On most Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets running One UI 8.5, press and release the Side/Power button and Volume Down button together. The screen briefly flashes when the capture succeeds. Open Gallery → Albums → Screenshots to view, edit or share the image.
These are Samsung’s general Galaxy instructions, not a newly documented One UI 8.5 feature. Samsung’s menus and supported methods can vary by model, carrier and software version.
Take a screenshot with the buttons
- Open the app or page you want to capture.
- Press the Side/Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time.
- Release both buttons immediately. A brief screen flash indicates that Samsung captured the screen.
- Tap the screenshot preview if you want to edit or share it, or open Gallery → Albums → Screenshots later.
The buttons’ physical positions differ between Galaxy models. Use a short, simultaneous press rather than holding them down. Samsung UK warns that holding the combination too long can open the power menu on some devices. See Samsung’s US guide at Samsung Support and its UK instructions at Samsung UK Support.
What One UI 8.5 changes—and what it does not establish
Samsung’s update notice for Galaxy S25 build S931BXXU9CZDP identifies Android version B (Android 16), One UI 8.5 and an 11 May 2026 release date. It does not document a change to the screenshot key combination, Gallery location or screenshot controls. Therefore, use the standard Galaxy procedure above while allowing for model-specific menus. The update notice is available at Samsung Mobile’s notification page.

A Galaxy phone or tablet that receives One UI 8.5 may still show different labels or omit optional tools. Carrier firmware, hardware design and regional software can all affect what appears in Settings.
Alternative ways to capture the screen
The button method requires no setup. Samsung also documents several alternatives; their availability depends on your device and configuration.
| Method | How to enable or use it | Best fit and limitations |
|---|---|---|
| Palm swipe | Open Settings → Advanced features → Palm swipe to capture. On some versions the setting is under Settings → Advanced features → Motions and gestures → Palm swipe to capture. Swipe the edge of your hand across the display. | Convenient when pressing buttons is awkward. The gesture must be supported and enabled. |
| Voice assistant | Say “Hey Bixby, take a screenshot” or “Hey Google, take a screenshot.” | Useful when you cannot reach the buttons. The relevant assistant must be installed, enabled and configured. |
| S Pen Screen write | On a compatible S Pen device, open Air command and tap Screen write. Annotate the capture, then save it to Gallery. | Adds immediate markup. It is device-dependent and requires an S Pen-compatible Galaxy model. |
| Tasks Edge panel | Open the Edge panel, add or select Take screenshot in the Tasks panel, then tap it. | Provides an on-screen shortcut. The task may not be present until you add it. |
Samsung lists these options in its Galaxy screenshot guide. The exact wording of Settings can differ between US, UK and other regional firmware.

Capture a long webpage or document with Scroll capture
Use Scroll capture when the information extends below the visible screen, such as a long webpage, message thread or document.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Position the screen at the beginning of the content and take a normal screenshot.
- When the screenshot toolbar appears, tap Scroll capture. Samsung depicts the control as two arrows pointing downward.
- Continue tapping the control until the required portion is included, then save or share the resulting image.
Scroll capture appears only when Samsung detects content that can be extended by scrolling; it may not be offered for every app or screen. Samsung’s regional guidance describes it as a tool for lengthy, scrollable content, not a universal full-screen capture. See Samsung Malaysia’s instructions for the documented behavior.
Find, edit and share your screenshots
Locate the files
Open Gallery, tap Albums, and choose Screenshots. Samsung places ordinary button, gesture and assistant captures in this album. If you use a file manager or a third-party gallery, its categories may be named differently.

Keep long captures manageable
A Scroll capture can be considerably taller than a normal image. Crop it to the relevant section before sharing when a recipient or app imposes image-size limits.

Why a Samsung screenshot may fail
The power menu opens instead
You probably held the two buttons too long. Press and release Side/Power and Volume Down together briefly. Samsung UK specifically notes this behavior on some models.

No screenshot preview or album item appears
- Repeat the capture with a precise simultaneous press and watch for the screen flash.
- Open Gallery → Albums → Screenshots rather than relying on the temporary preview.
- Try Palm swipe only if your Settings app provides that feature and it is enabled.
- Restart the phone or tablet if the Gallery app is not updating; then test again.
The “Scroll capture” control is missing
The current screen may not contain scrollable content, or that app may not expose a scrollable region to Samsung’s capture tool. Try a long webpage or document and take the first screenshot while the content is positioned near its top. Do not expect the control on every screen.
An app reports a security restriction
Samsung states: “Some apps or screens may block screenshots for privacy or security reasons.” Samsung UK gives the example message “Can’t take screenshot due to security measure.” Banking apps, protected media, work profiles and Secure Folder can impose such restrictions. There is no supported general switch for overriding an app’s protection; use the app’s own export or sharing function if it provides one.
The option or menu is not present
Availability can differ by Galaxy model, carrier and software version. Check both Settings paths shown for Palm swipe, and confirm that an S Pen or assistant is supported and configured before troubleshooting further. Google also documents Android’s general screenshot behavior at Android Help, but Samsung’s device-specific controls take precedence on Galaxy hardware.

- Need an on-screen shortcut: add Take screenshot to Tasks Edge.
- Need content below the fold: take a regular capture and select Scroll capture when Samsung presents it.

Or skip the browser setup: ScreenshotNeo for website captures
If your goal is to capture a public webpage for documentation, testing or an automated workflow—not the live display of your Galaxy phone—ScreenshotNeo provides a one-request website screenshot API. Its clean-shot process accepts cookie and consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each step can be disabled. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.
ScreenshotNeo also offers an MCP server for AI agents such as Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients, with take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools. It supports full-page and element captures, dark mode, device presets, custom viewports, retina scale, PDF settings, custom CSS and JavaScript, click and wait actions, blocked resources, headers, cookies, user agents, authorization, timezone, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, configurable caching, signed links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API and an OpenAPI specification. Common parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work.
One-call examples
Read the complete parameter reference in the ScreenshotNeo documentation. Replace YOUR_API_KEY and the target URL as needed.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots; every feature is available on every plan, and yearly billing provides two months free. For automated webpage captures, sign up for ScreenshotNeo’s free plan.
Frequently asked questions
Is One UI 8.5 required for the button shortcut?
No. Samsung documents the Side/Power-plus-Volume-Down shortcut as general Galaxy guidance. One UI 8.5’s published update notice does not claim to introduce it.
Can I use ScreenshotNeo to capture what is currently displayed on my phone?
No. ScreenshotNeo captures webpages from its API or MCP tools. Use the Galaxy controls in this guide for the live screen of a Samsung phone or tablet.
The Bottom Line
For a Samsung Galaxy device on One UI 8.5, press and release Side/Power and Volume Down together, then find the image in Gallery’s Screenshots album. Use Scroll capture for eligible long pages, and switch to Palm swipe, voice, S Pen or Tasks Edge only when your model supports and provides those options.
