Prime Video Error 1055 on a Fire TV Stick is a playback-availability symptom, not a confirmed diagnosis that the device is broken. Amazon’s current public playback help does not give 1055 a dedicated definition. Reports associate it with “Video unavailable” and sometimes 5505/1055; app or account authorization, title availability, network trouble, and location settings are all possible causes. Work through the checks below before considering a factory reset.
What does Prime Video Error 1055 mean?
Error 1055 is reported by Prime Video users on Fire TV devices, sometimes as 5505/1055 or alongside a “Video unavailable” message. Amazon’s current playback help and error-code list does not define 1055 specifically. A secondary troubleshooting guide groups 5505/1055 with video or application-unavailable errors, but that is not an official Amazon definition: Support.com’s Fire TV troubleshooting guide.
In practice, treat 1055 as a sign that Prime Video cannot make the selected video available on that device at that moment. App state, account registration, title rights, location configuration, connectivity, or a temporary service problem may be involved. The code alone does not prove a particular cause or a hardware fault.
First identify what is failing
Before changing settings, run a few quick tests. Try another Prime Video title, open another streaming app on the Fire Stick, and try the same Prime Video title on a phone or computer signed in to the same account. Note whether the message appears before playback, after selecting a title, or during playback.

| What you observe | Likely area to investigate | Start here |
|---|---|---|
| Only one title fails | Title availability, rental or purchase entitlement, subscription status, or a title-specific issue | Try another title and check that the account has access to the affected one. |
| Every Prime Video title fails, but other apps work | Prime Video app state, account registration, location settings, or Prime Video service | Restart the Fire Stick, then check the app and account. |
| Prime Video works on another device but not this Fire Stick | Fire Stick app, software, registration, or device-specific network/location configuration | Update the Fire Stick and reset Prime Video app state. |
| Prime Video fails on several devices | Account, subscription, title rights, or Amazon-side service issue | Check account access and test again later; do not assume an outage without current evidence. |
| Other streaming apps fail too | Wi-Fi, router, Fire Stick connectivity, or power | Check the network and restart the router. |
These tests narrow the possibilities but are not conclusive: different devices can use different playback components and location signals.
Fixes to try, from simplest to more disruptive
1. Close Prime Video and restart the Fire Stick
Exit Prime Video completely, reopen it, and test the title again. If that does not help, restart the device by holding Select and Play/Pause on the Fire TV remote for about five seconds, or use the restart option in Settings. Menu wording varies by Fire OS version.
You can also power-cycle it: unplug the Fire Stick from power, wait at least 60 seconds, reconnect it, and wait for the home screen before opening Prime Video. Amazon’s general playback guidance recommends closing the app and restarting the connected device.

- Check for a Prime Video update in the Fire TV app store or installed-app management screen, if an update is offered.
- Restart the Fire Stick after updates, then test playback again.
The menu labels can differ across Fire OS versions and regions. Amazon’s playback help recommends keeping both the device software and app current.

3. Clear Prime Video’s cache
- Open Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications.
- Select Prime Video, then choose Clear Cache.
- Reopen Prime Video and try the title again.
Labels and available controls can vary. Clearing cache is a low-disruption way to remove temporary app files; Amazon staff have also recommended it for some Fire TV playback errors in this Amazon Forum response.
4. Force-stop Prime Video or clear its data
If the cache step fails, return to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > Prime Video, choose Force Stop, and reopen the app. If the error remains, choose Clear Data if that option is available. Clearing data may sign you out or remove locally stored app information, so have your Amazon sign-in details ready. Amazon staff describe these steps for some playback failures in this Fire TV player troubleshooting response.

5. Check the connection and router
- Confirm the Fire Stick is connected to the expected Wi-Fi network and that another app can stream.
- Restart the router and wait for its indicator lights to stabilize before testing again.
- Pause heavy downloads or other streams temporarily.
- If practical, test Prime Video briefly using a phone hotspot. If it works there but not on home Wi-Fi, investigate the router or home network.
Amazon’s playback troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the connection and restarting the device and router. Avoid changing DNS settings unless you know how to restore the previous configuration.
6. Turn off VPNs, proxies, Smart DNS, and filtering temporarily
Disable any VPN app, router-level VPN, proxy, Smart DNS, or DNS/ad-blocking filter and test Prime Video again. These services can interfere with access or location verification. Amazon advises deactivating VPN or proxy servers for playback problems, and its Prime Video terms say availability varies by location and prohibit technologies used to obscure or disguise location. Do not use location-altering services to bypass regional restrictions.

Check account registration and location
If the problem affects every title only on the Fire Stick, confirm it is signed in to the intended Amazon account. If Prime Video will not let you sign out normally, you can deregister the device from a browser:
- Open Prime Video and go to Account & Settings > Devices.
- Find the affected Fire TV and select Deregister.
- Reopen Prime Video on the Fire Stick and register it again.
Amazon documents this remote option in its device deregistration instructions. Also check whether the same title is already playing on too many devices: Amazon says a given title can stream on no more than two devices simultaneously.
When country or location settings may matter
A location mismatch is a plausible, frequently reported explanation for 5505/1055, but Amazon does not identify it as the official meaning of the code. Investigate it if the Fire Stick was bought abroad, you recently moved or are traveling, you changed the Amazon account marketplace, or playback stopped after changing VPN or DNS settings. Older user reports, including this community discussion, describe location or marketplace concerns; such reports are anecdotal, not proof of a universal cause.

- Verify the country or region associated with the Amazon account and the marketplace used by the Fire Stick.
- Consider whether the device was imported or whether the issue began after travel or a move.
- Check whether the title is available where you are now. Prime Video catalogs vary by location.
Do not change the account country at random: it may affect content, payments, subscriptions, and other account services. Amazon’s terms on geographic availability confirm that content and service availability vary by location. If the account marketplace and your location appear inconsistent, ask Amazon support to verify the device registration and Prime Video location configuration.
When to reinstall Prime Video or factory-reset
If the Fire TV offers a normal uninstall option for Prime Video, Amazon’s general guidance includes uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Some Fire TV models integrate Prime Video and do not offer a standard uninstall; use the app data, force-stop, update, and registration steps instead.
A factory reset should be a last resort, after the network, app, account, and location checks. It removes account information and downloaded content and means signing in to apps again. It will not resolve an Amazon-side service problem, title restriction, or account-region mismatch. Amazon explains the reset consequences in its playback help.
When to contact Amazon
Contact Amazon if Prime Video still fails on the Fire Stick after restart, updates, app-data reset, and account re-registration—especially if the device is imported or the account’s marketplace may not match your location. Use Amazon’s official customer support page.
