Short answer: GoFullPage cannot be labeled simply “safe” or “unsafe.” The developer says ordinary captures are stored in browser-local HTML5 filesystem and IndexedDB storage, and the Chrome Web Store disclosure says it does not collect or use user data. However, iframe capture can require broad website-access permissions that are technically capable of reading, requesting, or modifying page data. Those statements are disclosures, not an independent audit of every installed version.
What the available evidence actually shows
Three different evidence layers matter when judging a browser extension:
- Google’s permission explanation: a warning about access to all websites describes what an extension may be technically able to do. Google says the warning itself does not prove an extension is dangerous, but access can include sensitive pages.
- GoFullPage’s own statements: its FAQ says basic use needs no special permissions, optional permissions are requested when required, and screenshots remain in browser-local storage. Its Chrome Web Store disclosure says it does not collect or use user data.
- What is not established: there is no independent code review, penetration test, or published traffic inspection for a specific GoFullPage build in the material available here. Local-storage and no-collection claims therefore should be treated as developer disclosures rather than verified guarantees.
That distinction is important: a permission prompt describes potential capability, while the developer’s explanation describes intended operation.
Why GoFullPage asks for broad permissions
Basic full-page captures
GoFullPage says installation and basic usage do not require special permissions. For a normal page without embedded frames, the extension can generally be invoked on the current tab and capture the page by scrolling and adjusting CSS.

Downloads permission
The FAQ identifies the Downloads permission as supporting download controls and automatic downloads. If you do not need those controls, you can decline or revoke the permission. GoFullPage says it can request permission again when a feature requires it.
Iframe and frameset capture
Capturing content inside an iframe or frameset is the case that produces the most concerning-looking prompt. In a September 2025 explanation, the developer said this feature can require tabs, webNavigation, and <all_urls>. Scrolling and capturing embedded content may require visibility into pages beyond the top-level document.
The technical scope is broad: Google’s guidance says website access can allow an extension to read, request, or modify data from pages you visit, including sensitive information. GoFullPage says the extension runs on the current tab after you activate it, rather than continuously across every page. If access is denied, the developer says it will not run on that page but can still work on pages without iframes.
How to decide on the prompt
- Read the exact permission text Chrome displays, rather than relying on the extension’s name.
- Ask whether you actually need iframe or frameset capture, automatic downloading, or another feature tied to the request.
- Grant access only for that use. If the feature is not worth broad website access, cancel the prompt and capture pages without embedded content.
- Review and revoke permissions later from Chrome’s Extensions page or the extension’s options, then grant them again only when needed.
Does GoFullPage upload screenshots?
GoFullPage’s FAQ says screenshots are stored with the browser’s HTML5 filesystem and IndexedDB. It describes that storage as sandboxed, accessible to the extension, and located on your computer rather than on the developer’s servers. The Chrome Web Store listing also displays the developer’s declaration that it does not collect or use user data, sell data to third parties, or use or transfer it for unrelated purposes or creditworthiness or lending.

Those are useful privacy commitments, but they do not amount to a network-level test. A careful conclusion is: the developer says captures stay in local browser storage; the claim has not been independently verified here for a particular installed version. If you handle confidential material, use your organization’s browser policy, test with non-sensitive pages first, and avoid assuming that a disclosure rules out every possible vulnerability or future change.
What the Chrome warning means for sensitive pages
A broad warning is relevant even when the developer describes a limited trigger. A permission that can reach all URLs could theoretically encounter email, banking, health, customer, or internal-company data on pages you open. The warning is therefore a risk boundary, not a verdict about intent.
- Use a separate browser profile for work or regulated accounts if your policy permits extensions only in isolated profiles.
- Do not activate the extension on password-reset, payment, medical, administration, or confidential customer pages unless your security team has approved that workflow.
- Keep Chrome and the extension updated, and remove the extension if you no longer need it.
- For a high-assurance environment, ask your security team to inspect the installed package and monitor its network behavior; a store disclosure alone cannot provide that assurance.
How to verify your own installation
You can make the decision more concrete without treating a personal check as a formal audit.
- Open chrome://extensions, select GoFullPage, and inspect its site-access setting and requested permissions.
- Set site access to the narrowest option that still supports your workflow, where Chrome offers that choice.
- Capture a harmless test page and confirm where the resulting file is saved and which permissions Chrome requests.
- Use Chrome’s extension details and your organization’s endpoint or browser logs to review unexpected changes after updates.
- Recheck the Chrome Web Store listing, privacy disclosure, and version number before deploying it widely; store fields can change.
Recent store interruption and version context
GoFullPage said its August 11, 2026 removal from the Chrome Web Store was related to a copyright issue and stated: “This was not a security issue with GoFullPage.” That is the developer’s characterization, not an independent finding from Google or a security investigator. The listing observed on September 25, 2026 showed version 8.9. Availability, version, and disclosure fields can change, so verify them at installation time.

Troubleshooting permission and privacy concerns
Chrome refuses to run the extension
Cause: the required site or iframe permission was denied. Fix: open the extension’s details, review site access, and grant the specific permission only if the page requires it. GoFullPage says it can work on pages without iframes when access is denied.
The capture misses embedded content
Cause: iframe or frameset content needs additional access and scrolling support. Fix: decide whether that content is necessary, then enable the requested permission in a dedicated profile or use another capture method.
A download does not start
Cause: the Downloads permission or Chrome’s automatic-download setting is unavailable. Fix: enable the permission only when you need download controls, or save the capture through the browser’s normal dialog.
You need proof that data never leaves the device
Cause: a store disclosure cannot provide independent verification. Fix: have your security team inspect the exact extension package and observe network traffic in a controlled test; otherwise, do not use it for sensitive material.

Cause: store metadata and availability are mutable. Fix: recheck the publisher disclosure, requested permissions, version, and update date immediately before deployment.
