To save a web page as a PDF, open the browser’s Print or Share workflow, select a PDF destination, check the preview and settings, then save the file. You do not need a physical printer. On desktop, use the browser’s print dialog; on a phone, use the browser’s share or print sheet. If you need a PDF generated programmatically rather than a file saved from your own browser, use a screenshot or PDF API instead.
Save a web page as a PDF on a computer
Browser print dialogs can save to a PDF file instead of sending pages to a physical printer. Before saving, review the preview: web pages may print differently from how they appear on screen.
Chrome on Windows, Linux, macOS, or Chromebook
- Open the page in Chrome and wait for the content you need to appear.
- Choose File > Print, or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on macOS.
- In the destination list, select Save as PDF or the available PDF destination.
- Set the page range, orientation, paper size, margins, scale, headers and footers, and background graphics as needed.
- Review the preview, click Save, then choose a filename and folder.
Chrome’s print dialog exposes the destination and print settings in the same workflow. The exact PDF destination label can vary with the available print options on your device.
Firefox on desktop
- Open the page, select the menu button, then choose Print.
- In Destination, choose Save to PDF.
- Adjust the page range, orientation, color mode, paper size, scale, margins, headers, footers, and backgrounds.
- If offered, select Simplified format for a cleaner article layout. Firefox does not allow Simplified format and background printing to be selected together.
- Inspect the preview, choose Print, and save the PDF.
Microsoft Edge
- Open the website and choose Settings and more > Print. You can also press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS, or right-click the page and choose Print.
- Choose a PDF destination in the print dialog and set the options you need.
- If the page is cluttered and supports it, open Immersive Reader before printing.
- To print selected content, select the text or images, right-click the selection, and choose Print.
- Check the preview and save the resulting PDF.
Save a web page as a PDF on a phone
Safari on iPhone
- Open the page in Safari and tap the Page Menu or Share button.
- Tap Markup if you want to annotate the page; annotation is optional.
- Tap Done, choose Save File To, name the file, and select a location such as Files or iCloud Drive.
- Open the Files app to confirm the PDF is there. You can share or print it later from that app.
Chrome on Android
- Open the page in Chrome and tap More > Share > Print.
- In the printer or destination list, select Save as PDF.
- Choose where to save the file, then tap Print.
Firefox on Android
Firefox offers a direct save option as well as the Android print dialog:

- Save a PDF directly: Tap the three-dot menu, choose Share > Save as PDF, then tap Download. The file is saved in Downloads.
- Use the print dialog: Open the menu and tap Print. Choose the Android Print Spooler’s Save as PDF pseudo-printer. That dialog can also set copies, color, duplex, paper size, orientation, and page range.
Choose settings that make the PDF readable
Settings that work for an ordinary article may not work for a wide table or a page with meaningful color graphics. Use the preview to decide, rather than assuming the saved file will match the on-screen layout.
- Pages: Enter a page range when you only need part of the document. This can leave out navigation, comments, or advertisements that appear elsewhere in the printout.
- Orientation: Portrait suits most articles. Try landscape for wide tables or other content that is clipped in portrait.
- Scale and margins: If columns are cut off, try reducing the scale or margins. If the text becomes too small, increase the scale or switch to a more suitable layout.
- Background graphics: Enable background printing when color blocks, charts, or images convey information. Turn it off when backgrounds are decorative and you want to avoid printing them. Edge notes that omitting backgrounds can change the output.
- Reader or simplified view: Firefox’s Simplified format and Edge’s Immersive Reader can reduce page clutter when available. They may change the page’s appearance, so check the preview before saving.
- Headers and footers: Turn these off if you do not want browser-added details in the margins, or leave them on if the printed page information is useful to you.
Why the PDF can look different from the web page
A web page is laid out for a screen that can scroll and resize; a PDF divides content into fixed paper-sized pages. The browser may reflow columns, omit background colors, move content across page breaks, or leave large spaces where screen-only elements appeared. Ads, cookie banners, sticky headers, responsive layouts, and lazy-loaded images can also affect what is included and where it lands.
Firefox cautions: “Web pages can set themselves up to appear different on paper to how they look on screen.” Treat the print preview as the best indication of the saved result, not the live page view. Scroll through the preview to look for clipped columns, unexpected blank pages, missing images, and awkward page breaks. If something looks wrong, adjust orientation, scale, margins, backgrounds, or page range and inspect again.

The PDF option is missing
Check the full destination or printer list in the print dialog; on some devices the available PDF destination may have a different label. On Android, use the system print dialog’s Save as PDF destination when offered. Firefox for Android also has a direct Share > Save as PDF path.

Content is cut off at the edge
Try landscape orientation for wide content, then reduce scale or margins. If you only need a particular section, select it and print the selection where supported, or set a page range after inspecting the preview.

Images or colors are missing
Some backgrounds are omitted unless background graphics are enabled. Enable that setting when a background carries meaning. If an image is still absent, wait for the page to finish loading and check whether it appears on screen before opening print preview.

The PDF has blank pages or strange breaks
Scroll through the entire preview before saving. Adjust scale, margins, or orientation to change pagination, and check the selected page range for unintended pages. Responsive content and sticky or other screen-focused elements may paginate differently on paper.
The saved file is hard to find
Choose a folder and filename deliberately when prompted. On iPhone, confirm it in Files; Firefox for Android saves its direct PDF download in Downloads. On other devices, use the save dialog’s selected folder as the place to check.
Frequently asked questions
Can I save just part of a web page as a PDF?
Yes, in Edge you can select text or images, right-click the selection, and choose Print. In any browser print dialog that offers page ranges, you can also save only specified PDF pages.
Does saving a web page as PDF require a printer?
No. Choose a PDF destination such as Save as PDF or Save to PDF instead of a physical printer.
