In Windows, press Windows+Print Screen to save both displays, or use Snipping Tool → Rectangle and drag from the outside edge of one monitor to the outside edge of the other. On macOS, press Shift-Command-3 for the whole screen or Shift-Command-4 and drag one rectangle across both displays.
A combined screenshot can be very wide, can contain a gap where the monitors are physically offset, and may be saved as separate files depending on your display arrangement. The steps below show how to get one controlled image, how to capture only one monitor, and how to fix split or incorrectly sized results.
What “one screenshot across two monitors” means
Your operating system treats multiple displays as one virtual desktop. A full-desktop capture records that desktop’s bounding rectangle. If the monitors are side by side, the result is usually a single extra-wide image. If one display is higher, lower, rotated, or has a different scale, the virtual desktop can include unused space or unusual dimensions.
A full-desktop capture is different from taking two screenshots and stitching them together. Stitching gives you manual control but can create alignment errors. A rectangle selection across the virtual desktop preserves the operating system’s coordinates and is the better choice when you need one image with exact outer boundaries.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Windows: capture both monitors in one image
Fastest method: Windows+Print Screen
- Arrange the monitors in Settings → System → Display so their on-screen positions match your physical desk.
- Press Windows+Print Screen. Windows saves a full-screen image automatically, normally in Pictures → Screenshots.
- Open the file and inspect the left, right, top, and bottom edges. A side-by-side setup will produce a wide image; that is expected.
This method is best when you want everything currently visible on every connected display and do not need to exclude the taskbar or another edge.
Clipboard method: Print Screen
- Press Print Screen (on some keyboards, PrtSc).
- Open Paint, an image editor, or a document and press Ctrl+V.
- Save the pasted image in PNG, JPEG, or another format supported by your editor.
Use this route when you want to crop, annotate, or resize before creating a file. If your keyboard has a function-layer Print Screen key, hold Fn as required by the keyboard.
Most precise method: Snipping Tool Rectangle
- Press Windows+Shift+S to open the Snipping Tool overlay.
- Choose Rectangle, not Window.
- Move the pointer to the outside corner of the first monitor’s visible desktop.
- Drag across the virtual desktop to the outside corner of the second monitor. Continue across any portion of the desktop that is above or below the other display.
- Release the pointer. Select the notification preview to annotate or save, or paste the result from the clipboard.
Rectangle mode gives you one controlled selection. Freeform, Window, and Fullscreen modes are also available, but Window mode captures an application window rather than the complete desktop. For a repeatable boundary, keep the monitors aligned in Display settings and use the same starting corner each time.
macOS: capture both displays
Capture the entire desktop
- Press Shift-Command-3.
- Open the resulting image from the location configured in Screenshot options, commonly the desktop.
- Check whether your current macOS version and display arrangement produced one combined image or separate display outputs.
Apple describes the built-in tools as capturing “the entire screen, a window or just a portion of the screen.” With two monitors, the exact file arrangement can vary, so verify the result before sharing it.
Recommended Free Tools
Select one rectangle across both monitors
- Press Shift-Command-4.
- Drag from the outside edge of one display to the outside edge of the other. Include any vertical offset between the screens if you want the complete desktop bounds.
- Release to save the selection. Open it and check for clipped edges or unintended empty space.
This is the reliable macOS option when you need one deliberate cross-monitor rectangle instead of whatever the whole-screen command returns for your arrangement.

