To collect email signups on a Shopify landing page, install Shopify Forms, create an inline form, choose whether Forms should make a new landing page or place the form on an existing page template, then activate the form and enable the Forms theme app embed. Decide how marketing consent should work before publishing, and test the signup and its confirmation behavior on your storefront.
Choose where the signup form should appear
Shopify Forms supports two ways to place an inline signup form: create a dedicated landing page from the Forms app, or add the form to a template used by an existing page. Choose the first when you want a page built around a particular offer or campaign. Choose the second when the form belongs within a page you already use, such as a campaign page or another landing page.
Shopify Forms is a separate app: Shopify says it is free to install and use, and it does not come installed automatically with a Shopify plan. Install it from the Shopify App Store before following the setup steps.
Create and configure an inline form
- In Shopify admin, open Apps > Forms.
- Choose Create form, then select Inline form.
- Configure the fields you want to collect, the marketing consent behavior, and what happens after submission. Set the form’s styling, and add any desired customer tags or workflow connections.
- Save the form. It starts inactive, so saving alone does not publish it.
Keep the form focused on information you actually need. Email is required to capture email marketing consent. If you request other details, make sure the form still fits the offer and the page’s purpose.

Choose the post-submission experience
Shopify Forms lets you show a success message or redirect the subscriber after submission. Use a message when the visitor should remain on the page and receive a simple confirmation. Use a redirect when the next step is part of the offer, such as viewing a resource or continuing to a campaign destination. Preview the result and make sure the message or destination matches what the signup promised.
Option 1: Create a dedicated landing page
- In the form’s Placement section, choose Create landing page.
- Enter the page title and URL handle, then save.
- Preview the generated page and edit its title, content, or handle as needed.
- Activate the form and enable the Forms theme app embed, as described below.
This route creates a new page using a new page template. It is not simply a form inserted into a page that already exists. The title, content, and handle can be edited later. This is useful when a campaign needs its own URL and page, but it also means you should check the generated page’s content and storefront presentation rather than assuming it is ready to publish unchanged.
Option 2: Embed the form in an existing page template
- In the form’s Placement section, choose Existing page.
- Copy the form’s six-digit ID.
- Open the theme editor and select the page template used by the intended page.
- Add the Forms block to that template, enter the six-digit ID, and save.
- Activate the form and ensure the Forms theme app embed is enabled.
The block is attached to a template, so the form appears on pages that use that template. Before saving, verify that you selected the intended template: if several pages share it, the block can affect all of them. If the form should appear on only one page, check whether that page has a dedicated template or decide whether a shared placement is appropriate.

Activate the form and enable the theme app embed
Two conditions matter for storefront display: the form must be active, and the Forms theme app embed must be installed and enabled. Shopify Forms saves new forms as inactive by default. After placing the form, preview it, turn it on, and confirm the embed is enabled in the theme. If the form is configured correctly but does not appear, check both conditions before rebuilding it.

Shopify Forms offers three consent behaviors: subscribe on submission, subscribe only when a visitor checks a consent box, or do not subscribe customers to marketing. Shopify’s guidance is that promotional content should be sent only to customers who agreed to receive it. Choose a behavior that matches the wording on the form and the rules applicable to your store and customers.
- Subscribe on submission: The form treats submission as the action that subscribes the customer. Use this only when the form and applicable requirements make that choice appropriate.
- Subscribe only if a consent box is checked: The visitor explicitly opts in by checking the box. Make the box and accompanying explanation clear.
- Do not subscribe customers: Collect the email for the form’s stated purpose without subscribing the customer to marketing through this setting.
You can include a consent disclaimer explaining how the data will be used. Shopify’s contact-information guidance notes that double opt-in may be relevant, including for some Germany-based store setups. Requirements vary by jurisdiction and store configuration; Shopify’s guidance is not a complete legal analysis. Review the rules that apply to your business and audience rather than treating a particular setting as legal advice.

There is also a customer-record caveat: Shopify says that if an existing customer submits a Forms form using a different email address or phone number, the saved contact details are not modified. Other fields, such as marketing consent, might not be updated either. Do not assume a new submission will replace an existing customer’s contact information or reset their consent status.
Use a theme-native newsletter signup instead
If you do not need a Forms-specific placement, a theme’s own newsletter signup can be a simpler alternative. Shopify says Online Store 2.0 and Horizon themes have a newsletter signup section or a footer signup option. The available controls depend on the theme. Check its documentation if you are using a third-party theme or cannot find a newsletter section.

|---|---|---|
| Placement | Can create a dedicated landing page or add a Forms block to an existing page template. | Uses the newsletter section or footer option provided by a supported theme. |
| Form controls and consent | Provides configurable fields, consent behavior, success message or redirect, styling, and optional tags or workflow connections. | Controls depend on the theme; the cited Shopify guidance establishes the newsletter signup option, not equivalent Forms-specific controls. |
| Theme setup | Requires the Forms app and, for display, the Forms theme app embed; an existing-page placement also uses a Forms block and form ID. | Depends on whether the theme includes the section or footer signup. |
| Follow-up needs | Can support analytics, customer tagging, segments, discounts, and automations. | Follow-up capabilities depend on the store’s connected email tools and theme setup. |
Shopify’s documentation establishes these feature differences; it does not provide a performance comparison between Forms and theme-native signup sections. Choose based on the placement and controls you need, not an assumed conversion or speed advantage.

Check the signup and plan what happens next
Before sharing the page, visit it on the storefront and complete a test submission. Confirm that the form displays, the fields behave as intended, the consent choice is presented clearly, and the success message or redirect works. Also check that the form is active and the theme app embed remains enabled in the published theme.
After signup, Shopify Forms can support analytics, customer tagging, segments, discounts, and automations. Shopify Messaging can send email campaigns and automations to subscribers. Shopify Flow offers templates for processing Forms submissions, including sending marketing emails after a submission creates a metaobject. These are follow-up options; they do not replace the need to configure the form’s consent behavior correctly.

- The form is missing from the storefront: Confirm that the form is active and the Forms theme app embed is enabled. For an existing page, check that you added the Forms block to the template the page actually uses.
- The block does not show the intended form: Recheck the six-digit form ID entered in the block, then save and preview the correct template.
- The form appears on unexpected pages: The Forms block is attached to a template. Check which pages use that template and move the form to a more specific template if it should not be shared.
- The page created from Forms needs changes: A dedicated placement generates a new page with a new template. Edit the page title, content, or URL handle as needed and preview the result.
- A returning customer’s details or consent appear unchanged: Shopify says a submission with a different email or phone does not modify the existing saved contact details, and other fields such as consent might not update. Do not treat a repeat submission as an update to the customer record.
- You cannot find a newsletter signup control: Check whether the theme provides a newsletter section or footer option. Shopify identifies these options for Online Store 2.0 and Horizon themes; third-party theme behavior should be checked in the theme’s own documentation.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API, not an email signup tool. It can help capture a visual preview of a published Shopify page for review, but it does not create or collect email subscriptions. For example, this cURL request captures a page screenshot:
