To save a webpage as a PDF, open the browser’s print preview and choose its PDF destination. To capture the page as one tall image, use a browser’s full-page screenshot feature. To combine separate screenshots, decide whether you need one flattened image or a multipage PDF: they are different outputs, and the clearest built-in documented route here is Preview on Mac for a multipage PDF.
The steps below cover Chrome and Firefox PDF export, Firefox and Edge full-page captures, a cautious Windows approach to assembling an image, and the Mac Preview workflow for putting captures in one PDF. Use the option that matches the file you actually need.
Choose the right output before you start
A PDF and a screenshot are not interchangeable. Print-to-PDF creates a paginated document from the browser’s print layout. A screenshot records rendered pixels as an image. A full-page screenshot is typically one tall image; several screenshots placed into a PDF remain separate pages unless you flatten them into an image using an image editor.
- Need a document to share, archive, or print? Save the webpage as a PDF.
- Need the whole page as a picture? Capture a full-page screenshot.
- Have separate image files and need one image? Arrange them in an image editor and export a single image. Windows Paint is a possible route, but its exact controls vary by version.
- Need the captures together, but separate pages are acceptable? Add the files to a multipage PDF.
Neither print preview nor a screenshot guarantees a pixel-perfect record of every live webpage. The print layout can differ from the screen, and an image records only what rendered at capture time. Inspect the preview or resulting file before relying on it.

Convert a full webpage to PDF in Chrome
- Open the webpage in Chrome.
- Open the browser menu and choose Print, or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on Mac.
- In the print dialog, select Save as PDF as the destination.
- Review the preview and any relevant settings, such as page range, layout, and margins. Choose the pages and appearance you need, then save the file.
Google documents this desktop Print-to-PDF route. The page’s print styling and the available dialog options affect the result, so check the preview for cut-off content, unexpected page breaks, or a layout that differs from the live site. Print preview is the appropriate route when a paginated document is the goal—not when you need an exact image of the browser window.
Save a webpage as PDF in Firefox
- Open the webpage in Firefox and choose Print from the browser menu.
- In print preview, set Destination to Save to PDF.
- Review the preview and save the PDF.
Mozilla’s print instructions describe this destination-based workflow. As with Chrome, inspect the pages before saving if page breaks, margins, or missing elements matter. Firefox’s support page for printing was last updated August 22, 2024; labels may change in later versions.
Capture the full page as an image
Firefox: save the whole page or only what is visible
- Open the page in Firefox.
- Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Take Screenshot. Alternatively, use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Choose Save full page for the entire page, or Save visible for the portion currently on screen.
- Download the image or copy it to the clipboard.
Mozilla documents both full-page and visible-area captures. Its Firefox screenshot help page was last updated June 15, 2026. If you need only the current viewport, do not choose the full-page option; if you need the page below the fold, the visible-area capture is not enough.

Edge: check whether full-page capture is available
Microsoft describes an Edge Screenshot feature that can capture a full webpage and let you copy or save the image. Microsoft also cautions that availability and functionality vary by device type, market, and browser version. If you do not see the feature or its full-page option, check the Edge version installed on your device or use Firefox’s documented capture path instead.
Combine screenshots into one image on Windows
Windows’ Snipping Tool can capture screen regions, windows, or the full screen. Microsoft documents the Windows+Shift+S shortcut and describes editing or saving a capture, as well as pasting a screenshot into Paint for modifications such as cropping. Together, these capabilities suggest a practical assembly route, but the exact canvas resizing and alignment steps are Paint-version dependent; do not expect identical button names on every Windows installation.
- Use Snipping Tool to capture the portions you need. Save each capture or copy it for use in Paint.
- Open Paint and create a canvas large enough to arrange the screenshots in the intended order. The exact canvas-size controls vary by Paint version.
- Place the captures on the canvas. Align their edges and check for gaps, overlaps, or duplicated strips where the screenshots meet.
- Crop any unwanted margins, then save or export the finished canvas in the image format you need.
This is a cautious workflow inferred from Microsoft’s documented capture and editing capabilities, not a version-specific, verified button-by-button recipe. Keep the original screenshot files until you have checked the combined image. If one document with multiple pages is acceptable, a multipage PDF avoids the need to line up pixels in an image editor.

Put multiple screenshots into one PDF on Mac
Preview supports a multipage document workflow. Apple’s instructions describe showing multiple image files in one window and adding files or pages to an open document from its thumbnail sidebar. To assemble captures as pages in a PDF:
- Open the PDF in Preview.
- Choose View > Thumbnails to show the page sidebar.
- Drag the image files or pages into the sidebar in the order you want.
- Check the page order and save the document.
This produces a PDF containing multiple pages; it does not flatten those pages into one long image. If you specifically need a single image file, use an image-editing workflow rather than treating a multipage PDF as a composite image.

Apple’s cited Safari guidance describes saving a webpage as a Web Archive or Page Source, and notes that some sites may prevent saving items. Those are not PDF export options. To create a PDF, use a browser print dialog with a PDF destination where available. If you need to preserve a webpage’s source or archive format instead, choose that format intentionally rather than expecting it to behave like a paginated PDF.

Or skip the browser setup
If you need a screenshot file from code rather than a manual browser capture, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Its documented parameters include the names used by other screenshot APIs, which can make switching easier. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and setup.
cURL example (replace the target URL as needed):
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python example:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js example:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
ScreenshotNeo removes cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers identify the page verdict and whether the request was billed. Its MCP server includes tools for AI agents to take screenshots, get page information, and capture PDFs. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. Visit ScreenshotNeo sign-up to start with the free plan.

The PDF does not look like the live webpage
Print-to-PDF follows print preview, not necessarily the screen layout. Reopen the preview and check page range, layout, and margins. If the exact rendered appearance matters more than selectable or paginated document structure, use a screenshot instead.
The screenshot contains only the visible area
In Firefox, choose Save full page, not Save visible. In Edge, confirm that the installed version and device expose the full-page Screenshot option; Microsoft says availability varies.
Best Value
The combined image has seams or duplicated content
When arranging separate captures, compare their edges before exporting. A missed overlap can leave a gap, while an overly large overlap can duplicate a strip of content. Reposition or crop the images in the editor, then inspect the saved result at full size.
You cannot find the same menu or control
Browser and operating-system interfaces change. The documented procedures above name the relevant menu paths and keyboard shortcuts, but Microsoft explicitly notes Edge feature variation, and Paint controls vary by version. Use the equivalent feature in your installed version rather than assuming a control is present under an identical label.
Which method should you use?
| Need | Best fit | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| A shareable, paginated webpage document | Chrome or Firefox print preview with its PDF destination | A PDF based on print layout; inspect page breaks and appearance. |
| One image of a long webpage | Firefox Save full page, or Edge Screenshot if available | A full-page image rather than a print-layout document. |
| Several captures together in one file on Mac | Preview thumbnail sidebar | A multipage PDF, not a single flattened image. |
| Several captures flattened into one image on Windows | Snipping Tool plus Paint editing | A composite image; exact assembly controls depend on Paint version. |
Frequently Asked Questions
Will a saved webpage PDF always include clickable links?
The cited browser instructions establish the PDF-saving workflow, but do not establish link behavior for every page or browser version. Check the saved PDF itself if clickable links are essential.
Can I turn a long full-page screenshot into a PDF afterward?
A screenshot is an image, so placing it in a PDF does not restore selectable webpage text or recreate the browser’s print pagination. Choose print-to-PDF first when those document qualities matter.
Does Safari’s Web Archive save a PDF copy?
No. Apple’s cited Safari guidance identifies Web Archive and Page Source formats, not PDF export.
