Check the finished image from top to bottom: lazy-loaded posts can be missing, replies may be mixed in, and a very long capture may be split into parts. For a single tall image that looks like the thread, choose an X-specific tool; for a screenshot of the webpage itself, use full-page capture.
Choose what “the entire thread” means
Before capturing, decide whether you want only posts by the original author or also replies from other people. A thread usually means consecutive posts by one author, but a conversation page can show replies alongside those posts. Tools that identify consecutive posts by the same author may exclude replies; a general webpage capture may include whatever the page displays. Set the boundary first, and stop at the final post you intend to share.
- For a clean, shareable thread image: Use a thread-specific capture tool that combines consecutive posts by the author.
- For a faithful picture of the browser page: Use a full-page capture extension, then review or crop interface elements such as sidebars and sticky controls.
- For reading or archiving rather than a screenshot: A reading page or plain-text extraction can be more practical, but it will not preserve the original X layout as an image.
Prepare the X page before capture
- Open the permalink for the first post in the thread on X/Twitter.
- Set the browser zoom and light or dark theme before capturing. Keep the viewport wide enough that lines remain readable without making the post column excessively wide.
- Scroll through the thread once, loading the posts, images, and other media you want in the output. Stop at the last intended post; scrolling farther may load replies or unrelated content.
- Return to the top of the intended range if your capture method starts from the current position. Follow the extension’s own capture instructions if it detects and scrolls the page itself.
X pages may load content as you scroll. Starting a capture before the intended posts and media have rendered can produce gaps or an incomplete image.
Capture the thread as one image
Option 1: Use an X-specific thread capture tool
X-specific tools aim to identify the thread and combine its posts into a tall image, rather than screenshotting every element of the surrounding webpage. XThreadShot advertises one-click full-thread capture, customization, and PNG export without requiring an account (TrueMind Labs, product page accessed 2026). Tweet Screenshot’s Chrome Web Store listing describes a thread mode that merges consecutive tweets by the same author into one tall image; it also lists PNG export, clipboard copy, anonymization, and local browser rendering (Northpine Labs LLC, 2026). These are vendor descriptions, not independent comparisons of accuracy or privacy.

After capture, verify that the first and final intended posts appear, the order is correct, author names and timestamps are present, and images or other media have rendered. If the tool includes the wrong boundary or misses a post, load the missing content and capture again.
Option 2: Use a general full-page screenshot extension
A general full-page capture extension scrolls the page and stitches it into a long result. FullPage Capture says its toolbar command detects the page’s real scroller, including inner panels, and opens a result that can be edited or exported as PNG or PDF (vendor documentation, 2026). GoFullPage describes one-click full-page capture with PNG, JPG, and PDF export (vendor product information accessed 2026).
- Start the extension’s full-page capture command on the loaded thread page.
- Allow the extension to scroll and finish stitching the page. Avoid interacting with the page during capture.
- Review the result for repeated or fixed headers, sidebars, controls, missing media, and duplicated or split content.
- Crop unnecessary browser-page elements if the editor allows it, then export the format you need.
This method captures the webpage, not necessarily a clean reconstruction of the thread. If X displays navigation, sidebars, or other page controls, they may appear in the screenshot. A general page capture can also include replies and other content that falls inside the captured area.

Pick an output format that fits the use
- PNG: A good choice when crisp text and a single tall share image matter. Inspect the image at the scale where people will read it.
- JPG: Supported by GoFullPage according to its product information; it may be suitable when smaller files matter, but inspect text and image quality after export.
- PDF: Better suited to a document-like file than to one continuous image. Check page breaks: a PDF’s pagination is not the same as a single tall screenshot.
- Text or reading page: Thread Reader App’s help page describes an “unroll” command that returns a reading page, while the xthread Edge extension extracts tweets into plain text. These can help with reading or archiving, but they are not pixel-faithful screenshots of X’s layout.
Handle long threads and split captures
A very long page may exceed the browser’s canvas limits. FullPage Capture states that a single screenshot can exceed Chrome canvas limits at 28,800 pixels per side or about 259 million pixels of area; its documentation says oversized captures are split into numbered parts (FullPage Capture, 2026). Those figures describe the vendor’s stated browser-canvas limits, not a guarantee that every browser or extension will behave identically.

Join parts only if the resulting canvas remains within browser limits. If one enormous image is not essential, use a multi-part output or PDF and check its pagination instead of forcing everything into one bitmap.
Check privacy and presentation before sharing
- Check whether the tool captures the webpage locally in the browser or sends content elsewhere; do not infer privacy practices beyond what the vendor states.
- Review anonymization settings if you need to hide identifying details, and inspect the export to confirm what was actually obscured.
- Look for usernames, replies, timestamps, and media that are outside the intended scope.
- Make sure the image remains readable when displayed at its likely sharing size. A long screenshot can be technically complete but hard to read when scaled down.
Troubleshoot common capture problems
Some posts or images are missing
Cause: The page had not loaded all content, often because it loads posts or media as you scroll. Fix: Scroll through the intended range first, wait for media to appear, then recapture. Confirm the missing item is visible on the page before starting.

Replies appear in the image, or thread posts are cut off
Cause: “Entire thread” can mean consecutive posts by the author or the whole conversation page. Fix: Decide which posts belong, use an X-specific capture mode when you want consecutive posts by the author, and check the boundaries in the output.
The screenshot contains a sidebar, header, or repeated controls
Cause: A general page capture preserves parts of the X webpage, including interface elements; fixed elements may repeat or disrupt a stitched result. Fix: Try an X-specific thread renderer for a cleaner thread image, or crop the general capture if its editor supports cropping.
The result is broken into several images
Cause: A very long capture can exceed browser canvas limits. Fix: Check that numbered parts are all present and correctly ordered. Keep them as parts if joining would exceed the canvas limits, or export to PDF and inspect the page breaks.

The PDF does not look like one long screenshot
Cause: PDF export paginates content. Fix: Use PNG when one continuous visual image is required; use PDF when a paged document is acceptable, and review its pagination before sharing.

Does a full-page screenshot include every reply?
Not necessarily. It captures the webpage content in the captured range; define whether replies belong and check the output.
Can I turn a thread screenshot into a PDF?
Some general full-page extensions offer PDF export. Expect page breaks; PDF pagination is different from one continuous tall image.