How to capture only one monitor
Windows
Use Windows+Shift+S → Rectangle and drag only within the monitor you need. If you want an application rather than the monitor, choose Window and select that application. For a saved full display, use the monitor’s coordinates in a capture utility that supports display selection; do not assume Alt+Print Screen captures an entire monitor, because it normally captures the active window.
macOS
Press Shift-Command-4 and drag around the single display. The selection method also works for a monitor that is rotated or positioned above the primary display.
Why the result is split, extra-wide, or misaligned
Separate files instead of one file
Some multi-display arrangements cause the whole-screen command to save a file per display. Use a selected rectangle spanning both monitors, then confirm the result is one image. If the monitors are driven by different graphics paths or virtual-display software, the operating system may expose them separately; a region capture is usually the simplest workaround.
An extremely wide image
That is normal for side-by-side monitors. Do not resize before preserving the original. Save a lossless PNG master, then create a smaller JPEG or WebP copy for email or a web page.
Black bars or empty space
Empty areas occur when the display rectangles do not share the same top or bottom edge, or when one monitor has a different scaling factor. In Windows, open Settings → System → Display, select each display, and adjust the arrangement by dragging its diagram. In macOS, open System Settings → Displays and review the arrangement. A selection that follows the visible desktop can still include the virtual desktop’s gap; crop only the copy, not the original.

Automation and repeatable workflows
Windows Graphics Capture
Windows Graphics Capture lets an application acquire frames from a display or application window and save a screenshot. It is appropriate when a script or desktop tool must capture a known display repeatedly rather than rely on a human dragging a rectangle. Your implementation still needs to handle display changes, permissions, scaling, and file encoding.
OBS Display Capture
In OBS, add a Display Capture source and select the monitor. OBS is designed primarily for recording, but its display source is useful when a production workflow needs a consistent monitor target. Confirm the selected display before recording or exporting a still.

Snagit provides a capture region workflow suited to repeatable selection and annotation. It is optional: Windows and macOS already provide the shortcuts above. Choose a commercial utility when annotations, numbered callouts, or a saved region preset justify the additional installation.
Quality, privacy, and file-size checks
- Preserve a master: keep the original PNG before cropping or resizing.
- Check scaling: mixed display scaling can make text appear at different physical sizes; inspect both monitors at 100% zoom.
- Protect sensitive data: close password managers, private messages, customer records, and notifications before capturing.
- Choose format deliberately: PNG keeps interface text sharp; JPEG is smaller but can blur fine text; WebP can reduce size when your destination supports it.
- Account for retina or high-DPI displays: the pixel dimensions may be much larger than the monitors’ physical measurements. Resize a copy for documentation rather than downsampling the only original.
Or skip the browser setup
If what you actually need is a screenshot of a web page—not your physical monitors—ScreenshotNeo returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF from one GET request. It is not a replacement for a local dual-monitor capture; it automates clean website captures in a browser.
Before capture, ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets. Each step can be disabled. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for all options, including full-page lazy-image loading, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, device presets, retina scale, PDF settings, custom CSS and JavaScript, clicks, waits, blocked resources, headers, cookies, user agents, authorization, timezone, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, TTL caching, signed links, asynchronous webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, usage data, and the OpenAPI specification.

The capture includes only the active monitor
You likely used a window-specific shortcut or selected only one display. Use Windows+Print Screen, or drag Snipping Tool Rectangle across both monitors. On macOS, use Shift-Command-3 or a Shift-Command-4 rectangle that crosses the displays.
The image is too large to email
Keep the original and export a reduced copy. Resize by pixel dimensions, not by guessing a percentage, and use JPEG or WebP when text remains readable.
The cursor or menus are missing
Many built-in screenshot commands capture the desktop without a persistent pointer. Open the menu first and use a delay in a capture utility, or document the state separately. Do not assume every tool records transient menus identically.

Some applications intentionally prevent screen capture. Use the application’s own export or screenshot feature and respect access controls; changing capture software does not guarantee that protected content can be recorded.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Will a dual-monitor screenshot include the taskbar or menu bar?
It depends on the selected rectangle and your operating-system layout. A full-desktop capture includes interface elements visible within the virtual desktop; a rectangle lets you exclude them.
Can I capture monitors with different resolutions?
Yes. The result follows the virtual desktop’s pixel coordinates, so the displays may appear at different scales and the image may contain unused space.
Is stitching two monitor screenshots ever better?
Stitching is useful when you need to remove a physical gap or standardize a presentation layout. For an exact record of the desktop at one moment, a single cross-monitor capture avoids manual alignment.
