Use Edge’s built-in Screenshot tool: open the page, select Settings and more (the three dots), choose Screenshot (formerly Web Capture), select Capture full page, then save the image. For a specific region, choose the area option and drag around it. Edge confirms that it can copy or save the capture, but its documented workflow does not guarantee a PNG extension, so check the save dialog and convert the file if necessary.
Save an entire webpage as a PNG in Edge
- Open Microsoft Edge and navigate to the page you want to preserve.
- Wait for the page to finish loading. If images appear only as you scroll, scroll through the page first so lazy-loaded content has a chance to load.
- Select the Settings and more button (three dots) in the upper-right corner.
- Choose Screenshot. In older Edge releases this command is labeled Web Capture; Microsoft identifies Screenshot as the renamed feature.
- In the capture toolbar, choose Capture full page. This mode includes content below the visible browser window.
- Use the preview’s Save control. If a format selector appears, choose PNG, select a folder, name the file, and confirm.
- Open the saved file and inspect the entire image, especially the bottom of the page and areas containing embedded media or forms.
Edge’s Screenshot feature also lets you copy the result instead of saving it. Copy is useful when you need to paste the image into a document or chat, while Save is the better choice for a reusable PNG file.
Where Web Capture went in current Edge versions
Microsoft’s current interface calls the feature Screenshot; Microsoft policy documentation describes it as “previously named Web Capture.” The command can move as Edge’s menus change. If you do not see it:
- Open the three-dot Settings and more menu and use its search field for Screenshot or Web Capture.
- Right-click the page and check whether a Screenshot/Web Capture command is available in the context menu.
- Update Edge, restart it, and search the menu again. A managed work or school installation may hide commands through policy.
Microsoft does not establish one universal keyboard shortcut for every current Edge release, so use the menu or the command that your installation displays rather than relying on an old shortcut.

Capture only part of a webpage
- Open Settings and more and choose Screenshot (or Web Capture).
- Select the area-capture mode instead of Capture full page.
- Drag from one corner of the desired region to the opposite corner.
- Adjust the selection if needed, then choose Copy or Save.
Area capture is appropriate for a chart, a paragraph, or a visible component. It does not automatically collect content farther down the page.
How to ensure the file is really PNG
The Edge feature documentation confirms that a capture can be saved, but the cited Microsoft description does not promise that every release exposes a PNG format choice. Check the save dialog instead of assuming that a file named “.png” is encoded as PNG.
- PNG appears in the dialog: select it explicitly before saving.
- No format choice appears: save the image, then open it in an image editor and use Export or Save as PNG. Do not merely rename a JPEG or WebP extension.
- You need repeatable PNG exports: an Edge Add-on such as PageSaver advertises full-page captures with PNG, JPG, GIF, and ICO export. Review its permissions and publisher information before installing any extension.
PNG is lossless and is usually preferable for text, diagrams, and interface screenshots. It can create larger files than JPEG or WebP, particularly for long pages containing photographs.
Make a full-page capture reliable
Let dynamic content settle
Wait for consent dialogs, animations, ads, and client-rendered sections to finish. If a page continues changing while Edge captures it, the saved image can contain an incomplete section or a different state at the top and bottom. Close overlays only when doing so does not alter the content you intend to document.

Trigger lazy-loaded images
Many sites request images only when they approach the viewport. Slowly scroll from the top to the bottom once, pause where a section is still loading, then return to the top and capture. Verify that image-heavy sections are present in the saved file.
Check frames and scrolling interfaces
Embedded frames, nested scroll boxes, carousels, and infinite-scroll feeds may not behave like ordinary page content. A full-page command captures the document Edge can lay out; it may not expand an independently scrolling frame or an endless feed. Capture important frames separately or use the site’s own export when available.
Capture the correct state
Sign in before capturing private content, choose the required language, expand accordions, and set a stable zoom level. Avoid exposing passwords, personal messages, payment details, or tokens in a screenshot. For a legal, support, or audit record, keep the original URL and capture date with the image.
Windows fallback: Snipping Tool
Windows Snipping Tool can capture a region or the full screen and provides a Save as image action. It records what is visible on the monitor, not the complete document layout. Use it when you need a quick visible-area image, an annotation, or a screenshot of a browser dialog. For a long page that extends below the fold, Edge’s Capture full page mode is the more suitable built-in method.

Advanced option: Edge Developer Tools
Edge Developer Tools includes a command named Capture a full size screenshot. Open DevTools, open the command menu, search for that phrase, and run it. This is a separate developer workflow from the normal Screenshot menu and is useful when you already work in DevTools or need a full-size capture while inspecting page layout. Because DevTools panels and command labels can vary by release, confirm the resulting image and save format after capture.
When Edge’s capture is not enough
- Need a guaranteed API format: use a screenshot service that returns PNG directly rather than converting a browser file.
- Need repeatable automation: an API can run from a build, test, or scheduled job without an interactive browser.
- Need consent and overlay cleanup: browser captures may include cookie banners, newsletter prompts, or chat widgets unless you dismiss them manually.
- Need a PDF, device viewport, authenticated request, or bulk capture: use a tool designed for those options.

The Screenshot command is missing
Search the three-dot menu for Screenshot and Web Capture, check the page context menu, and restart or update Edge. If the browser is managed, an administrator may have disabled the feature.

Confirm that you selected Capture full page, not area capture or a Windows screen snip. Recapture after scrolling through lazy-loaded sections, and inspect whether the page uses an independently scrolling frame.

The bottom of the page is blank
Dynamic or lazy-loaded content may not have rendered before capture. Scroll through the page, wait for network activity to settle, disable only nonessential overlays, and try again. Infinite-scroll pages may require several separate captures.
The file is JPEG or WebP instead of PNG
Use the save dialog’s format selector if present. Otherwise export the saved image as PNG in an image editor or use an extension that explicitly advertises PNG export. Renaming the extension does not convert the encoding.
Text or images look different from the browser
Fonts, zoom, device scale, animations, responsive breakpoints, and blocked resources can change the result. Reset zoom, wait for fonts and images, and compare the capture at 100% zoom. For automated work, specify the viewport and wait conditions rather than relying on timing alone.
The capture contains private information
Review the image before sharing. Sign out or redact sensitive data, and avoid putting access keys in a URL that will be logged or exposed. With an API, keep credentials in environment variables or a secret manager.

It captures the page state presented to Edge. Dismiss or accept the banner first, then recapture if the banner obscures content.
