LinkedIn Square Image Size in 2026: 1080×1080 for Posts, 1200×1200 for Ads

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use 1080 × 1080 pixels (1:1) for a regular organic LinkedIn photo post in 2026. LinkedIn’s organic guidance recommends a 1080-pixel width and accepts photo aspect ratios from 3:1 to 4:5, so a square canvas fits. For a single-image LinkedIn ad, use LinkedIn’s separate recommendation: 1200 × 1200 pixels. Logos and link previews use different dimensions.

Quick size guide

LinkedIn surface Recommended size Minimum or range Aspect ratio Important qualification
Organic photo post 1080 × 1080 px as a practical square canvas At least 552 × 276 px; 1080 px width recommended LinkedIn accepts 3:1 to 4:5 (width:height) Choose final dimensions before publishing; uploaded photos cannot be resized afterward.
Single-image ad 1200 × 1200 px 360 × 360 px minimum; 4320 × 4320 px maximum 1:1 square LinkedIn warns square and vertical ads may be cropped when shared organically.
LinkedIn Page logo 400 × 400 px 268 × 268 px minimum 1:1 square This is a profile identity asset, not a post image.
Page URL/link preview 1200 × 627 px Not stated 1.91:1 Use a wide image rather than a square.

What size should a square LinkedIn post be?

Organic posts: start with 1080 × 1080

A 1080 × 1080-pixel file is the practical production standard for a square, organic photo post. It is large enough to meet LinkedIn’s recommended width while preserving the 1:1 shape. A dated 2026 sizing guide also lists 1080 × 1080 for square posts, but LinkedIn’s own help guidance is expressed as a width recommendation and an aspect-ratio range rather than one mandatory square template.

Keep important text, logos and faces away from the extreme edges. LinkedIn can display the same upload in different feed contexts and screen sizes, so a modest internal margin reduces the chance that interface elements or visual trimming make the design feel cramped.

Minimum dimensions and aspect ratio

LinkedIn’s organic photo guidance gives a minimum of 552 × 276 pixels and permits aspect ratios from 3:1 through 4:5 (width:height). A square is 1:1, which sits inside that permitted range. The minimum is a technical floor, not a quality target: designing at 1080 × 1080 gives you more detail and better flexibility when the image is displayed on high-density screens.

LinkedIn single-image ad size

Use 1200 × 1200 pixels for a square ad

For a single-image LinkedIn ad, LinkedIn specifies “Aspect ratio for square: 1:1 | 1200 x 1200 pixels.” The same specification lists 360 × 360 pixels as the minimum and 4320 × 4320 pixels as the maximum. These are advertising specifications, so do not substitute the organic-post recommendation when preparing campaign creative.

Plan for organic sharing

LinkedIn warns that square and vertical ad images might be cropped when ads are shared organically. Keep the core message, product and call to action in a central safe area, and avoid placing essential copy in corners. If one file must serve both paid and organic placements, preview it in both contexts before launch; a layout that is perfect in the ad placement can lose edges in a feed share.

Do not use the post size for a Page logo or link preview

Company and Page logo

LinkedIn’s Page specification recommends a 400 × 400-pixel logo and lists 268 × 268 pixels as the minimum. Export a clean square mark with sufficient padding for circular or small-size display. A 1080 × 1080 post graphic is not a substitute for this identity asset: logos are uploaded and rendered through a different Page surface.

Link preview image

A Page URL/link preview uses a 1200 × 627-pixel image at a 1.91:1 ratio. If your goal is to control the image shown beside a shared link, create this wide asset instead of uploading the square post graphic. Treat the preview as a separate design: the crop is wider, and small square-style text may become unreadable.

File format, compression and export settings

PNG or JPEG

LinkedIn’s Page guidance accepts PNG and JPEG. It recommends a high-resolution JPEG for best image resolution rather than defaulting to PNG for every design. JPEG is usually efficient for photographs and gradients; PNG can preserve sharp interface screenshots, flat-color illustrations and transparency when those characteristics matter.

Keep Page uploads under 3 MB

The cited Page guidance sets a maximum file size of 3 MB. Even when a post surface accepts a larger upload, keeping the export lean helps uploads complete and reduces the chance of platform-side recompression. Check the final file’s pixel dimensions and byte size, not only the design document’s canvas.

