Short answer: In Microsoft Edge, open the webpage, press Ctrl+Shift+S (Windows) or choose Screenshot from the page’s right-click menu or the Settings and more menu. Select Capture full page or drag around an area, then choose Save or Copy. Edge’s official documentation does not promise that every version offers JPG directly. If the capture saves as PNG or another format, open it in an image editor such as Paint and export it as JPEG/JPG.
You are saving a raster image of the rendered HTML, not converting the original HTML source into an editable JPG document. The result contains what Edge displays, including layout, text, images and styling at capture time.
Save a webpage as JPG in Edge
- Load the page. Open the HTML document or webpage in Microsoft Edge and wait for visible content, images and fonts to finish loading. Scroll through interactive areas if you need them initialized.
- Open Screenshot. Press Ctrl+Shift+S, right-click the page and select Screenshot, or open Settings and more and choose Screenshot. Microsoft describes Screenshot as the renamed Web Capture feature.
- Choose the capture area. Select Capture full page for the entire scrollable document, including content below the fold, or select an area and drag around the portion you need. Edge’s feature is designed to capture long pages and can keep moving content in view while it captures.
- Save or copy. In the capture overlay, select Save to write an image file or Copy to place it on the clipboard. Check the extension and the format shown by the save dialog; do not assume the file is JPG.
- Convert when necessary. If Edge saves PNG (or another non-JPEG format), open the file in an editor that offers JPEG/JPG in its export or Save as list, such as Paint, then save a new copy with a .jpg extension. Changing only the filename extension does not convert the image.
What Edge Screenshot captures
Screenshot captures the page as rendered by the browser. That means CSS layout, rasterized text, images, video frames and the current scrollable content become pixels. It does not preserve hyperlinks, semantic HTML, scripts, selectable text or the original document structure.
- Full page: useful for long articles, documentation and receipts that extend below the visible window.
- Selected area: useful for a hero section, chart, error message or a single component.
- Markup: Microsoft says the overlay permits markup before copying or saving.
- Dynamic content: cookie notices, chat widgets, animations or lazy-loaded images may appear if they are present when capture runs.
When JPG is not offered
Microsoft’s feature description documents the capture and Save/Copy actions, but it does not guarantee a universal JPG export option across Edge versions, operating systems or device types. Treat the format shown in your own save dialog as authoritative.

Convert with Paint on Windows
- Save the Edge capture to a known folder.
- Open it in Paint (right-click the file, then choose Open with > Paint, or open Paint and use File > Open).
- Use Paint’s save or export command and select JPEG picture (*.jpg; *.jpeg) if that format appears in your version.
- Choose a new filename so the original capture remains available, then reopen the saved JPG to verify it.
The exact Paint labels can differ by Windows release. If JPEG is not listed, use another editor that explicitly supports JPEG export rather than renaming a PNG.
Fallbacks when Screenshot is unavailable
Windows Snipping Tool
For content visible on screen, open Snipping Tool and choose rectangle, window, full-screen or freeform capture. Open the resulting capture in Paint or another editor and export as JPG. Snipping Tool is a screen-based capture utility; the documented modes do not promise a scrolling, full-webpage capture. Use Edge’s full-page Screenshot for a long document whenever it is available.
Edge Print
Press Ctrl+P to open Edge’s print preview. Print is useful for creating a document, changing margins, orientation or background-graphics settings, and saving printable output. Microsoft’s print documentation does not describe a direct JPG export route, so do not use Print as your primary image-conversion method.
Edge Add-ons
Edge Add-ons listings such as PageSaver and FireShot advertise additional capture or JPG-export workflows. These are vendor descriptions, not independent performance tests. Before installing one, check its current availability, permissions, update history and the format it actually produces. An extension is not required when Edge Screenshot plus an image editor meets your needs.

Quality, privacy and edge cases
Long or lazy-loaded pages
Use full-page capture and wait for below-the-fold images to load. Infinite-scroll pages may keep adding content while Edge is capturing; if the page never settles, capture sections separately or use the page’s own export function.
Fixed headers and sticky widgets
A fixed navigation bar or chat bubble can be repeated or obscure content in a stitched capture. Hide the widget with the site’s controls when possible, or select a smaller area and capture several sections.
Animations, video and login-protected pages
A screenshot records one moment. Pause video, wait for the desired animation frame and confirm that private information is not visible before sharing. A page that requires a login remains subject to the account’s access controls; do not capture or distribute content without permission.
Print styling versus screen styling
Screenshot records screen CSS. Print preview can apply print-specific CSS, remove navigation and reflow content. Decide whether you need the visual browser version or a paper-oriented document before choosing a method.

Resolution and color
JPEG uses lossy compression. Text and sharp UI edges can show halos at low quality, while photographic pages generally tolerate it better. Keep the original lossless capture when possible and export a high-quality JPG only for systems that require JPEG.
Troubleshooting
Screenshot does not appear in the menu
Confirm that Edge is current and try the keyboard shortcut. Microsoft documents that enterprise administrators can disable the feature through the WebCaptureEnabled policy. Availability and behavior can also vary by device type, market and browser version. On a managed computer, ask the administrator whether the policy is blocking it.
The result contains only the visible viewport
Choose Capture full page, not an area selection. If full-page capture is unavailable, use several selected-area captures or Snipping Tool for individual sections.
The saved file is PNG, not JPG
That is expected in versions that do not expose JPEG export. Open the image in Paint or another editor and use its explicit JPEG/JPG export option. Never rely on renaming .png to .jpg.

Images or fonts are missing
Wait for network requests and lazy-loaded content to finish, disable aggressive tab sleeping, and recapture. If a site serves different content to logged-in users or based on location, verify those conditions before capturing.
The page is blank or blocked
Reload, check the URL and authentication, and look for consent or bot-check dialogs that require interaction. Capture only after the page visibly renders. For a site you do not control, its security controls may intentionally prevent automated or unusual access.

Is an HTML file itself converted into JPG?
No. Edge renders the HTML and captures that rendered appearance as pixels. The original HTML, CSS and links remain separate from the image.
Can I capture a PDF opened in Edge?
Microsoft documents Screenshot for web and PDF content, but the available controls and output format can vary by version. Verify the capture and export options shown on your device.

Does Edge Screenshot work on phones?
Support differs by platform and version. Microsoft’s policy documentation lists Windows and macOS support from version 87 in that policy entry and lists Android and iOS as unsupported there; check the current mobile Edge menu for your release.
Why does a JPG look worse than the original page?
JPG compression discards image information, especially around text and sharp edges. Keep a lossless original and export at a high quality when JPEG is mandatory.
