What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
In WooCommerce, “one-click checkout” can mean either an express payment button (Apple Pay, Google Pay, Amazon Pay, Link, or WooPay) or a Buy Now flow that lets an eligible returning customer place an order with saved payment details. Express buttons can work for guests and first-time shoppers when their device, wallet, country, currency, product and gateway qualify. Direct Buy Now completion is a returning-customer feature, not a guaranteed one-click purchase for an unauthenticated visitor.
Choose the one-click experience you actually need
| Experience | Who can use it | Checkout behavior | Typical implementation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Express checkout | Guests, new customers or returning customers with a supported wallet/account | A wallet or accelerated-payment sheet supplies payment and often address details; the normal form may be bypassed | WooCommerce Stripe extension or WooPayments |
| Direct Buy Now | A registered customer with saved payment details and at least one completed paid order | Places the order without visiting the cart or completing the ordinary checkout form | Cashier for WooCommerce |
These are different workflows. Install and configure the path that matches your shopper and product requirements rather than treating “one-click” as a single WooCommerce setting.

Path 1: Add express buttons with the WooCommerce Stripe extension
Check the prerequisites
- Your entire store must use HTTPS with a valid SSL certificate.
- Your business must be in a Stripe-supported country, and your PHP, WordPress and WooCommerce versions must meet the extension’s current requirements.
- Payment-method eligibility varies. Apple Pay has additional server and domain requirements; Google Pay requires a payment-method domain enabled in Stripe; Link depends on the Stripe account country; Amazon Pay has country and currency restrictions.
Confirm current eligibility for your merchant location, currencies and products before advertising a method. A shopper may also need a compatible browser, device and wallet account.
Enable the methods
- In WordPress Admin, open WooCommerce > Settings > Payments > Stripe > Payment Methods.
- Select the express methods you want, such as Amazon Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Link by Stripe.
- Save the settings and complete any Stripe verification, domain-registration or account prompts shown by the extension.
Apple Pay and Google Pay are enabled together in this integration. The button can appear on supported product, cart or checkout locations, but its visibility is conditional rather than guaranteed.

Path 2: Use WooPayments express checkout
Available methods and eligibility
WooPayments lists Amazon Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link by Stripe and WooPay as express methods. Which option appears depends on the product, browser and device, customer location, store settings and payment-method eligibility. WooPay is limited to U.S.-based merchants and customers in the compatibility documentation. That documentation also gives Link separate U.S.-and-USD constraints.
Apple Pay and Google Pay can be hidden for virtual products under particular tax and address configurations. Treat the compatibility rules as method-specific and verify them for your catalog.
Configure the checkout page and block
- Activate and configure WooPayments, then enable the express methods supported for your account.
- Make sure the intended page is designated as the checkout page under WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced.
- If you use the Checkout block, add or retain its Express Checkout block. It renders content only when an express-capable gateway is active.
Account for custom fields
Apple Pay, Google Pay and Amazon Pay bypass the usual checkout form and do not collect fields added with Checkout Field Editor. Link autofills the form instead, so those custom fields continue to work with Link. If your tax, shipping or fulfillment process depends on required custom data, test every express method and make sure the order still contains what staff need.
Path 3: Give returning customers a direct Buy Now button
Understand the eligibility rules
Cashier for WooCommerce documents one-click completion as an order placed without visiting the cart or filling in the checkout form or payment details. Its prerequisites are strict: the shopper must be a registered store customer, saved cards must be enabled, and the customer must have at least one completed paid order. A supported gateway is also required.
Documented gateway options include WooCommerce Stripe, Authorize.Net CIM, PayPal/Braintree, standard PayPal, and WooCommerce’s built-in bank transfer, cheque and cash-on-delivery methods. Confirm that your chosen gateway supports the saved-payment workflow you intend to offer.
Configure Cashier
- Open WordPress Admin > WooCommerce > Settings > Cashier.
- Enable the Buy Now module.
- Choose whether Buy Now replaces Add to cart on all products or is enabled only on selected products.
- Save the settings.
Cashier also documents optional automatic coupon and shipping-method settings. Configure these only after checking how they interact with your prices, shipping zones and tax rules.

| Decision point | Stripe extension | WooPayments |
|---|---|---|
| Express methods named in the documentation | Amazon Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Link by Stripe | Amazon Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link by Stripe and WooPay |
| Regional constraints | Stripe account country, Amazon Pay country/currency rules and method-specific requirements apply | Customer and merchant location rules apply; WooPay is documented for U.S. merchants and customers, and Link has U.S./USD constraints in the compatibility documentation |
| Browser/device dependence | Wallet and device support determines whether a button appears | Product, browser, device, customer location and store settings determine visibility |
| Custom checkout fields | Behavior depends on the selected express method; test fields when the wallet bypasses checkout | Apple Pay, Google Pay and Amazon Pay bypass Checkout Field Editor fields; Link autofills the form |
Neither set of documentation establishes a universal conversion or speed advantage. Select the gateway that fits your countries, currencies, products, fields and existing payment operations.
Test one-click checkout before publishing it
- Use a staging copy or a low-risk test product and switch the gateway to its documented test mode where available.
- Test a guest shopper and a logged-in returning customer separately.
- Check supported and unsupported browsers and devices, including a device with no wallet configured.
- Verify that the button appears only where intended on product, cart and checkout pages.
- Place orders for physical, virtual and subscription-like products if those are in your catalog, checking product-specific restrictions.
- Compare the order’s address, tax, shipping method, customer account, coupon and required custom fields with your normal checkout.
- Confirm that failed, canceled and duplicate-payment scenarios leave the order in the correct status and do not create a second fulfillment record.
Troubleshoot a missing or incomplete button
- No button anywhere: confirm the gateway and method are enabled, the checkout page is assigned in WooCommerce settings, HTTPS is valid, and the account and country are eligible.
- Apple Pay or Google Pay is missing: check the device wallet, browser support, Stripe domain or server requirements, and WooPayments product, tax and address conditions.
- Amazon Pay or Link is missing: recheck account country, currency and the method’s current regional rules.
- Custom data is absent: use a method that keeps the checkout form, such as Link where appropriate, or redesign the required-data flow before allowing a bypass button.
- Buy Now is unavailable: verify that the shopper is logged in, has saved cards enabled, has a completed paid order and is using a supported gateway.
Do not start with the legacy WooCommerce express extension
WooCommerce’s former “Express Checkout for WooCommerce” extension is marked no longer available on WooCommerce.com, and its documentation is no longer updated. For a new implementation, use the current Stripe extension or WooPayments documentation and recheck live country, currency and compatibility rules because payment features change.