When an image looks blurry

  • Confirm that the source is at least 1080 pixels wide for an organic square post, or 1200 pixels square for an ad.
  • Do not enlarge a small image after export; scaling up cannot restore detail.
  • Export once from the original design rather than repeatedly opening and saving a JPEG.
  • Inspect the uploaded preview on a desktop and a phone. A browser zoom level can make a correctly sized image appear soft.
  • Use an image compression tool when the file is too large. LinkedIn names Trimage and ImageOptim as examples for reducing blurry or pixelated upload problems.

How to prepare a square LinkedIn image

  1. Identify the surface. Choose organic post, single-image ad, Page logo or link preview before opening your design tool.
  2. Set the canvas. Use 1080 × 1080 px for an organic square post, 1200 × 1200 px for a square ad, or the separate dimensions in the table for a logo or link preview.
  3. Design a safe center. Keep essential words and faces away from the outermost edge, especially if the asset will also be used in an ad.
  4. Export. Choose PNG or JPEG. For photographic artwork, a high-resolution JPEG is LinkedIn’s recommended choice.
  5. Check the file. Verify pixel dimensions, color appearance, legibility at phone size and, for Page uploads, the 3 MB limit.
  6. Upload and review. LinkedIn’s organic posting flow does not let you resize the photo after posting, so replace the file before publishing if the crop or readability is wrong.

Common problems and fixes

“My 1080 × 1080 image is being cropped.”

First check whether you are creating an ad rather than an organic photo post. Ads can be shared organically and LinkedIn warns that square or vertical creative may be cropped in that context. Move critical content toward the center and preview the shared version.

“The upload is rejected or will not finish.”

Confirm the file is PNG or JPEG, then check the encoded file size. For a Page upload, reduce it below 3 MB with a compression tool while preserving the required dimensions. Also make sure you exported an actual raster image rather than a design-project file.

“The image is technically large but still blurry.”

Pixel dimensions do not create detail that was absent in the source. Return to the original photograph or vector artwork, export at the target dimensions, and avoid several rounds of JPEG recompression. Compare the original and uploaded previews at the same display size.

“The link preview is showing the wrong shape.”

A link preview is a 1200 × 627-pixel, 1.91:1 asset, not a square post. Replace the page’s preview image with a wide version and allow LinkedIn to refresh the preview before sharing again.

“I used the logo dimensions for a post.”

A 400 × 400-pixel Page logo is an identity asset. For a square feed post, create a separate 1080 × 1080 file; for a square ad, create 1200 × 1200.

Automating visual checks for developers

If you maintain a web page that displays campaign artwork, you may want an automated screenshot of the rendered page for review. That is different from changing LinkedIn’s upload dimensions, but it can help teams verify that a 1080-pixel design remains legible in its surrounding layout.

Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF, so you can capture a review page without installing or driving a browser. Cookie banners, newsletter popups and chat widgets are removed before the shot; bot checks, blank pages and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents use take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf through an MCP client.

Example cURL request (see the ScreenshotNeo documentation):

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

Python:

import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)

Node.js:

const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots each month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots, and every feature is included on every plan. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account.

Choosing the right canvas

Use the surface, not a generic “LinkedIn size,” as your decision rule: 1080 × 1080 for an organic square photo, 1200 × 1200 for a square single-image ad, 400 × 400 for a Page logo and 1200 × 627 for a link preview. Export PNG or JPEG, keep Page files under 3 MB, and make the final crop decision before publishing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 1080 × 1080 the official minimum for a LinkedIn square post?

No. LinkedIn’s organic guidance gives a minimum of 552 × 276 pixels, recommends a 1080-pixel width and accepts 3:1 through 4:5 ratios. 1080 × 1080 is the practical square production canvas, not an official minimum.

Should a LinkedIn ad use 1080 × 1080 or 1200 × 1200?

Use 1200 × 1200 pixels for a single-image square ad. The 1080 × 1080 recommendation applies to a practical organic square post.

Can LinkedIn resize my photo after I publish it?

No. LinkedIn’s organic-post guidance says uploaded photos cannot be resized after posting, so select the final dimensions before publishing.

What format is best for a LinkedIn image?

LinkedIn accepts PNG and JPEG. Its Page guidance recommends a high-resolution JPEG for best image resolution, while PNG remains useful for sharp graphics or transparency.
