Best No-Logs VPNs in 2026: Compare the Evidence, Not the Claims

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There is no evidence here to name one no-logs VPN the best overall choice. The strongest useful comparison is how recent and inspectable each provider’s independent review is, what it examined, and what its findings actually establish. Proton VPN has a detailed 2025 report authored by its auditor; DuckDuckGo publishes a summary of a 2025–26 audit; and NordVPN says it completed a sixth review in 2025, though reporting says the full report is available to subscribers. Those are dated snapshots, not guarantees about future configurations or a complete ranking of the VPN market.

What “no logs” means—and what it does not

A VPN provider carries your VPN connection, so it is technically capable of recording information about it. Proton VPN states this plainly in its audit explainer. A no-logs policy is therefore a provider commitment that needs evidence; the wording of the policy alone does not demonstrate how the service operates.

A well-evidenced policy can reduce what a VPN provider retains, but it does not make you anonymous. You still have to trust the operator with your connection, and it may hold account information. A VPN also cannot erase other ways a person or device can be identified. The AuditedVPN comparison discusses this distinction, but it is secondary context rather than a substitute for a provider’s audit report.

How to compare no-logs VPN evidence

  • Date and repetition: Check when the latest no-logs-specific review took place. Repeated reviews provide a continuing record, but each covers a particular period and configuration.
  • Auditor and access: Identify who conducted the review and whether you can read the report itself or only a provider’s summary. Restricted access makes it harder for readers to assess the details.
  • Scope: Look for examination of live infrastructure, system configuration, operational procedures, and the handling of both activity information and connection metadata. A review of policy text alone answers less.
  • Specific data and systems: Check whether the review addresses matters such as DNS queries, session timestamps, source IPs, traffic inspection, and server configuration—and which systems were actually in scope.
  • Limits: An audit reports on what was examined at a particular time. It does not certify later changes to systems, procedures, or configuration.

What the dated reviews establish

Provider Review and scope described Access and qualification
Proton VPN Securitum’s report says its on-site review took place August 18–20, 2025, and examined production systems, procedures, and architecture. It reports no user activity logging, connection metadata storage, or traffic inspection that contradicted the policy in the setup reviewed. The report is authored by Securitum, the auditor, and is publicly available. Its conclusion applies to the service as configured during that review, not to all future states. Read the 2025 report.
DuckDuckGo VPN DuckDuckGo says Securitum examined its VPN and supporting infrastructure between October 2025 and January 2026, including source code and live systems. Its summary reports no user activity or user-attributable connection metadata logging. It also lists no user-attributable DNS metadata, consistent policy across server regions, and configuration-change controls. These details are represented on DuckDuckGo’s audit page, which links a report. Treat the page as the provider’s summary and consult the report for the underlying work. Read DuckDuckGo’s audit page.
NordVPN NordVPN says Deloitte conducted its sixth review in 2025. TechRadar reports the work included interviews, configuration review, and live-system inspection from November 10 to December 12, 2025, and examined multiple server types and operational controls. NordVPN lists its audit history on its no-logs page. TechRadar reports that the full report is available to subscribers through Nord Account, so readers may not be able to inspect it without an account. Read TechRadar’s report.

Which one should you choose?

Choose based on the evidence you can inspect and your practical requirements—not audit count alone. Of these examples, Proton VPN’s 2025 report is directly authored by the auditor and publicly available; DuckDuckGo’s page gives a detailed provider-published account of a review that extended into 2026; and NordVPN’s reported sixth review has a subscriber-accessible full report. These differences describe the evidence presented here, not a universal ranking of the services.

The evidence reviewed for this comparison does not independently establish current prices, platform compatibility, speed, streaming performance, device limits, jurisdiction, or ownership. Those factors can matter as much as audit transparency for a purchase decision, and they need current product information or independent testing. This evidence also does not establish an exhaustive survey of VPN providers, or support an audit-count league table or a single overall winner.

What an audit can—and cannot—tell you

Securitum’s conclusion in the Proton VPN report says the technical evidence reviewed showed no activity logging, connection metadata storage, or traffic inspection that contradicted the policy. It also says the service, as configured at the time of the audit, complied with the policy’s privacy commitments. Those findings are useful precisely because they name the evidence and the configuration reviewed; they are not a promise that every future version will remain unchanged.

Proton’s provider-authored explainer also says its policy has been tested in over 400 legal cases and that it could not provide logs because they did not exist. That is Proton’s reported figure, not an independently enumerated count in Securitum’s 2025 audit report, so it should be understood as a separate provider claim rather than an audit finding.
