png to page.jpg. The extension changes, but the image encoding does not; upload systems that inspect file data can reject it.
When you need direct JPG export
Use a browser extension carefully
The Chrome Web Store listing for Full Page Screen Capture describes full-page, visible-area and custom-area captures with JPG, PNG or PDF export. Those are capabilities claimed by the listing, not an independent performance guarantee for every website. Before installing, review its current permissions, publisher details, supported browser version and privacy terms.
Another listing, GoFullPage – Full Page Screen Capture, records a version 8.5 changelog dated 2025-03-19. That establishes listing history, not that it is the best route for JPG output. Extension menus and export behavior can change, so confirm the format in the downloaded file.
Use an online converter only when the page is not sensitive
An online image converter can turn a PNG into JPG, but uploading a screenshot may disclose private text, account information or customer data. For confidential pages, convert locally with an image editor or operating-system utility instead.

Firefox Developer Tools for repeatable captures
Firefox Developer Tools provide another built-in route when you need page or element screenshots and more control than the context menu.
Enable the screenshot button
- Open Developer Tools with F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I (use Command+Option+I on macOS).
- Open Developer Tools Settings.
- Under Available Toolbox Buttons, enable the screenshot button.
- Use the button to capture the page or a selected element. Firefox saves the result to your Downloads folder.
Mozilla’s Firefox Developer Tools documentation also describes the Web Console :screenshot helper, including options for full-page output. The documented material does not establish that this route encodes files as JPG, so inspect the result and convert it when needed.
Capture a specific element
Element capture is useful for a chart, article card or table rather than an entire page. Inspect the element, select the relevant node, and use the screenshot control available in your Firefox version. If the resulting image includes extra margins or a clipped shadow, capture a slightly larger region and crop it in the editor.

Lazy-loaded images
Many sites request images only when they approach the viewport. A full-page command may therefore capture placeholders or blank areas. Scroll through the page once, wait for images to finish, and capture again. If the page replaces content while you scroll, save separate sections or use a tool with an explicit wait-for-selector or delay option.
Sticky headers, cookie banners and overlays
A fixed header can appear repeatedly in stitched full-page output, while cookie notices, newsletter prompts and chat bubbles can cover text. Dismiss overlays before capture. If a banner returns on reload, use the site’s consent controls or hide the obstructing element temporarily in Developer Tools. A screenshot reflects what the browser rendered at capture time.
Responsive layout and zoom
The image dimensions depend on the browser window and device-pixel ratio. Resize the window to the layout you need, then capture. Browser zoom changes the rendered scale; reset it to 100% when you need a predictable result. A full-page image can be extremely tall, so check whether the destination accepts its dimensions before uploading.

Troubleshooting
The download is PNG, not JPG
That is expected for Firefox’s documented built-in route. Export the PNG as JPEG in an editor, or use a capture tool whose current listing promises JPG export.

The bottom of the page is missing
You probably saved the visible area rather than the full page, or content had not finished loading. Repeat with Save full page, scroll through lazy sections first, and wait for late content.
Images or fonts are blank
Check your connection, disable extensions that block page resources, reload, and wait for web fonts and images. A page that requires sign-in may also show different content in a private or logged-out window.
A popup covers the screenshot
Close the popup before capture. For persistent overlays, use the page’s consent controls or temporarily hide the responsible element in Developer Tools. Do not remove an overlay if doing so would violate the site’s terms or change the information you are documenting.

The JPG looks fuzzy
JPG compression removes detail, especially around small text. Export at a higher quality, capture at a larger viewport or device scale, and retain the original PNG for archival use.
An automated request returns an error
Check the URL encoding, API key, timeout and response status. Confirm that the target is publicly reachable and that your code writes binary response data rather than treating it as text. - Open the file and verify the complete intended area is present.
- Confirm the extension and actual format are JPEG/JPG.
- Check that text is readable at the destination’s displayed size.
- Crop private browser tabs, account names, addresses or notifications.
- Keep the PNG source when future edits or lossless quality matter.
