To save a webpage as a PDF on Windows 10, open it in Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl+P, inspect the print preview, choose a PDF destination if one is offered, and save the file. Firefox is another option: its print preview includes a Save to PDF destination. If the browser does not offer a PDF destination, you can try Microsoft Print to PDF in the Windows system print dialog.
Convert a webpage to PDF in Microsoft Edge
For a one-off conversion, Edge’s print workflow is the direct built-in route. It turns the page as presented for printing into a PDF; it does not promise to preserve every interactive feature or reproduce the screen pixel for pixel. Check the preview before saving, especially on long pages or when backgrounds and page breaks matter.
- Open the page. Navigate to the webpage or web-app document you want to save in Microsoft Edge.
- Open Print. Press Ctrl+P, choose Print from Edge’s menu, or right-click the page and choose Print. The print dialog and available destination wording can vary with the print options available on your Windows setup.
- Review the preview. Look for missing content, awkward page breaks, clipped columns, or an unexpectedly large number of pages. Do not save until the pages contain the material you need.
- Adjust settings if needed. Edge’s print controls include scale options such as fitting content to the printable area, actual size, and custom scaling. You can also adjust headers and footers and background graphics. The exact effect depends on the page’s layout.
- Select a PDF destination and save. Choose a PDF destination if one is offered, then follow the dialog prompts to choose a folder and filename. Reopen the saved file to verify it.
Print only selected content
If you need only part of a page, select the relevant text or images first, then use the page’s right-click context menu and choose Print, where that option is available. Check the preview to confirm that the selection—not the whole page or an incomplete fragment—is included.
When the page looks different in the preview
Try the Background graphics setting if colors, shaded sections, or other background elements are missing. Edge’s print guidance notes that enabling background graphics can help when the preview or output differs from the page. It can also use more ink on a physical print, though that is not a concern for a PDF itself.

For a narrower, less cluttered printout, Edge’s support guidance describes Immersive Reader as a way to remove surrounding material such as ads and site navigation. It is available only on some websites, so treat it as an optional workaround rather than a universal page-cleanup control. Compare its preview with the original page before saving.
Save a webpage as PDF in Firefox
Firefox provides a separate browser workflow. Open the webpage’s print workflow, inspect the print preview, choose Save to PDF from the destination drop-down, and save the file. Mozilla documents this destination in its print-preview instructions.
- Open the webpage in Firefox and open its print workflow.
- Inspect the preview, including page breaks and the content on each page.
- Choose Save to PDF in the destination drop-down.
- Choose where to save the file and give it a useful name.
- Open the resulting PDF and check that the pages and required content are present.
There is no controlled comparison here establishing that Edge or Firefox produces faster, more faithful, or higher-quality PDFs for every site. The practical choice is the browser whose preview contains the content and layout you need.

Use Microsoft Print to PDF if a browser PDF destination is missing
Windows’ Microsoft Print to PDF may serve as a fallback through the system print dialog. A Microsoft Q&A community answer posted January 12, 2021 describes selecting that printer in the Windows print dialog, then choosing a filename and location. That is community support guidance, not a promise that every current Edge screen will show the same controls.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Open the browser’s print workflow and, if available, switch to the system print dialog.
- Choose Microsoft Print to PDF as the printer.
- Start printing, then choose the destination folder and filename when prompted.
- Open the file to confirm it is a PDF and that the pages look right.
If the printer is not listed, do not assume that a browser update alone will make it appear. Try the browser’s own PDF destination first, or use another browser’s documented Save to PDF workflow. The cited community answer establishes this as a possible Windows fallback, not a full diagnosis for every missing-printer case.
Choose settings by the result you need
| Need | What to check | Trade-off or limit |
|---|---|---|
| Keep a page’s background colors or graphics | In Edge, inspect the preview and try enabling Background graphics. | Some site elements may still be omitted or laid out differently for printing. |
| Make a wide page fit | Try Edge’s fit-to-printable-area scale option, then inspect the text size and page breaks. | Scaling down can make text harder to read. |
| Keep content near its displayed size | Try actual size or a custom scale in Edge and review the preview. | Content can run off the printable area or span more pages. |
| Remove page navigation or ads | Try Immersive Reader in Edge if the site supports it, then print its result. | Availability depends on the website; check that useful material was not removed. |
| Save only a passage | Select the content and use the context-menu print option where available. | Confirm the selection is complete in the preview. |
Print previews are more useful than guessing a scale value: they show whether the chosen settings have clipped text, changed pagination, or dropped visual material before you create the final file.

Troubleshoot a failed or poor-looking PDF
Edge’s print preview does not open
Microsoft’s Edge print troubleshooting guidance recommends retrying the print action and restarting Edge. If the preview still fails, check whether the built-in PDF viewer is missing in the failure scenario described by Microsoft. Restarting is a first step, not a guarantee that it will resolve every cause.
The saved PDF is missing colors or backgrounds
Return to Edge’s print settings and try Background graphics, then inspect the preview again. If the element is still absent, the page may not expose it in its print layout; the available evidence does not establish a setting that can force every website element into a PDF.

Text is clipped or too small
Try fitting the content to the printable area or adjusting the custom scale. A smaller scale may keep a wide layout on the page but reduce readability, so compare the preview and the saved PDF at a comfortable zoom.

Page breaks split a section awkwardly
Inspect the preview before saving and try a different scale. Long pages and complex layouts may paginate differently from their on-screen appearance. Check the saved document, not just the first preview page, before relying on it.
The browser offers no PDF destination
Try Firefox’s Save to PDF destination. If you prefer Edge, try opening the system print dialog and selecting Microsoft Print to PDF if it is available. The latter is described in a Microsoft Q&A community answer from January 12, 2021, so its screen-by-screen steps should be treated as a fallback rather than current formal Edge documentation.

If your goal is to capture a public webpage programmatically, ScreenshotNeo offers a website screenshot API that can return a screenshot or PDF. This is an alternative to manually printing a page in a browser, not a replacement for checking a document’s print layout when precise pagination is important. The example below saves the default image capture; use the PDF option described in the ScreenshotNeo documentation when you need a PDF.

When browser printing is the right fit
For an occasional webpage, browser printing is usually the simplest route: it needs no code, and the preview lets you adjust scale, headers and footers, and backgrounds before saving. Use the system print fallback only if the browser does not provide a PDF destination and Windows lists Microsoft Print to PDF.
For an important or long document, inspect every page after saving. Neither a browser preview nor a PDF destination guarantees that a site’s interactive content, print styling, or dynamically loaded material will appear exactly as it did on screen. If you need a repeatable automated capture, use an API or browser automation workflow appropriate to the job, then verify the generated output rather than assuming the file is complete.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this also work for a local HTML file?
The documented steps here describe printing a webpage open in a browser. They do not establish a separate Windows workflow for local HTML files.
Can I save an entire long webpage in one PDF?
You can print a long page through the browser, but the result is paginated. Inspect the full preview and saved file to check page breaks and omitted content.
Will the PDF preserve links and interactive controls?
The cited browser support guidance explains print and save workflows, but does not guarantee preservation of every link or interactive element. Check the PDF for the specific content you need.
