The most reliable way to convert a web page to a PDF is to open the browser’s print dialog, choose a PDF destination, inspect the preview, and save. For a cleaner result, switch to Reader View or a simplified print format first when your browser offers it. On iPhone, Safari uses Share → Markup → Done → Save File To; on Android, Chrome uses More → Share → Print → Save as PDF.
The quickest clean-PDF method
- Open the page and wait until its text, images, and embedded content finish loading.
- Open the print dialog: press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on Mac. You can also use the browser’s File or menu command for Print.
- Select a PDF destination such as Save as PDF.
- Review the preview. Check the first and last paragraphs, headings, tables, links, and important images.
- Adjust orientation, paper size, scale, margins, page range, color, and headers or footers as needed.
- Save the file, then open it in a PDF viewer to verify the result.
A print preview is essential because a web page can use a different layout for print than it uses on screen. Ads, navigation bars, cookie notices, chat bubbles, lazy-loaded images, and unusual page breaks may all change the output.

Convert a page to PDF in Chrome on a computer
Step 1: Load the complete page
Open the URL in Chrome and wait for the page to finish loading. For long pages, scroll through at least once if images appear only when they enter the viewport. If a sign-in, consent dialog, or subscription prompt covers the article, deal with it before printing.
Step 2: Open Print
Use Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, Command+P on Mac, or choose the browser’s print command. Chrome opens a preview with destination, page, layout, color, paper-size, margin, scale, and background-graphics controls when supported by the page and operating system.

Step 3: Select a PDF destination
Choose Save as PDF (or the equivalent PDF destination supplied by your operating system). Set the page range if you need only a chapter or selected pages. Portrait usually suits text articles; landscape can prevent very wide tables from being clipped.
Step 4: Tune the output
- Margins: Use the default first. Reduce them only when the preview shows excessive white space; zero margins can clip content.
- Scale: Lower it when headings or tables run off the page; raise it when text is uncomfortably small.
- Background graphics: Enable this when colored panels, diagrams, or highlighted code are important. Disable it for a smaller, ink-saving document.
- Headers and footers: Turn them off when automatic URLs, dates, or page titles distract from the document.
Step 5: Save and verify
Save the file with a descriptive name, then open it. Check internal links, page numbers, image resolution, table boundaries, and the final paragraph. A successful save does not guarantee that every element rendered correctly.
Convert and clean a page in Firefox
Use Save to PDF
- Open the Firefox menu and select Print.
- In the destination menu, select Save to PDF.
- Review orientation, pages, color, paper size, scale, margins, headers, and footers.
- Save the preview to your chosen folder.
Remove clutter with Reader View or Simplified format
If the page offers Reader View, open it before printing. Reader View can remove navigation and other distractions while retaining the article’s main text. In the print dialog, Firefox may also expose More settings → Format → Simplified. The Simplified control is conditional: it may be absent when the page does not support it or when Reader View is already active. If Simplified removes a table, image, citation, or other material you need, return to the original page and use print settings instead.
Save a webpage as a PDF on iPhone with Safari
- Open the page in Safari.
- Tap the Page Menu and then Share (the exact button placement varies with the tab layout).
- Tap Markup. You can annotate the page before saving if required.
- Tap Done, then choose Save File To.
- Choose a folder, enter a filename, and save.
Open the saved PDF from the Files app. If a banner or overlay appears in the PDF, dismiss it on the webpage first; Safari’s flow does not promise to remove every site-created element.
Save a webpage as a PDF on Android with Chrome
- Open the page in Chrome and let it finish loading.
- Tap More (the three-dot menu), then Share, then Print.
- Choose Save as PDF as the destination.
- Select a file location, set the available page and layout options, and save.
Android print options vary by device and installed print services. If Save as PDF is missing, update or enable the system print service, or use the device’s share sheet to send the page to a PDF-capable app.
How to make the PDF genuinely clean
Start with a reading view when it exists
Reader View and Firefox’s Simplified format are the least technical way to remove menus, advertising columns, and related-content blocks. They are page-dependent, so keep the original page available and compare the preview before saving.

Use the preview as a quality checklist
- The title, author information, and opening paragraph appear.
- The last paragraph is present and not cut off.
- Headings remain with the paragraphs they introduce.
- Tables fit the selected paper width and have readable text.
- Images, captions, diagrams, and code samples are present.
- Links are visible or clickable when the browser preserves them.
- No cookie banner, newsletter form, chat widget, or sticky navigation covers content.
- Page breaks do not leave a heading alone at the bottom of a page.
When the browser’s cleanup is insufficient
Some sites deliberately define print CSS that hides content, inserts promotional blocks, or changes colors. Other pages assemble content with scripts after the initial load. Try the original view instead of Simplified, wait longer, and print again. If the page still cannot produce a dependable PDF, an automated renderer gives you controls that browser print dialogs do not, such as waiting for a selector, injecting CSS, hiding selectors, clicking an element, blocking requests, or setting a user agent.

Troubleshooting failed or ugly PDFs
Ads or cookie banners still appear
Dismiss the banner before printing, switch to Reader View or Simplified format, and reopen the print preview. If the site recreates the overlay, use a capture workflow that can accept consent and hide selectors before rendering.
Images or charts are missing
Wait for lazy-loaded content, scroll through the page, and print again. Check background-graphics settings. If an image depends on a login, custom header, or script, the browser session must have that access before printing.
The PDF is blank or contains only a shell
Reload without an obstructing dialog, wait for the page to render, and verify that the content is visible before opening Print. Script-heavy pages may need a longer delay or network-idle wait in an automated renderer.
Text is tiny or cut off
Use portrait for normal articles, reduce scale only enough to fit wide content, and increase the paper size if available. For wide tables, landscape orientation is usually better than extreme shrinking.

Adjust margins, scale, and page range. A browser cannot always override the site’s print stylesheet; try Reader View, then compare the preview again.
The page requires authentication
Print while signed in. For an automated request, provide the required cookies, Authorization header, or custom headers only when you are authorized to access the page, and avoid placing secrets in a publicly shared URL.
